Has anyone heard about these (other than from REEL TEST on Youtube)? They are a Shimano SLX only instead of the centrifugal pin style braking system they have a dial adjust on the side with the SVS Infinity brakes. I searched and you can find them on eBay for $120 shipped from Osaka, Japan. I mean for $20 more than the original SLX do you think the SVS braking system is that much of an upgrade over the centrifugal style?
The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!

No matter how much we know about fishing there is always more to learn!

Looks like they put the SVS Infinity system into the SLX. I know they were gonna do that with the SLX MGL. Either way, the SLX and the SLX XT are centrifugal style brakes, just the XT has an adjustable brake pipe. I have no issues with casting on the SLX, so for me, its not gonna sway me.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

I guess what REEL TEST said is it would allow you to cover water faster because you could easily adjust the brakes on the outside when changing baits and not have to worry about popping open the cover and adjusting the pins.

That dude is a joke anyways. But, I guess if its that hard to pop the side and click a pin, then you might as well just give up on life.  lo

~roflmao. I hear you! I was just basically wanting to know from people more knowledgeable than myself if A.) the SVS is worth $20 more and B.) is it worth ordering and waiting from Japan.

Here is what I would buy if I was going to Japan.

With the MGL spool, might be worth the upgrade. Though, I have no issues with light baits on the SLX myself.

According to dingleberry/reel test , he says that the SLX XT has one more bearing than the SLX. But since he's not mechanically inclined or knows how to read a schematic, he didn't know where that bearings was..If it's on the main shaft above the AR bearing that would be sweet.

I ended up going with the SLX 6.3:1. I had a coupon code at Amazon.com for $60 so I only paid $40 for the reel :).

That's a great deal. You cant beat that with a stick. If you ever get a bug up your butt and want to really transform that thing, give me a shout. It's a really impressive reel once tuned.

If popping the cover is that much trouble, he should have increased spool tension a bit.   :)

However, I will admit that I prefer to add more braking rather than increasing spool tension.  I don't feel I lose that much by taking 33.5 seconds to pop the cover and make an adjustment.  Of course I only fish for pleasure.   ;D
