Any other hockey nuts on UB? Nothing better than playoff hockey.

I grew up near Chicago and have been a Blackhawks fan since I was 7. Even have a Hawks tattoo. I moved to Raleigh, NC almost 6 years ago and have developed numerous connections to the Carolina Hurricanes organization and players, all by chance really. Heck of a game last night and it's awesome to have playoff hockey local again.

Crazy playoffs so far. More overtime games in the first round than there were in all 4 rounds last year. And all division winners eliminated in the first round for the first time in major North American sports history.

Congrats on the series win last night, ya "bunch of jerks"!  ;D such a great story for the NHL.

I'm a big Leafs fan, born and raised in Toronto, and here we are again, yet another heart breaking loss to the Bs. I won't watch another game this year. Shifting my focus to the Raptors 2nd rd series and the debut of Vlad Guerrero Jr. on the Blue Jays.

I'm rooting for the Hurricanes, it's nice to finally see that arena packed with fans. I'd hate to see NYI or Bruins in the final.

I started really enjoying hockey when I was stationed at the yards in Philly. The Broad Street Bullies were in the finals that year with the young rookie Hextall in goal, got playoff tickets to a few games dirt cheap from the base. Watched an awesome late comeback game 6 win at home to even the series, but they ended up losing in there final game. I would watch it casually on TV, but there is nothing like being at the rink.

I used to play. Peewee leagues all the way through high school. Lost interest about 10 years ago in watching it though.

Looks like my Boston Bruins are moving on to the next round this season so I may have to start watching again.

Go Blues!  I've been a fan and ticket holder since the team entered the league.  It's tough rooting for a team that in 50 yrs. has never won the cup. This could be their year.

Before I moved down here I was one of those people who didn't think hockey belonged in the south. I didn't think it was a fitting market. I was shocked at the amount of hockey players and number of rinks down here. I thought I'd have to drive quite a ways to find somewhere to skate, and that wasn't the case. I've been pleasantly surprised with the fan base here, especially now that the Canes are relevant again the last couple years. Very exciting

Bruins and Blues fans.......shame. Haha.
(Still a diehard Hawks fan)

Trust me, us Leafs fans can relate. We get reminded on the daily that it's been 52 years since the last cup, lots and lots of mismanagement of a team with incredible history. We're getting there with the young talent we have up front, just need to acquire some solid defencemen.

I think it's great they've has done a good job expanding the league but I think there's 1 or 2 too many southern teams in the US. I think Florida is going to turn the corner hiring Joel Q and freeing up cap space for the offseason but man has that franchise struggled to put butts in seats, same goes for Arizona but I'd argue the latter has less to look forward to. Not in a 100 years would I have thought that Nashville would be a hockey market, but they soak it up and support their team very well.

Back to the Canes, this playoff run is great for them after many years since the last cup of struggling to ice a good team and fill seats. I'm sure Dundon is loving it, considering he's lost millions on that failed football league.

my son is a big hawks fan.  and you're right:  play off hockey is just a different level.  I might go so far as to say that STanley Cup hockey is best pro sports play off event of the year.  clearly head and shoulders over NBA, World Series.  we could argue NFL.

spent 15 years at rinks with youth hockey with kids.  what a way to learn the sport and grow the love.

as for me?  was sad to see the Jets not make it through.  and my son and I always say:  we hope one of these days a Canadian team gets that cup back up north.  Theyd love that in Canada!

finally:  sorry (or Soh-rry eh), but ice ain't ice in the south.

I think you can add the Islanders to this group pretty soon. Canes just keep finding ways to win. Feels great to have a horse in the race again

Brandon K there is a lot to be proud of with that team. Holding the Isles in check like that and with a heck of an input from McIlhenny (leaf fans cry now), they look pretty tough to beat. They remind me of the 2002 team that beat the leafs in the Eastern Conference final and you can bet that that is on Rod Brind'amour's mind. I have watched each game and it has been absolutely great hockey to watch! Good luck the rest of the way.
