Stren, I know what you mean about getting that uncomfortable feeling.  I don't always carry when I go out on the boat but at Santee it was a bit of a standard practice just for critter protection.  The launch area I used is very large there and during the week it was not uncommon to be only one of two or three other rigs in the parking lot.  Being a senior citizen, I guess I may feel a bit more concerned because folks with ill intentions might think that and old man with his old wife would be a simple target.

On one such time, we were putting the boat back on the trailer after a day of fishing.  There were two guys at the ramp just hanging out and they were talking to me as I pulled onto the trailer.  They were looking at the boat and the tackle and walked with the boat when the wife pulled over to the tie down area.  They continued to mill around the truck a bit so as I was getting out of the boat I made sure they saw me take my Judge out of the console and put it in my belt.  All of a sudden they just stopped walking around us and headed to their vehicle.  I don't know what there intentions were but I wanted them to know that I was not as easy target that they may have thought.

All of this may have been innocent enough but when you have that "feeling" you should pay attention to it.  In all of my other boat launch actions I have never had the feeling before or since.  I may have to reconsider putting the judge back in the console around here.  I have gotten out of the habit.

TGIF!!!TGIF!!! For all you what work!!! Well here I am, sitting in my recliner and operating a computer on drugs, I won't tell if you don't. Been home for 45 minutes or so from the Surgery Center, checked in at 6 checked out a bit after 9, I'm assuming all went well as I haven't seen the Doctor since the surgery, he was off to his next one. Have to take it easy for a couple of days then I can start becoming more active.
Bud, hope you're feeling better, it's just not good for folks our age to be less than 100%.
SHC, what are you going to do with 2 days Off? Don't answer that!
Donald, a promotion in your future? Might be good thing. Are you all rested up from the north country? Hope you can get out for some fishing soon!!!
Well, I see a nap or 2 in my immediate future, sometimes drugs are a good thing, only a bit of the time but sometimes.
Have a great day and weekend, catch one for me!!!

This was one of the few times I was not carrying. I was doing some yard work and told my wife I was going to take an hour or so break , and as I already had a few rods in the truck I just took off. I won't do that again. You never know what's going to happen. It was strange for sure, I've learned to go with my gut feeling... If something feels wrong, it probably is.

Good morning!!! 63 headed to mid 80s, sunny, nice day. Quiet here, just hanging out in the recliner, icing the knee, stood in the back yard yesterday for 10 minutes with a 6'6" medh BPS EXTREME WITH AN OLDER QUANTUM AC500, 15 lb POWER PRO tied to a homemade jig, Poison Tail and a craw trailer and just practice cast for the 10 minutes, first bit of pitching with my left hand since the wrist replacement, less than steller but getting there. Did a little bit with the roll cast, never really used it much so wasn't very good at it, felt good to have a rod in my hand and it's my favorite outfit for short casts to cover or moving down a grass bed inside the edge, just feels natural in the hand, in the day it was a 200$ outfit, at the time my most expensive, with some judicous shopping I've managed to stay in that range and have nice gear.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!! Bud, hope you're well and hearty now!!!

Good morning from Central Texas  :)

We're starting the day off with Blue Bird Skies  ~sun  Our forecasted temps are 75 / 94dgrs with 82% humidity.  There's a chance of afternoon showers later on today also.   We're off to the movies this morning.  Nothing else planned for today.

Rodney; Tks for the update on the knee surgery.  Glad to hear you're up and moving around so soon.  I like those BPS Extreme Rods a lot.  I have several of them matched up with Abu Garcia REVO S, REVO SX,.  While living in Alaska I use to practice my flipping and pitching in the driveway.  I'd get the strangest looks has people would drive by  lo

Stren; Glad to hear nothing happened with the situation at the parking lot.  Congrats on the catching also.

Bud; Hope your feeling a lot better this morning.

SHC; Tks for the humor there.

To everyone have a very pleasant day.  To those living in the South and Southeast we have ya'll in our daily prayers.  Hopefully this storm won't be as bad as its being forecasted.

