I haven't been since the late spring.  Not enough time unfortunately and I discovered the Susquehanna recently after a kayak tournament up that way.  Smallmouth are pretty fun to target needless to say.  It's about twice the drive, but in 3 trips I haven't been skunked which I can't say about either RG or Triadelphia - haha.  Will definitely be back soon to see if I can figure when exactly the fall bite happens on these deep reservoirs.

The "Susky" is known for it's smallmouth. Another good place but not as far would be Prettyboy Reservoir in Northern Baltimore County- it has been known for it's smallmouth for years and is another "electric only" lake with plenty of places for big smallmouth to hide.

Triadelphia has been on fire for me this past week. Have landed 3 pike, countless white perch, and about a dozen bass mostly in the 1-2lb range. Have been seeing pictures of a lot of people catching pike there lately.

The pike are in the creek channels. Finding the bass around the submerged trees/brush and main lake points, and perch in the creek mouths. I was on a school of good sized white perch this afternoon. Pulled in 3 in a row at one point.

Good job. The pike may be getting into the cooler water of the creeks and coves. The big bass should start moving up in a couple weeks once the water starts cooling down.

Anybody know which creek channels autumn bass like to travel in? I'm going to work the cove around Pig Tail but wondering if there're any other channels I should be aware of. Any chance bass move on the main lake channel towards the Northern end?
Soft plastic fishing, its as easy as pie

Pig tail is worth checking out. I was there today actually. The gate was locked had to carry my yak down to the water. I fished the creek channel all the way out to where it opens up about halfway out to the main lake.

The trend was similar to what I've experienced up lake though the water was warmer by about 4 degrees. If you start fishing the creek channel immediately out from the launch you will have the best chance to hook a pike. As you move further out the bass start hitting. And where the creek channel open up to deep water the white perch are around. I have been fishing crankbaits mainly. The bites have almost exclusively been coming on the pauses. Chrome rattle trap yoyod has been nailing em also. They seem to be right in the middles of the creek channels and the top/bottom tips of the lines of submerged brush.

For the past 2 weeks I have caught numerous bass each trip and 2-4 pike per trip. The bass have been small though. I am hoping the bigger ones move into the creek channels in the coming weeks. Today actually, I caught the largest bass of the fall for myself so far at triadelphia fairly close to the launch on my way back in.

Get a map of the reservoirs which shows the channels. I am pretty sure the main channel running up to the dam is what they use in the winter- a lot of the creeks off the main channel are too shallow for their winter hibernation unless there is access to deep water close by.

Water is super low as of last weekend.  Went to launch from my usual spot at Pigtail launch, water was so low (and no kayak cart) no way i was making it in there.  Looked similar to the pictures of when it was drained.  Went to the boat launch, what a mess that is...  Worked towards pigtail and then further up around Big Branch.  Not much going on, 2 little largemouth but did manage my first two pike ever.  Nothing huge, but still fun to catch some new firsts.

If there are things visible that are normally under the surface now would be a great time to take some pictures and make notes. When the water levels come back up you'll be able to fish things others won't even know are there.

I did this many years ago when they drained my favorite local pond. They made some changes to the bottom and put some big rocks and wood in there and they left some other things alone thank the Lord.

It took 5 years for that pond to come back strong, but when it did I knew where a lot of key fish holding spots were.

With them remaining open this winter, if the level is still low, walk the shoreline with a hand held GPS and a camera, get a map from the visitors center and mark what you find. You would be surprised how much there is below the waterline you can't see when the water is up.

Went by this week and the water level is back to full capacity

Must have gotten a lot of rain up there this winter.

Yea its been filled back up since December now. I take my dog there to run around a couple times a week. Also did some shore fishing up until the new year. Was targeting carp and the action was steady. There are some big ones in there. Too cold for me to go sit and wait now, plus just bought a boat so been getting it ready for the opening in march

Reservoir Runner

Yes there are some big carp in the reservoirs, don't know which one is the better of the two for carp. They get back in the shallows in the spring to spawn and can muddy up a shallow cove in a heartbeat.

DWbass

Looks like the reservoirs are opening back up this week....  can't wait to get back out there.

Good luck! May be slow the first week or two.

Caught a decent pike on my first cast yesterday at triadelphia.

Nothing else the rest of the day. water was 44. Should start waking up soon.

Reservoir Runner

The pike will be on the prowl, the water temp is to their liking- don't know how deep you caught it, but they used to frequent the shallows when the water temp was cold. If you get a lot of sun the next couple weeks, by the 1st week in April you might find bass roaming the flats looking for spawning areas- when you come out of Rocky Gorge and head west, there is a huge flat before you get to the turn toward the 29 bridge- keep an eye on that. At Triadelphia, if you put in at Greenbridge, you run upstream about 1/2 mile, there is a huge flat there also plus very deep water at the end that drops into the channel with plenty of rock. When they get ready to spawn, they will stage at the drop off so that they can move up of down on the flat if an unfavorable weather front causes changes.

Went to Triadelphia Saturday 27th and the water temps were up from last weekend (44deg up to 56deg) so it was looking pretty promising but got skunked for the first 4hrs, I was on my way back to the ramp and gave it one more try right before the ramp (Triadelphia Lake Rd) which is the farthest ramp north on the reservoir. Caught 4 largemouth 2 nice size and 2 dinks but it was something....  water was really stained probably from all the rain during the week.

Nice. Congrats on rescuing the outing.  I am always hit or miss at both reservoirs.  I think I had a good May last year but I think this year is warming up quicker.
