Both of my trolling motors are a minimum of 15 years old.  One has been a spare hanging in the garage for a long long time and one is on the boat.  With my recent problems I just decided to swap the motors and I would be good to go.  Well it turns out the spare did not work either.  So, my only option at this time was to attempt a repair.  I just don't want to spend a bunch for a new motor.

So, I took apart the pedal this morning to remove the speed knob and the rotary switch that are inside the pedal.  It turns out that to be a bit of a pain in the butt due to some level of corrosion but after a struggle with some E clips and a couple other doo dads, It came apart enough to reveal the switch and the knob mountings.  Retested the switch and indeed it is shot and it looks like when the switch froze up the knob ground its self off at the shaft so I need to order both parts.  Just place an order with Trollingmotorparts.com for the parts I needed.  I will still need to go to a local hardware store and get some replacement e clips but that is not a biggie.  As it turns out the total dollars I am spending for parts is under $30.   Sure is better than spending $1K for a new motor wouldn't you say.

With tongue in cheek, I need to thank my Wife for telling me how to perform each step of the disassembly process.   lo lo

X2 and in addition to the Ultrex, the self deploying Ulterra would be  great aid for the aged angler.

Just traced the shipment of the spare parts I ordered and they are at the local post office for delivery tomorrow.  Hopefully I can get the troller put back together and be ready for the river before you know it.  Now all I gotta do is remember where all the doo dads fit.   ;D

Ready to start repairs as soon as the mail comes with my parts.

The trolling motor pedal is now repaired and back on the boat.  Just now tested to be sure all 5 speeds are functional and hooray, they are.  Still not happy with  the speed select knob but It will do for now.  The only aggravation with this repair was replacing the E Clips and the C Clip on the knob assembly.  I don't have the right tool so I had to make do.  This will need some more attention but you can bet I will have the right tool the next time.  Only thing left to do now is to put the transducer back on the motor and zip tie the transducer wire and I will be good to go.