Still not feeling 100 percent but not too bad.  Got some good sleep last night and finally have been able to eat a little bit.  The lawn was again in need of mowing so I got that done this morning along with the required trimming.  Took a couple breaks because of the heat and humidity but finally got it done.  Thank goodness I have a small lawn.  Just wanted to get it done before the rain that is expected here this afternoon.  Since the lawn is mostly weeds it grows too dang fast.  Well at least it is green

Gonna bring the boat home tomorrow and charge the batteries for a possible trip to the river on Monday depending upon how I am feeling.  Might just be another boat ride and that would be ok too but I sure am wanting to go find some bass but don't want to swelter while doing so.  Us old guys just can't take the heat anymore.

Donald Garner

Good morning to everyone,

Starting the day off with Blue Bird Skies and 73dgrs.  Our forecasted temps for across Central Texas are 73 / 93dgrs with 100% humidity today.  There's a chance of some isolated showers later on this afternoon.

We're off to church here in a little bit.  There is nothing planned for the rest of the day except relaxing.

Bud; Hope you get to feeling better soon.  A trip out on the river might be that ticket to you feeling better.

Rodney; How's the knee feeling this morning?

To everyone have a relaxing and pleasant Sunday.  Enjoy that family time together.

Looks like today will be a play day.  Bringing the boat home in a little bit to get her all charged up for a trip to the river in the morning. Not sure how she will run but my soul needs some time on the water even if it is just for a little bit.  I have an appointment at the service shop on Tuesday to continue the gremlin hunt in the old fast strike and hopefully we will get some answers about the intermittent problems I have been having.  I doubt that I will do much fishing but any fishing will be better than no fishing.  Rods are all rigged just gotta put them in the boat in the morning.

The road to the ramp still has construction underway as they are trying to fix some of the ongoing drainage problems that require them to shut down some sections of the road.  There is another way there but just a tad longer trip to get to the ramp.

Hope everyone has a great Sunday and give thanks for another day.

Mornin UB, I made it out for a while yesterday. Managed 7 in a couple hours, all came out of flooded areas. The water is all up and muddy, it's weird seeing water that dirty here. Normally you can see 6-8' in most pits, and up to 10-12 in some. The few bigger lakes to my South are all but shut down due to flooding, and one has confirmed blue green algae.
Bud I hope you get to feelin better, and get that gremlin taken care of.
Don, have you hit the water recently?
Ya'll have a good day!

Bud Kennedy

Launched at first light.  Tide was at dead low so a lot of places I wanted to visit this morning were not available via bass boat.  No bass today just a couple of mud fish just after launch and that was it.  No other bites over the next couple hours.  Mudfish came on chatter bait.  Nothing on yellow magic or squarebills today.  Did not throw any plastics at all.  We were only out two hours and when the sun started showing above the trees we headed for the trailer.

Osprey were very busy today and were having some good luck fishing for breakfast.  I always enjoy watching them hunt.  Only saw two other boats today and both were small tin boats with guys going for bream.  I watched one of them catch a few on a fly rod.  Looks like he was having fun.

Boat ran ok but not up to where it should be.  Tomorrow is shop day to continue the gremlin hunt.  Motor still starts easy and idles great. Next trip likely to be on Thursday.

Donald Garner

Good evening to all,

Mostly clear skies with a few clouds hanging around across Central Texas today.  Our forecasted temps were 77 / 97 dgrs with 44% humidity  ~sun  We got a 20% chance of a rain shower later on this evening.  With the heat index today it's a 106dgrs  ~sweat :surrender:

We were back it at if full bore today moving furniture out of all the 1st floor classroom.  Tomorrow morning we're going to start stripping the classroom floors.  We started at 6am and was completed by 9am.  The team worked really hard this morning making it happen.  I told them to make it an easy day for themselves the rest of the day.

Bud; Those mudfish can really surprise ya.  I remember catching my first one on a hula popper fishing one of the Oxbows off the Mississippi River back in 1973.  I though I had a new Missouri State Record the way that fish was fighting  :surrender:    Sure hope you can find out why the heck is wrong with your Ranger.  I know it sure is aggravating when the big engine isn't running right.  Keep us posted on the outcome.  Glad you were feeling good enough to get out on the water today.

Stren; Congrats on the catching there.  I like fishing new flooded areas especially after a couple days when the water stabilizes.   I haven't been fishing since my trip to Alaska.  The darn weather has been really hot down here and I'm just not up to getting out in 100dgr (+) temps right now.  I did go out and put both the Stratos and G3 batteries on charge last Thursday night.

