Put the boat in the water.
The motor started after pumping the bulb but started to move backward. I shifted forward and it died. put it in neutral and it started and moved backward. I put in reverse and it continued to go backwards.

I pulled the cowling and the throttle moves but when I move the shifter nothing happens.

I will be calling the dealership tomorrow morning.

When they serviced the lower unit, they didn't get the shift linkage lined up properly when they bolted it back on. Probably just need to drop the LU, line up the linkage, and bolt back up.

+1  But it would not hurt to give your rabbits foot a big rub just in case.

The good news is that they should take of it for nothing, the bad news is the back and forth.

It was a sad day. I came back from parking the truck, and I see Zippy doing backwards donuts in the middle of the river. He tells me that the boat only goes in reverse. The poor guy can't catch a break. He looked like a man who lost his PB right at the boat.

Damn Zip..sorry to hear your maiden voyage was short lived.

Damn.

You handled it better than I would have.  Fish baller would have heard my expletive filled rant before he got out of the truck. Along with everyone else in a 10 mile radius.

Guys,

I was more upset with myself for not checking that out before I left the lot. I knew what it was and verified it at the ramp. Nothing I could do at that second so we just put the trolling motor down and fished what I thought was safe to get back to the ramp.

That trolling motor is not too powerful. never did I feel it was going to throw me out of the boat but had plenty of power to do everything I needed in high winds.

My 55 in the aluminum is more dangerous.

How many lbs TM do you have again?

Did it do that on the test run?  Or did it just start after they serviced the LU?  What a bummer!

The first time I launched my boat, the oil alarm started beeping on my Optimax.  It turned out that during the 900 mile ride home from Dallas, the magnet on the sensor inside the oil tank had fallen off because it was old and hadn't been used.  I had to get the tank replaced.  Nothing more frustrating that trying to get your boat on the water and the gremlin shows up!

Sorry to hear!

101 lbs
A 101 should snatch that boat out from underneath you. You might want to check and make sure you're getting 36v to the TM.

Yep, was thinking the same thing.  You mention earlier they put in new batteries and likely did not get the jumpers correct.  Batteries were installed by the guy that did the lower unit repair.   :)  Hopefully your keel guard won't fall off.

I agree with FD on this one. Make sure there are 36 volts and that the batteries are in good shape. If you have the motor pointed sideways and hit the go button is should be a full on stumble fest.

101 Motorguide? MinKota's do spin up that helps prevent the jerking of the boat but still it's hard to stand one footed

Sorry to hear about the linkage issues, good and bad news, the fact that it wasn't put together right proves they dropped it and did some maintenance. Bad news that they didn't put it back right, happens to the best mechanics but they should have checked it.
