Today was yet another trip to the river.  Recently we have suffered through a few weeks of high heat and humidity bringing the temperature index to over 100 for the past number of weeks.  There have been some pop of storms but no real frontal conditions in our area due to a blocking high pressure.  This has resulted in some ugly fishing weather with not much to show for it.

Today on the river was a surprise.  We had anticipated another blue bird sky day along with high temperatures but something changed.  We launched at 6:30 AM at the last part of the outgoing tide.  Tide was running hard and it was a chore just trying to keep the boat in position.  My original though to try some early topwater was not possible in this current so I soon switched to one of my least favorite presentations and tied on a texas rigged senko.  The bait today was a Doc Irv Green Pumpkin senko type bait and I fished it unweighted.

The difference today was the skies were actually high overcast with a slight breeze that made for some very comfortable conditions.  The sonar was full of bait fish that I have not seen earlier in the week.  The  T rigged worm did the trick and I boated a number of dink style bass but nothing of any size.  I would say nothing today would be considered a scoring bass on the MLF.  The bites were strong and consistent for about an hour before it quit.  All in all a nice day.

So the difference today was high clouds, a breeze and the very last of the low tide.  Like all things in the fishing world is is location location coupled with the right conditions at the right time.  Today was so different and more like you would expect in a text book style analysis.  This is not often the case on the Waccamaw River where the feeding habits seem to defy norms on most days.  Bottom line lke always find the bait and you will find the bass.  Certainly no secret there.