Rodney; Ole buddy hope you've been resting at night here since the knee surgery.  You take it easy and don't over do it with the recovery.

To everyone have a relaxing evening and a better day tomorrow.

Launched the boat at 7am this morning.  The motor technician was the driver this time while I stayed on shore.  He now has experienced what I have been complaining about and that is a good thing.   We went back to the shop where he found some debris in a carb.  He performed a complete off motor clean up and found a small piece of debris in the needle valve.  All is cleaned up.  He pulled all the spark plugs and found that one plug was totally dry due to mega lean conditions.  The plugs are three years old so I had him replae all 6 with a new set of Champions.  The mechanic and I decided not to go to the river again today but did do a test run on a set of muffs and all seems great.  I wanted the boat to sit for a while before going out again as this seems to be when the problems are noticed the most.  I will take the boat out again in the morning to see how it goes.  I do believe that the problem may be solved as everything else check out like it should.  On a side note we also did a compression check with 5 cylinders testing at 120 and one testing at 118 so I would say that is a good thing.  Hopefully the gremlins have been chased away for now.  I guess we will know tomorrow.

Donald Garner

Good evening to all,

Beautiful day across Central Texas today.  We had mostly sunny skies with the forecasted temps 77 / 98dgrs with 47% humidity.  With the Heat index it feels like a 103dgrs outside  :surrender: ~sweat

My team continues to work hard getting the school ready for opening day.  They got all of the 1st floor classroom floors stripped today.  Tomorrow we'll start waxing them.

Bud: Tks for the update on the Ranger.  I hope she runs better for ya on your next outing.

To everyone have a pleasant and relaxing evening.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

HAPPY HAPPY HUMP DAY!!! From the recliner. 73 headed to mid/upper 70s, possible boomers, rained overnite, cloudy. We hit 90 yesterday for the first time this week, we might again Friday. The knee is coming along, I can walk normally as long as I'm careful, stairs it's still the bad leg following going up, leading coming down, I don't need to use the cane anymore. I really want to put the boat in the water, bored to tears.
Bud, good to hear they found the or one of the problems on the Ranger, if I were you I'd want to know where the debris came from, you put all new lines on it didn't you? Enjoy the river today!!!
Stren, I don't like dirty or muddy water, much of our waters are clear, at least ntil the nutjobs start crawling out of the woodwork. Congrats on the catching!!!
Donald, I don't like being out in those temps either, never did, I must be getting old, it takes a lot out of me. The team is moving right along, they think they're getting a couple days off if they get done early. lo lo ;) Hope you can get out soon!!!
Have a great day, be well!!!

Just got back from the river where we did our planned test drive since the motor repair of yesterday.  It appears that all is well at this time.  Motor performance was smooth with great starting and no problems getting on plane.  It performed pretty much as it was supposed to.  Nothing fantastic just normal.  Water temp was 85 and little to no current today.  Almost like running on a calm lake.  I am not unhappy about the performance but I think it could be better but plenty for now.  max rpms reached today was 5000 and I think that is ok it should be a bit better.  The 5000 number is consistent to the original motor specs so I guess all is well.  I typically run between 3400 and 4000 most of the time anyway.  So, overall no issues all seems well.

We are going back out in the morning but this time for a little fishing.  I was going to put the boat back in storage but the Mrs needs to get her fish on.  It is good when the wife is also an angler don't ya think.  We won't be out long will launch about 6:30 and will quit before 10.  It is just too darn hot to stay out much later than that.  Triple digit heat index is still cooking our area of the country.  Along with the heat is high humidity.  Heck even at launch this morning the air temp was 80 so you know its gonna be another hot one.  It is always like that during July and August and we start to get some breaks towards the end of September.  I am surprised the Mrs want to go out again given her significant back problems that don't seem to bother her when we are out fishing.  Go figure.

Y'all...
Gator story time.

I was cleaning out an aerator at one of my sewer ponds. This thing looks like a giant semi truck muffler turned sideways, mounted to a small raft at water level. Behind it, between it and the bank, is an electric motor that drives an impeller, pushes water into the muffler looking contraption, and the water sprays out via multiple holes in the pipe, and two smaller pipes at either end.

