Jerkbait Rod ?

Okay, so I have a Berkley Lightning Rod Shock 6'6" Medium (and I'm assuming a Fast tip but Berkley doesn't list it on the rod) casting rod that I was thinking of pairing with my Shimano SLX 6.3:1 for a jerkbait setup but for some reason I just can't quite get out of my mind that a better rod would be more beneficial. I see TW has the Shimano Exage on sale for $79.97 plus with the coupon code you get $5 off so it's down to $74.97 and I was looking at the 6'10" M/F or MH/F...is it worth it to pull the trigger on that rod or should I take my blinders off and give the LRS rod a chance? I also like the Shimano SLX rod in the same length/powers.

That 7ft. medium fast Daiwa you just bought would be fine.
I have fished the 6ft 10 medium Zodias and it's a nice jerkbait/topwater rod. There's probably a SLX with the same specs.

My local tackle shop has the SLX for $99 and the same 6'10" M/F in a Curado rod for $129, do you think the Curado rod would be worth the extra $30? Lucky me I won a $90 gift certificate in a store contest they just had last weekend so I'll only have to come up with a few extra bucks for another rod

I've never fished the Curado version so I can't be of any help. I would add that if your local dealer sells Megabass The new Levante jerkbait rod is based off the Destroyer one ten special.
It's a $200 dollar stick but with $99 off it would be a steal..
I don't think there's a better rod in that price range.

No Dobyns in the store. I have two Curado rods that sit on the shelf as they are heavy and less responsive than any Dobyns I have used. I would rather use a Berkley Lightning rod shock.

If they carry Dobyns Fury get a 704cb you won't regret it.

Nope, no Dobyns either...Daiwa, Shimano and Abu Garcia are their big name brands they carry plus of course all the "el cheapo" Shakespeare, Zebco etc.

I know I saw a Fuego and a Tatula XT...there may be some others too. I just remembered that they have some St. Croix as well...Mojo Bass, Bass-X are what I remember seeing.

I would go with a Daiwa in M/mod if they have one.

The Mojo bass rods do not impress me at all. I like St.Croix high end rods but those two low end models just are not in my favorites.

The newer Mojo's with the SC111 blank are pretty decent . I think the topwater rod makes a better jerkbait rod than the one they label for jerkbaits.
If they have one it's worth a look.
