The bait monkey talked me into starting to throw glide baits and big swimbaits.  I already throw the normal size ones on an LSCR.

So, I pulled the trigger on a 13 Fishing Muse Black 7'9 and paired it with an old school Zillion 100 HSA.

First thoughts are:  Rod is rated for 2-4 ounces.  The glide bait I was throwing was around 1.5 ounces so a bit light, but I think the rating is a bit undepowered IMO.  Meaning, this rod would easily handle 4 oz swimbaits.

Rod is very well constructed, nice finish and a pretty cool idea where to put a giant hook.  Rod will DEFINITELY chuck a bait, not doubt about that.  I had braid on the 100 HSA, so I went with that because it was already spooled up and the reel was on the bench.  Rod handle, while EVA, is definitely better EVA than i expected, and has a nice tapered handle, plus a handle above the reel seat.

Some pics of the rod out of the tube from TW, and in action.  Caught a nice fat chunk after about an hour.  It was an awesome bite.  The bass literally tried to kill that glide bait.

I can alreay tell you that there will be many more large baits thrown on this rod.  Considering a tatula 150 or the Zillion HD or Coastal for main reel duty.

That's a nice set up. The Muse black is a great rod.. I'm trying the big glide bait / swim bait deal myself.

what gear ratio on the Tranx?  Also, why such a deep spool?

I hear differing opinions on this. Curious what your thoughts were

I have the 5.8:1. Really, the spool isn't as deep as I would have thought either. I'd guess it holds around 130 yds. of 20 lb. flouro.
The Tranx looks big but when its on the rod it doesn't feel much bigger than a 200 size Curado.
It will heave a Hudd 68 or S waver a mile.

Another thing to mention.. The 5.8 still has a IPT of 30 inches.

Heading out tomorrow on G with just a glide bait, frog and spook setup in the morning.

disclaimer:  I was into Powells before I knew about Dobyns.  there's a Dobyns for ever app.

I toss my River2Sea S-waver 168's on a Powell Max 765.  Love it.

I haven't thrown it enough yet.   However I will say it has a really really fast tip.  Probably not a braid only setup.

my primary baits I toss are the R2S Swaver 168, the 6 inch bull shad and the gantarel jr.  usually on braid with a 10 foot or so flouro leader.  seems to work for me.  as far as the casting anyway!   lo
the swavers and gantarels are on the MH rods.  I step up to an 8 foot heavy for the bull shad (and the spro rat!).

still working on how to get the consistent bite.

as for swimbaits, I'm throwing some plastic 'shoes' in about the 6 inch size on either 3/8 or 3/4 ounce 'heads' depending on depth and current.

they're fun baits to toss around.  even better to reel back with a fish on the end.  the fun only increases with the size of the prize.

Yessir so one of the reasons I haven't passed judgement on it is that I've only thrown one type of glide on it. Picked up some SWavers and hudds to further test the capabilities

messed around with the setup the other day with some Swavers and a hudd.  Tip is a bit too fast IMO but.....itll chuck a bait a country mile!!

Still looking at reels -- considering the Tat 150 or Coastal 200.  Or maybe a 200 B with a larger handle

Made a reel decision.  Went with the JDM tatula HD custom. 150 spool and gold accents.

As soon as it gets here I'll post a pic.

I'd be interested in hearing how you like the MB. Is it in the Orochi series ?

Yessir. I'll definitely report back.  So far the rod is very very balanced and just feels right.

Rating is from 2-8. Not sure how that's going to work out as it seems like a big range but I also don't have anything over about 5-6 ounces.   Most are in the 1.5 - 2 range

I use the Leviathan Levante 2019 series, paired up with the Tatula 200 and love that combo. I throw mostly treble hook swimbaits, like glides, and wakes.