I'd noticed it was looking like it was spraying kind of weak. So I shut it down, greased the fittings, and noticed a huge sheet of plastic that looked like clear bisquine had sucked up against the impeller.
I pulled that out, then began clearing some debris from the small holes in the big muffler looking thing.

As I finished up the very last one (out of about 30), I noticed the duckweed right in front of me shifted.

I glanced forward...
Big gator. Plenty big enough to take me easily.
I hauled ass. I probably could have left Usain Bolt in the dust.

I made it a ways down the levee and looked back. That dude was probably about ten feet long.

I just continued walking to my truck, shut and locked the gate, and went to lunch. Gonna start carrying my rifle in the truck.

Whew it was cooking out there today.  Our forecasted temps were 74 / 96dgrs with 47% humidity.  With the heat index it's feeling like 106dgrs  :shocking:  I'm glad I work indoors with Air Conditioning  :)

The team finished waxing all of the 1st floor classroom today.  They'll check the floors in the morning and if dry they'll go in and clean each classroom.  After cleaning the classroom they'd start cleaning the furniture and getting it set back inside of the room.  After the furniture gets put back inside the only thing left is stripping and waxing the hallway.

We have a whole bunch of people from the Guardian Drum & Bugle Corps showing up tonight.  They are  staying in our school over night and practicing their movements on our football field tomorrow.  They have a big competition contest tomorrow at our High School Football field.

I have to be at work tonight at 12:30am to let everyone in.  I already have their requested areas marked and ready for them.  I'm working from 12:30am to 9am Thursday.  I'm taking the rest of the day off.

SHC; Tks for sharing you day with us buddy ~shade  I believe I'd be packing a pistol instead of a rifle myself  ;)

Bud; Tks for the update on the Ranger.  Glad to hear its performing better than before.  You and the wife have a pleasant outing tomorrow.

Rodney; Tks for the update on the knee.  We're all glad you're able to be up and moving around.  I've heard stories of knee surgeries that people were laid up for a while.  We still have you in our daily prayers.  I brief the Principal daily on our status.  I told him today he could have his school back on the 31st of July.

As far as time off goes the team can take a day off or so if they have personal days to use.  If they don't they can still take off with out pay also. Here next week they'll all be reassigned new areas of the school.  I have to rotate them every year so they don't get complacent.  Once there they can work as fast / slow as they want to.  By then all they're doing is minor dusting and wiping down items etc.

To everyone have a good day tomorrow.  Hopefully it will be better than today.  Be safe in your travels also.

Mornin UB, it's been hot here! Heat index was 108 yesterday afternoon, but I'll take that over negative temps and snow any day of the week. Our county fair is going now, we went to one of the concerts last night and will go again tonight. Hopefully I'll get out on the water again this weekend, maybe run up the interstate a ways for some small mouth. If not there's another small lake that doesn't get hit too hard for large mouth, it was "renovated" a few years back so there's no really big ones in there yet.
Rodney I'm glad your knee is coming along, taker er easy.
Bud, now that the boat is up and runnin right hopefully you can concentrate on the bass! Get that early morning bite goin!
SHC, I reckon a fella might need to check his shorts after that...  :shocking:
Don you're workin too hard, them bass are callin! How's the boat ramps down there?
Ya'll have a good day!

Last day of fishing this week.  After we returned from the river, I unpacked the tackle from the boat and put the batteries on charge .  Cleaned the hull that had a few stains after 4 days on the river.  Finished it off with a quick coat of slick mist.  After the battery charge, put the travel cover on the boat and ran it back to the storage lot for the weekend.  I am sure it will go out again next week just not sure at this particular time.  I need to sleep in tomorrow morning just because I have been getting up for the past 4 days to go to the river.  Get up time as been 4:30 AM and that has robbed me of my much needed beauty sleep.  Tomorrow is lawn mowing day and just general maintenance items around the house.  I also have to mow the neighbors yard as their yard guy is on vacation for a few weeks.  It was nice of my wife to volunteer me for that task.  I demanded another peach pie for payment that she promises she will deliver tomorrow while I am mowing the lawn.  Seems like a fair trade to me.  Afer a very nice start of the day with some overcast and a bit cooler temps the weather got even this afternoon and climbed back to the triple digit mark.  Well at least first light fishing today the weather was really great.

