While watching Major League Fishing this afternoon I have come to the conclusion that Ike is suffering from the dreaded angling condition I call RMS  - Roland Martin Syndrome.

I watched as he hooked a fish and then in typical Ike hyperactivity fashion he starts yelling "it's a giant, it's a giant" and as he swings it into the boat he exclaims "it's a big one".

When his official weighed the fish it was 2 lbs. and 10 ounces.

All I can say is Roland would be proud.

Ike's over the top dramatics make me not a fan. He is probably the least liked guy on MLF. I'd rather get a root canal than fish with him.

Actually glad he and the other drama queens went over there.

am liking the BASS 'new' guys.

I get that IKE rubs some people the wrong way and like to pile on him, but I have no problem with him.

As far as the size of the fish? The biggest fish (IIRC) caught during the program was just shy of 5 pounds. Giant is a relative term...

I've suffered from it. But in my defense it's usually when you've been on a bad luck streak and forget what one feels like hooked on so anything feels like a giant. Then you land it and the other guy in the boat just laughs at you.

I've seen this Ike guy every so often and it makes me glad I quit following BASS and other tournaments decades ago. Guy's a clown and his act is ridiculous. He's the kind of guy that inspired all the yahoos on YouTube and the EXTREEEEEEMMME instabros. But that's just my opinion.

I don't mind him,  I think he's a good fisherman and when you actually talk to him he's a great guy. But yes his antics probably did play a role in all the hype bros that think they're pros in today's fishing and it's the part that I hate the most about what bass fishing has become.

I guess I should apologize and clear things up a bit.

I didn't intend this thread to come off like I was bashing Ike. I don't dislike the guy nor do I particularly like him either. I could take him or leave him fishing wise. I'm sure in person he is probably a very nice guy and I know he's done a lot of work with kids in his off time which I admire.

This thread was more a laughing reaction to his calling a 2 pound 10 ounce fish a giant. It reminded me of Roland Martin back in the day.

IMHO a 2 pound 10 ounce fish is NOT a giant anywhere. I dont care if every other bass in the lake is 10 inches. A 2-10 doesn't qualify as a giant.

Just my opinion.

Now you know the problem I had with Roland on tour. Roland is a great angler but he let you know he is great every day of the year. He was respected by his peers for his ability but few wanted to be around him. He has SMS(short man syndrome) which gave everyone else a case of RMS.

been there, done that.  after a day of 10-12 inch fish, that 18 incher sure looks like moby dick!

When you think about that it really is a sad statement.

One thing about Mike.  He has a bunch of people talking about him and in the world of self promotion that is what you gotta do.  All I know is that my chance meeting with Mike at Santee was a really good experience in a very non public way.  Just a chance meet up at the tie down area at the ramp and a nice connversation during that time.  He could not have been more pleasant and relaxed.  For sure he seems to be an intense competitor from his public persona and I agree the screaming sessions on some videos is a bit more than most can stand or tolerate for that matter.  I think we can all agree that bass fishing has afforded him a very comfortable living with a loyal set of sponsors.  I guess the sponsors also like the attention he generates for their products.

I don't care for all the screaming and such but the guy can fish. Watch his videos and he's a good teacher. The kids love the antics and he's responsible for a lot of them staying with the sport. If he did that in my boat I'd put the TM on high and when he wasn't looking hit it but not until I picked his brain.

One man's "giant"...is another man's "dink'.  :)
1 is luck, but 2 is a pattern!

He gets on my nerves also when I am watching him fish.  But I will say if you watch his videos on youtube, he is probably one of the best teachers of bass fishing in the pros.  He explains things about techniques and tackle in a way someone just starting out in the bass fishing world could learn faster.  The other guys from what I have watched like to act like they are above that when they are doing videos on techniques and such.

Call me crazy, but I really like Ike. Might have something to do with one of my favorite movies, "Happy Gilmore". The dude cracks me up, and from what I've seen behind the scenes makes it hard for me not to like him. One guy everyone loves that I'm not a fan of at all is Jacob Wheeler. I guess I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum than everyone else.

I feel the same way Brent.  Love Happy Gilmore!  Caddy Shack too.  :)

Can't stand the routine but love listening to him when he acts normally. I'll bet head of officials A Aron Beshears can't stand Ike or A Aron Martens.

If you are in the videos for info, then you need to check out David Dudley. That man is all fishing. Some hate him still for tactics he used early in his career, but he knows the game, and knows the fish.
