Champion XP 735 "The Frogging Assassin"

Over the last couple of month's I have been using the CH 735 exclusively for my frogging applications. My main frogging outfit is a LSCR, however on these last couple of outings my kids have come along with me and I didn't want to risk any mishaps using a longer rod, so I switched over and used my 7'3" CH XP.

For anyone who is remotely on the fence in using this rod for their frogging applications, DON'T BE!! This rod is absolute stud in this dept. Over my last 3 outings I have been fortunate enough to stick close to 75 bass exclusively with this CH 735 XP, and it performed flawlessly. Perfectly balanced, with a deceptively powerful back bone, I easily horsed the bass out of the cover and over my gunnel. This rod was made to be fished HARD. Trust me, the 735 CH XP will not let you down!!

Thanks for the good review of this rod as a frog rod Lou it sounds like a great choice for a frog rod.

I'm just excited to try out my Fury 735 for frogging! The champ is probably super sweet rod for it.

I moved to the 736 for frogging but the 735 was my rod of choice for 6-7 years. To be honest I'm not sure why I switched LOL

You'll love the Fury as well.

For me frogging the more I do it the more I move to faster heavier power rods. Early on I seem to be to anxious and it seems to help to have the slower tip for better hookup %. As I keep fishing the frog I kind a hone in on the timing, feel, and what I am seeing. I can completely understand the move to a 6 power. The conditions get thicker and thicker as the vegetation grows. I hate hooking up with a good fish and not being on a good Heavy or Mag Heavy frog rod. As you hurry to get the boat to him to you just know most of the time the fish is long gone.

The 735 and 736, are 2 great rods. For REALLY thick cover, the 736 will get the nod.

Geez Mike, you live in Lousiana. That alone mandates the 6 power. I use a 735 personally. If I were to use a 736 guys might say i'm over compensating for something............which is not true. When Gary introduced the Xtacy series I thought it Xtense series. My mistake.

I personally use the 736 but the 735 will get the job done for sure.
