The monkey strikes again.....SA703c

 We went to Academy to get the grandson's some new shoes for school, they have a lot of footwear on clearance right now so after finding them some new kicks of course I had to head over to the fishing dept When I get over there I see a couple 5 gallon buckets with various rods in them. I figure I might find a good deal on something so I start looking through the rods the third rod I pull out is a sierra 703c, I was surprised because they don't normally carry the sierra line in my store just online, when I seen the price of 99.98 I couldn't pass it up. they only had 2 of them. They also had the Fury 703's on clearance for 94.00

I had been thinking that I wanted to add a 3 power to go with my FR734 and SA735 so I guess I was at the right place at the right time.

A Daiwa SV reel is at the top of my list of reels I wanna try but pretty much blew my fishing budget on this rod lol.
I had my citica 200D on another rod and it has some weight to it being an older reel and all but I have to say when I put it on this rod the setup is so balanced I really don't notice the weight of the reel. The Sierra line is amazing for the price point.

That is the thing with Dobyns, they balance their rods at the reel seat. That way whatever reel you put on the balance doesn't change that much and the weights is in your hand and not over the rod.

Zippy is on the money. The rod is balanced and most reels are within a certain range. Most all will be great. I don't know why Academy puts those on clearance. We ship them more all the time. BTW....I LOVE that biting Monkey

I don't why Academy would mark these down either but I am in love with the sierra line and if they want to sell them to me cheap I'm not gonna complain

Hey you might want to check because my Academy doesn't normally have the sierra's in store and I seen on the Dobyns FB where a guy in Oklahoma got the same deal at his local Academy.

I plan on using it for light soft plastics, t-rigs, senkos and small paddle tail swimbaits. I will report back once I get a chance to get out and use it.

The monkey got me too last night. Went to the local Academy last night and picked -up a Sierra 734 for $76.59. They also had the Sierra 766 for $107.00.

Been wanting to fishing with a Dobyns for a while

Now what reel am I going to buy next?

Probably wouldn't help. Most sporting goods stores up here carry very little fishing gear.

Even our Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's here  carry a low inventory IMHO. The suff they do have is mostly their own brands.

Congrats on SA703 I got FR703 and I probably enjoy using that rod than all my other Dobyns. I use my 703 for spinnerbait,lipless crank bait,poppers and a spook, it's a fun rod to catch fish on gets the old heart beating Enjoy!!
