Nolan Lake Ft. Hood Texas 26 Jun 19

I made an late afternoon trip over to Nolan Lake yesterday after work.  I fished from 4pm - 7:30pm.
Weather wise it was a nice day 98dgrs with partly sunny skies with a 3-5mph wind blowing from the Southeast. 

The lake is down about 2ft due to Heat Evaporation.  With the lake low it's getting harder to launch the G3.  The lake is stained but you can see you bait down about 6- 10inches.  Water temps varied depending on your location.  It was 89dgrs at the launch site and 85dgrs up at the West end of the lake where I started fishing.

I caught (3) fish this trip.  The 1st fish was caught on a Reaction Innovation Sweet Beaver 4.20 Fried Watermelon Texas Rigged.  The 2d and 3rd fish were caught on a 3/8oz KaRue Viber Shock Orange Craw with a Reaction Innovation 4.20 Sweet Beaver Watermelon Red trailer.  The fish were caught in depths ranging from 4ft > 7ft deep.

I didn't catch my 1st fish till around 6pm on a Texas Rigged Sweet Beaver. It was caught out of the Southwest cove off the down Willow Tree.  The area around this tree is a text book spot.  Its got 7ft of water on one side of the tree and 4ft on the other side.  There's over hanging bushes and submerged laydowns around both sides of this willow.

My 2nd and 3rd fish were caught off the grass island out on main part of the lake.  Here's a couple pictures of the island.  1st picture your looking East towards the dam.  The main creek channel runs just to the left (North side) of the island.  There's a ledge that runs the length of the island out about 10ft or so then it drops off into the creek channel.  The 2nd picture your looking (South across the island) the area on the South side runs about 4ft deep.  This whole area here is a huge flat with submerged trees, small ditches and lots of grass.

Hmm I thought I replied to this report. Guess I didnt hit post. 

Anyway great report Don that Sweet Beaver was getting it done. I see you are using the Black Max reels my fishing partner Jeff use to use those and did quite well with them. Not a bad reel for the $ I suppose.

I've not had any issues with them yet.  When I upgraded to the low profile reels from my 5500C I decided to  give these a try.  I have ( 8 ) of them I fish with out of the G3.  These are going on their 4th year now.
I keep them maintained through out the year.   Late Winter and Fall I give them a good cleaning and put fresh line on them.