Donald Garner

Greetings,

We have bright sunny skies all across Central Texas today  ~sun  Our forecasted temps were 76 / 95dgrs with 46% humidity.  With the heat index right now it feels like 102dgrs  ~sweat

Long night but it was nice and quiet at work.  The Advance Party for the Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps arrived at 1am.  I took them on a quick tour of our place and showed them the areas they had requested.  The Main Body (4) Tour buses full of High School Band Members, (1) Semi tractor trailer truck and the Mobile Kitchen all arrived at 2am.  Everyone got their stuff downloaded and it was off to get some rest.  I called it a day at 8:45am.  They have a performance at our High School Football Stadium this evening.  Once completed they'll pack up and move onto the next location.

My team completed cleaning the classrooms today.  Tomorrow we'll start cleaning the furniture and getting it placed back inside of the classrooms.  If all goes well we start stripping and waxing the 1st floor hallway Monday.  The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter  ~shade

Bud; I hear ya about those early morning rises.  Good for you on planning to sleep in there's nothing wrong with that.  That was nice of your wife to volunteer you to mow the neighbor's yard.  Hopefully it's not a huge yard.  Enjoy that peach pie  :food

Stren; You're getting some of that Hot Weather we're having down here in Texas  :surrender:  I'm with ya on having Hot weather verse Cold weather  ;)  You and the family enjoy the time together at the fair.
From what I've seen driving by Belton Lake most of the boat ramps are open.  The parking lots are full of trailers etc.  I haven't been to Stillhouse Lake this year yet but I'm sure most of theirs are open too now.

I drove down to Nolan Lake night before last to check up on that new road they constructed.  The road is nice and they were Hydroseeding the sides while I was checking it out.  There's no sign of any ramp construction being performed.  The lake looks really good lake level wise.  I really need to get out there but I just don't feel like being out there in this 100dgr plus weather  :'(

Rodney; How's the knee doing today?  Hope the rehab is coming along good.

I'm currently running the roads. Well, I was. I've come to rest in wonderful Lake Charles! Same hotel I used to stay at regularly, and man! The upgrades! Jacuzzi tub! Scented STUFF! I've only smelled this purty once before in my life!
French brothel, long story.
Oh I'm living it up! No more smoking rooms though. Oh well, tis the way of the world these days. Can't blame anyone for banning smoking, it freaking stinks. But by the time I get back to my third floor room from the smoking area outside, I want another one!

Dinner for tonight is at a nice place I've visited before, Macfarlan's Celtic Pub, and I've ordered a dish called "The Atomic Rooster". It's a chicken sammich with seasonings from hell. Jalapenos, sriracha, red pepper, etc.

It shouldn't be as bad as the other one they call "The B.A.B.E." (burning at both ends).

TGIF!!! TGIF!!! Don't stand by the exits at work, you'll be trampled in the rush to get on the weekend!!! lo lo ::) 76 headed to 89/95, humid, muggy, heat index triple digits today and tomorrow, possible boomers, if I had to be laid up now is the time. The knee is coming along, I took a walk yesterday, just around the block but it felt good, the pain level is getting lower by the day. Everything I've seen and read says recovery is anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks depending, I'm on schedule.
Bud, sounds like the fix did the trick with the 'rude, good deal. Hope you get some run time next week. I wake up anywhere between 3 and 4 most mornings, the down sideI'm usually in bed early, nothing I want to see on tv so I'm doing eyelid inspection. lo My favorite all time pie is lemon meringue, next would probably be pumpkin followed by banana cream and chocolate cream, of course there are others I won't turn down. lo lo
Stren, nothing wrong with some smallie hunting, of course starting to figure out a renovated lake, you may be able to find out where the big girls will hangout. Yep, knee is coming along, I'm fighting the temptation to hook up the boat. lo ::)
SHC, I'm with Donald, the heck with rules and regs I'd be packing, doesn't need to be big just handy, those moving duckweed clumps can be deadly.
Donald, the crew has it in high gear for sure, good deal, better than scrambling at the end to get it done!!! Yeah, I agree it's too hot to be out, when I launch the boat on days like this I'm usually done by noon, go home stow the gear, hook up the charger, have lunch, shower then hink about covering the boat, usually after dinner when it's starting to cool down. I don't leave any rod/reel outfits in the boat, they go under lock and key. I had everything stolen once, not fun.
Have a great weekend, be well!!!

