I currently have a Dobyns SA 734c. ,  SA 735c. and a SA 703s.  rods and was thinking of buying either a SA 703c. or 733c. for slightly lighter baits and applications ... The question is what different applications would I use it for versus the close SA 703s. spinning rod I already have - your thoughts & experiences ? Thanks in advance !

zippyduck

The 703c and 733c are MH rods and your SA703sf is a medium power.

The 3 power casting rods are very versatile. Some guys throw jerkbaits  small spinnerbaits, and small cranks on them. Most use them for small jigs, tubes, and shakeyheads.

I'm a reaction bait guy and use my three powers just like Zippy mentioned. I'll toss a crank up to an Arashi 5, most 110 jerkbaits, and 1/4-3/8 ounce spinnerbaits. I hate fishing a senko but it's good for that.

I love the 703S for shaky heads and dock fishing when I need to finesse a dock

I have watched you do this. It is a lesson to take seriously.  ~c~

Thanks Zippyduck to clarify plus tips offered ! Of the two , the 703c might be a tad more versatile in length for such applications versus the 733 c ?

Great replies here already. Here's a short one. I'd go with the 733C. It has so many uses it's crazy. Even if It wouldn't be a first choice as a jig rod, it'd do it good enough. This is one of the most versatile rods we make. If fact I always say if you have a 733C and a 734C you could probably fish 85-90% of techniques requiring a casting rod. THX!!

At what bullet weight would you move from a 733 to a 734 for Texas rigging soft plastics?

Mike Cork

For me it's not so much about the weight as it is having to push the hook through the plastic and then into a bass's jaw. So anything that is rigged Texas style I'm going to a four power, unless is a very thin worm or finesse application then I stick with the 3 powers.

I'm totally amazed at the sheer amount of different things I can do with my FR 733C. I also have a SA 734C and I think that with just a very few exceptions between those two rods I could throw just about anything.

*Thanks Gary ! Looks like I will be adding a Sierra 733c. to my already Sierra collection of the 734c. and the 735c. Another reason is I may be moving from the South East to Arizona where the Sierra 733c. might prove real useful !

733 is a great rod.  I throw 3/8 chatterbaits, lipless cranks and light swim jigs.  Works well.
