Well it is ICAST week in Orlando.  I wonder what new things will be introduced.

Princeton_Man

Steve and I was just discussing one of those things.  lo

Garmin Force
Stratos 285 XL Pro 150 Evinrude ETEC

Dobyns Rods - LSCR Club

Cuervo Jones

I hear the Mike Long rig will feature prominently. Trebles, white grubs, and bank sinkers are flying off the shelves.

I'm curious to see the new Lowrance trolling motor. Hopefully they'll force some lower pricing for everybody.

Old Fishermen never die, their rods just go limp.

Now that would be something worth talking about. It would be nice if some of us more average guys could play with some of the Talons and spot lock etc. without taking a loan out.  lo

BarryFL

Lowrance is going to be $2999. And the remote will be extra when they release it.

It will be fun watching YouTube reviews of the new ones pitted against the Ultrex. Probably be as close to one as I will get for a little while.

FlatsNBay

They were having technical difficulty with the Lowrance trolling motor when I went to look at. I'll check it again tomorrow. I did look at the new Garmin trolling motor and must say Wow! It is the quietest trolling motor that I've ever seen. The cordless foot control was smooth as butter. They had it set up so you could try it out.

If anything, maybe Minnkota and MG will drop their prices to keep Lowrance and Garmin out for a while.

Mark up on these TMs is probably 300%. There's a lot pricing room but I know how people are about having the latest greatest.

I totally agree on the markup. Take cell phones for example $12 to $30 bucks and they sell for over $1000 and the kicker is they all do 95% the same exact thing. Sure one may have a slightly better camera or a hair faster but get real. If people wouldn't be so foolish and buy the extremely over priced stuff they would have no choice to get more reasonable or go broke.

BarryFL

Interesting you would mention cellphones, because I agree, and truly hope the fishing industry doesn't go to a basically disposable marketing strategy.

The basic functions of a TM (maneuver the boat) should last 10 years. All of the spot lock and other enhancements are mostly useless in Florida where we fish vegetation 90% of the time. Talons or Power Poles are more useful.

Most of my fishing is less than 10ft also. But I have water up to 50ft in places and commonly 25ft that I would like to try and use crankbaits or bottom contact baits but hate fighting the moving boat when I find them on my graph. I can use my fiberglass stake when fishing shallow but a real anchor in deep water sucks so bad I don't want to deal with it. Pretty much my only reason to want one is to hold position. Otherwise I don't need the over priced TM.
Just for the record reading around on the net its amazing how many are hating on the $3000.00 price. I bet its 3 to 1 people complaining about the absurd cost. But I bet many still go get one if they have to put it on a CC.

Princeton_Man

I don't believe Minn Kota will have as much price flexibility as Garmin since Minn Kota is built here in the US, paying US wages to US citizens. I don't know where Lowrance's unit is being made but I'm betting they're cranking them out using foreign labor as well.

They are copying the Scorpion's color?
Who knows if this is gonna be the USDM coloration. Scorpion copied the Revo Rocket colors this time, so why not? Lol
