It's hot and I can't spend much time outside without sweating like a nun in a cucumber patch. So I took the opportunity to sight in a bow I got last year and haven't had the chance to shoot yet. It's a Bear BR 33 and it's pretty damned nice compared to the old Whitetail Hunter I used 30 years ago.

Not planning on hunting with it just yet, only target shooting. I set up the target at 20 yards to get comfortable.

The first round went pretty well, considering I haven't shot a bow in about 12 years.

There's a lot of spread because I was getting a sense for how the sight relates to the peep hole and release. My old bow had the old style pin sights, no peep hole, and I used finger tabs. So this is a major step into the space age for me. I set up again and gave it another shot, still at 20 yards.

Better, but still need a lot of practice. It was hot and I was a dripping wet mess, so I retreated to my house to cool off. I just got back from a vacation trip during which I visited the Little Bighorn battlefield. I spent the whole day there, touring the site, and I'll say that everyone should visit it at least once. It's a haunting and powerful place.

The Sioux, Arapaho, and Cheyenne used rifles, muskets, pistols, war clubs, tomahawks, and of course bows and arrows. A display of the different arrow tips made me think of their way of life and how similar but different we all are.

I thought of that as I was messing around with my modern compound bow and high tech arrows in my yard. So as not to end on a downer, here's this:

So, any of you guys shoot bows? Let's see them if you do!
