I'm one step closer in beginning my big swimbait adventure. Fortunately my Xmas bonus came early.  ~c~

So far I have ordered:

* The reel, I went with a Lews Super Wide Speed Spool.

* Ordered two more swim baits, a 7" Slow sinking Bull shad and 4" Slow sinking Bull shad (I know 4" is not considered a big swim bait. ;) )

* Swimbait rod will be ordered tomorrow, after consulting with the Dobyns crew.  :)

* Fishing line will be ordered tomorrow as well.

All in all, by Jan 1st my quest to break my PB will begin.

Stay tuned!!

What line and rod are you going with?  Just curious.  I use braid for everything and I believe I am using 30 lb for my swimsuits
There is nothing like sharing any moment outdoors with someone special!

My swimbait rod is going to be Champion 795/6 or 805/6. I'm usually pretty good in knowing what rod I want, but I'm not with these longer rods, and I want to make sure I purchase the one that suits my style.

As far as line, I'm going to give Gamma a shot in 25lbs. I have more success fishing treble baits with mono, and many of the big swimbait guys strictly use heavy mono.

Good luck to you Lou and hope you find a new PB on your new set up. I know it out there just waiting for you to find it.  ~bb ~bb

Have you considered the River 2 Sea Swaiver? Many of the videos that I watched recommend it as a great swimbait that is rather affordable.

I wanted to experiment with them but haven't yet pulled the trigger.

I'm excited to see how you do and how they work in Florida!

I did actually, Flats. But the Ninja Glider was on sale over on Monster Tackle so I went that route.

I agree fishing the bigger swimbaits in the right situation will yield much bigger fish for me down here in the swamps.

Enjoy the big bait adventure. It's certainly addicting.

Check out the Gan Craft Jointed Claws and the MS Slammer's. Those are my favorites.

cool quest Lou!  excited for you and hope you can keep us in the loop.
stuff like this often doesn't go as expected, but there are many benefits to be gained along the way.

now, what is your PB?

and PM sent.

I have not been able to break the 7.5lb mark, but... I have lost 3, that I will never forget that would have gone over that mark. So my quest continues...  lo lo

I've always said, it's the ones that don't get into the boat that live LARGE in our minds.

once you figure that out, as a recreational angler (not competitive with money on the line) you can possibly realize how much those fish 'fire' our passion to keep after them.

you are on a wonderful journey!

(and don't gloss over/past the folks talking about 15# flouro for swimbaits)

I'm one more step closer, got off the phone with Dobyns a little while ago, and my swimbait rod has been ordered. To see what I chose, look here ---> Dobyns Swimbait Rod

I called an audible on the fishing line, will be picking that up tomorrow.  ;D

been throwing my A-Rigs on it.  Great stuff.

You're in for some fun days! Throwing big baits is addictive even if the bass aren't biting. Messing with different actions and seeing big fish stalking them is a total adrenaline rush. Definitely get some rats and slammers!
Quit reading this and go fishing!

I have tried getting into flouro several times,  but flouro is just not for me. Copoly's and braid are my go to lines, but I do appreciate the recommendation.

Them ought to catch you some nice Bass Lou. Will be looking for one of them to catch you a new PB. ~bb