Got both lawns mowed this morning but did not finish the trimming.  Had a breakdown on my trimmer so had to order a part.  At least everything was done by 9:30AM   The bad new is NO PEACH PIE !!.  The mrs not feeling good today but I know she will probably make it tomorrow.

After 4 straight days on the river it is kinda nice taking a break from it today.  Hopefully this heat wave will break a little bit and get a bit more back to normal.  Next time out on the river we are heading to another ramp about 15 miles south of here.  Want to get down to where the Elite guys did so well in the spring.  Not sure I will make it that far but at least I have two full tanks and ready to head that direction.

One thing I did not mention about yesterday's bass was although they were small there were very healthy looking.  Been concerned about overall marine health since the floods and pollution spills.  But everything I have caught this year indicates that the fishery is mostly healthy given the circumstances.  Our bass tend to be a bit darker color thanks to their environment and in my mind it just makes them look so good.  The same color bass exist also on the Cooper River.  I just love those almost black sides and tops.

Stren_g

Afternoon ya'll, nuther hot one today. We're supposed to have a front come through tomorrow and cool things off a bit. Hopefully I can get on the water early and capitalize. Still have yet to make a decision on which lake I'll go to.
Don, It does get a bit uncomfortable, but I've started to embrace the hottest parts of the day when bassin. Less folks on the water, and it may help narrow down water that holds fish. Now that the ramps are open I hope ya find time to get out there.
SHC sounds like my kind of sammich!
Rodney keep that knee a comin along and you'll be on your boat before ya know it!
Bud, I'm sure you'll get that pie! I'm more of a blackberry cobbler guy, with a bit of vanilla ice cream!
Ya'll have a good day!

Another busy day at school today.  Our guest have left and did a great job of cleaning up after themselves.  We started cleaning the 1st floor classroom furniture today.  By the end of the shift we had cleaned (18) of (25) classrooms.  We'll knock out the reminding (7) Monday morning.  Once completed with that task we'll start stripping the hallway floor and prepping for waxing.

Stren;  I concur with you on the mid day Bassing.  It's basically the same here not many people on the water fishing in the 100 (+) weather.   The other thing is too find the shade and there's usually a bass to be caught there.  We're almost done with Summer Clean and once I release the team back into their newly assigned areas my days will be easier.  I might actually feel like tackling that late afternoon bite  ~shade

Bud; I sure hate it when the equipment breaks down like that.  I had an issue with my gas power trimmer a couple months ago.  I had to make that trip to Walmart and pickup a new trimmer.  I hope the wife gets to feel better soon also.  Hope you have a better day on the water next trip out.  If you think about it take some pictures of those bass.  I like to see the different colors bass have.  Most of our largemouths are Green with some black.  The smallmouths are most brown with a little black mixed in.

Rodney; Tks for the update on knee keep the recovery plan going.  The Team is ready to get this Summer Cleaning done with and I can't blame them.  We're still ahead of schedule the light is getting brighter at the end of the tunnel.  We're just about done we still have (7) rooms to finish getting their furniture cleaned, the entire 1st floor hallway stripped and waxed, the East end hallway and my office stripped and waxed.  If things go right we'll be done with our Interior Summer Cleaning by Friday 26th.

When I fish during this type of weather its an early trip out and back by noon also.  I'll get the boat backed into its parking spot and throw the batteries on charge.  If I'm fishing out of the Stratos I'll get the trash and stuff out of the cooler and lock everything up.  I have locks on all my rod and storage boxes.  I also have (2) sets of Lock Bars installed.  Once the sun starts to set I'll go out and put the cover back on it.

If I'm fishing out my G3 I'll take all the rods and store them in the garage.  The electronics get disconnected and stored in the storage box in the box.  I have a custom made lockable storage box built that holds all by Plano Boxes, rain / cold weather gear bag.  Again when the sun goes down I'll go out and put the cover back on it.

I've been pretty fortune not to have had anything stolen.  My parking area is next to my garage and both gates are locked from the inside.  But you know the old saying if they want it they'll get it.  That's why we have insurance on everything.

Well guys you all have a relaxing evening.  Tomorrow is another day.
