I have been hitting the banks almost everyday, between the rain and storm bands. Problem is. I have been on a skunk streak since. Few days ago, I wouldn't see a bass the whole outing, last couple of days I can see bass, but they are not interested in anything I'm throwing at them. Current is running strong, and bait fish are all over the place. You know bass aren't remotely interested in you when you can carefully balance your lure on the bass back. Unbelievable to see. Especially when the bass wiggles and shrugs the bait off.

that's wild Lou. What have you been throwing at them lately? Are they just hunkering down in the shade?

Let's see.... I have thrown centipedes, flukes, stickworms, havoc creature baits, smaller widebill cranks, and spinnerbaits. I think that's it...

Next up I'm going to have to pick up a couple of beetle spins, and very small flukes. They are keyed on something specific at the moment, but nothing I'm throwing closely resembles it.

Its been stormy here for several days, so the skies have been overcast. Most of the concentration of bass I have seen, have been around culverts, due to the current.

Took a road trip today for a short bank fishing outing in the Everglades. I haven't banked fish out in the glades in years.

Hooked into a nice fish early in the outing, but my hook broke in half!!

WTH!?

Short time later, a chunk decided to tangle with me. Lol!!

Lol... not a tree fish. I had the fish on for a fraction of a second when the line shot back at me. I thought for a moment the hook got unbuttoned, but when I went to re-rig with a new bait, I noticed the hook was broken. Doh!!

I'll be fishing tomorrow after work. Depending on how much time I have will decide if it's from the bank or the yak. pray for fish.

Well the forecast for today kind looks like Florida. Hot, steamy, chance of thunderstorms with some potentially strong wind gusts. If that holds true, I'll probably play it safe and bank fish today. I'll have to get out this weekend on the yak. We will see.

If you have the weather we have been having including the humidity. HYDRATE!! It's been brutal with heat and humidity lately. Good luck !!

Haven't been getting out much lately due to work taking up a lot more time. Couple that with summer conditions lately (90* days, high humidity) makes it not as enjoyable to go bush whacking along the bank.

However I got out the other day and had some success with a beetle spin and lipless crank.

It has been nasty here in the mid-atlantic region for a couple weeks now. And to get to less pressured bass, that means hiking through some dense underbrush. A pain when wearing pants and long sleeve shirts due to the large amount of ticks present.

So summer time will be bank fishing the high pressure ponds it appears =/

Yikes!! Double

. I wear long pants and long sleeve shirts year round for sun protection. There are several good brands of spf shirts and pants out in the market that will not make you sweat to death when outside.

I am well aware of all of them, I'm just a poor unfortunate soul who sweats a ton without doing anything... let alone hiking in the middle of the southern summer.

Here what my June synopsis:
I didn't have that big/good of a spawn bite like I thought, pretty average. I have 3 ponds nearby that I alternate between, I try for once a week. I only have a skunk rate of about maybe 20% chance. Averaging about 2 fish per trip. My best of the ponds has been a little over 2.5lbs in April. I caught another 2lb this last Friday.

So now the temps are hovering around 90 to 90+ here in CenLa (Central Louisiana), barely any clouds. The main pond I fish has virtually no cover, so its full on summer pattern. (but a secondary pond right next to it has way more cover, tree line, shady spots)
At this point until it gets dusk, its pretty much a bottom fishing deal as the fish are there to avoid the sun. Ribbon/Curl tail worm has been getting the job done. If its windy+cloudy i'll throw the spinnerbait to see what activity level they are at.

So pretty much in these "dog days" i'm throwing a bluegill (GP+orange+blue) swim jig first to cover water and/or a Berkley squarebill crank (I usually always catch at least 1 Crappie when I throw the crank, which is nice). I'll have the chatterbait on standby as potential. After the moving bait, I just switch to bottom dragging a ribbontail/curl worm and work a couple techniques. Mostly dragging or kinda yo-yo/jigging it. I think i'm going to start throwing a bigger profile creature bait (pitboss or brush hog or craw) before the worm to see if it will catch quality (size) vs quantity.

If you are not having many cloudy days and not many shady spots/cover, I implore you to be throwing a worm with lots of action on the bottom.
Most people are throwing a shaky head with the worm (I don't use spinning gear) I'm just simple texas rigging it and I looked at how i'm retrieving it to try imitate a shaky head type of action.
