Hey I'm pretty new to fishing and I have zero experience fishing this time of year. I'm going to have a week vacation in March and was hoping to get out on the river to catch some smallies. I have a trailer in Tionesta. Am I gonna be wasting my time? Where are the fish gonna be?(deep vs shallow vs cover etc etc) what lures should I throw? Should I fish my usual stretch of river or should I try out a new spot considering the time of year? And where?

Sorry for all the questions. I just need to know where to go/what to do to get some right lines! I MISS SUMMER

Early spring is a tough time on the Allegheny. Find deep water near rocky shoals. But the river in the spring is risky with floating debris.

Best lures are rapalas, cranks, and jigs.

Early spring usually has dirty water in the lower sections of the river. I would fish mostly north of Lock 9.

Top lures are #7 and #9 rapalas, Bandit cranks in natural and chartreuse colors, tubes, and hula grubs.

Spring is the most exciting as the big girls move shallow.

I use Tiny Torpedoes, Hula grubs, tubes, rattle traps, and 1/4 oz Roostertails.

Summer is time to hit the Locks. Most fish head for the Locks and you will find large schools.

Jerkbaits, topwaters, and spinnerbaits are used to find the fish. hen when the bite slows down ned rigs, flukes, and tubes will get those extra bites.

Fall will be good at dams but the schools of fish will move with the bait. North of Lock 9 is a great time to focus on the craw bite. South of Lock 9 is a baitfish bite.

All of the lures used the rest of the year and the Whopper Plopper 90.

Best of luck.

Wow this has been super helpful. My trailer is located on holeman island, which is way north of lock 9. I had decent success there in the summer with a buzz bait, spinner bait, and rooster tail. I'm hoping that's far enough north to be pretty clear. I guess I'll see in a few weeks! March 11th can't come any quicker! I'll keep you updated on how I do. Seriously thank you so much for the tips. I've only been taking bass fishing seriously since June and I'm trying to learn everything I can to improve myself. Gonna be stopping at the library tonight to look for some books!

I would expect very dirty water if the river is even safe enough to fish. Break out those colorado bladed spinnerbaits and chartruese squarebills.

Another tip is the fluke is excellent all year. And Don't be afraid to throw pink and chartreuse ones.
