Getting to be that time of year again.

This year will be different for me as I leased 80 acres to start a Hunt Club with my SIL. Something to pass along the Hunting Heritage that I grew up doing.

We called it New Heritage Hunt Club.

It is located in the Florida Panhandle and is made up of Planted Pines and Cypress Swamp.

So far I have started some Food Plots by spreading Lime to balance the PH and discing it in.

The weekend of the 22nd will be up there seeding the plots with a mixture of things from Whitetail Insitute. Imperial Clover, No Plow, Winter Greens, and Beets & Greens.

Should give us both early and late season attraction. Archery starts Oct 20 and Gun starts Dec then runs thru Feb.

Some pics of the Sportsman getting ready to go to work and some plot pics. I bought a Ground Hog Max ATV Disc to break up the ground and it does great.

A major storm system had just passed through the day I got there and the ground was soaked in some places making discing tough. Other areas it had dried out and came out great. Will follow up with more pics as the plots come along.

Looks like a great spot for deer hunting Fred. You going to hunt for a blind or a tree stand?

Nice. Get you something out there that will stop them cold in their tracks. I hunt some narrow lanes and man its challenge sometimes. I have some good bucks on my camera near my bow stand. Hopefully I can stick one early and then I can work on my rifle stand for a bigger buck. It would be awesome to have two deer down by mid October then I could get back to fishing.  ;D Last year the loggers messed me up big time but was able to get a an arrow in a doe and dropped a small buck during primitive season before the screwed me all up. Hopefully I'll have a better season this year. I might have to get Susie out there to put some meat in the freezer. Her record on the stand is pretty impressive.

I would for sure put Susie out there then so y'all could fill your freezer up sooner and you could get back to fishing. ;D

Lip the former lease owners left a nice blind and I am setting up another that I have. I also have two tree stands I am putting up. A Single man and a Double man ladder stands.

There are 2-3 other sites we plan to developed time goes on. My SIL fell in love with the bottom so I told him he could do whatever he wanted there. He had plans for a box blind and a tri-pod. I also plan to replace my small blind with a tri-pod to be able to see more area, and another tri-pod where a water source is.

Took the pup out yesterday to finalize my 2nd stand. Gonna be her first year bird chasing, but by the way she reacts to deer blood at home I am thinking she might be a hell of a tracker!

DB them some nice looking spots hope you can get a deer from them. She might become a great tracker.  ~bb

DB looks like you've got a great area there to hunt.

I had dogs that may have made great blood trailers but where I was raised they shot dogs that trailed deer. Funny how much different it is here in the south! Here a good Deer Dog is worth it's weight in Gold.

I see that style of hunting tradition dying out though as lands become smaller and smaller by growth. In the old days you could let the dogs run, now lots of folks don't want dogs on their land.

I've tried the Dog style and it's not for me.

Having a good Blood Trailer is a whole different thing. Many times I would of loved to have a Blood Trailer to help me find a deer that otherwise got lost.

Good LUck with the upcoming season.

Looks like some nice woods. Like Lip said, looks like they have everything they need there.

DBrooke

Thanks, the drop down gun rest will have camo netting on it to cover my legs. We don't have rifle hunting here and I don't have a shotgun permit for this location so it'll be bow or crossbow. With my work schedule I think I'll be out with both early season but as work gets busier (oil refinery in the winter) I'm gonna harvest the first one I can to fill the freezer, even if I have to use the crossbow.

If my SUV ever gets done (AC Compressor blew up, great timing) I plan to load and head up there today.

Tomorrow's plan is to Fert/Disc/Drag/Seed at least 3 of the sites and maybe 4. I'd like to get them all done, but got to be realistic and not going to go crazy and overheat myself until I puke like last time.

Like the Wife said, If I got to make another Trip- I got to make another Trip.

Want it all done by the end of next weekend though, no matter what.

Listen to the Mrs and if you have to make two trips you have to make two trips.  ;D

Well I had enough time by working all I could Saturday and not leaving until 4:30 pm Sunday to get 6 food plots done (2 at each stand site), and set one of the ladder stands and put my small blind up.

How they looked before fertilizer and discing.

How I dragged them after discing before seeding.

How several looked after I was done.

Before

After

Some deer I had on cameras. Starting to look good. Does just dropped their fawns in late August/ early September.

And what's a Camp without a Campfire Pit?

Lipripper

Looks good Fred and some nice looking deer are using that area. You should be able to get some meat for your freezer out of there. ~c~ ~c~

Got up to check the cams, Hunt a bit, and see if the Hurricane hurt us.

We did get some damage but not a lot. What we have the SIL and I plan to go clean up this weekend.

I got some good pics on the cams. Now to see one while hunting.

The small blind in some of the pics I tried to hunt out of. Yeah not happening. Supposed to be a One Man Blind, more like One Small Kid Blind. This old man back can't take sitting hunched over like that.

I am replacing it with a Tripod Stand. The trees are way to small for a ladder stand.

Lipripper

Fred you got some nice looking Deer in that area.  ~c~ Now if they just show up at the time your hunting it.

Back from a Work Weekend at the property. We got all the down trees cut up and our two stands set up.

Got a new pic of one of the big boys we are calling Loppy due to his left side ear being lopped off about half way out. Maybe a coyote got him when he was younger.

Speaking of coyotes we put a mandatory See One Kill One on them. There is a big Pack that howl there at night and we want them gone. They have been as close as 150 yards from us at night.

Pics of Loppy and my new stand. The blind around the Stand makes it blend in pretty good.

I just noticed that you said your rifle season runs December through February. That's insane!

Ours here in PA lasts for two weeks, and we can't hunt on Sundays.
