Time of day: 3:00pm to 8:30pm
Weather conditions: Heavy clouds. Occasional light rain. Wind NNW 10 to 15 mph with gusts upwards of 20 mph
Temperatures: Water temps were 81 to 83 deg. Air temp was 79 falling to 75

Had a great afternoon of fishing. Was in my eyes a almost perfect day. I love cloudy days and 70s air temps. Its just very comfortable and I seem to do well in these conditions.

So my friend Jeff and I went out and gave it a shot. It didn't take long for me to hunt a wind break. I like me some wind but I also like to not have to stay on the TM to hold my position. So we find this nice wind break in this cove. Luckily for us they haven't started killing all the vegetation around here so there was plenty of prime fishing stuff was to be had.

So I pulled out the Savvy 734 with a Ribbit toad. And my Lew's Custom Lite Magnum Pitchin rod with the 1oz. Oldham Trailer Hitch jig. Started working the pads with the toad and it didn't take long for a few catches.

As we continued and got to areas with little or no pads I would pitch the jig to the grass edges. Most seemed to be hitting the jig in areas where cover was thickest. When we would move to new areas with pads I would again try the toad. Some were just nipping at it or would just swirl and swim off. But every once in a while that one fish would just explode on it.  ;D

We lost count at around 20 fish. Heck we probably missed 10 between the two of us. Seems some bites were not hunger driven or at best not really engulfing the bait. Lost several jig trailer parts, more than usual by far for the time fished.

I also fished the LT frog for a little while when it appeared the frog bite was peaking. Sadly not one attempt was made by my green friends.
Headed to load up. Clouds have almost all cleared out as well.

Makes me want to break out the frogs and jigs on my next trip. Is the head on that jig unpainted? I make my own jigs and usually don't paint the heads. Looks like a great trip you guys had.

It was painted originally but most of the paint has been worn off from use. Fish dont care only the fishermen notice things like that.  lo

That's what I always figured. Worm weights usually aren't painted and the jigs I DID paint wound up nekkid after a couple of trips scraping bottom anyway. And like you said, the bass don't give a hoot.
