I owed Roberto another trip, since we had battery problems last time.  We ran east from the ramps to the dead end and fished back to the west.  We both started with frogs early, Roberto with a hollow body, and me with a swim frog through the pads.  We had no takers!  Switched to a fluke and caught bass in the pads.  Caught several nice bass, and then lost several heavy weights in the thick pad fields.  Don't know what they were since I was rapped in the stems.
We both went to senko's and catch more in the pad fields, and under the bridge.  I caught a nice 4 pounder on the stick-o.  There were 4 other boats out there in the same area.  We left as the rains rolled into the area.  We finished with 11 bass boated, and some lost in the weeds.  It was a fun day fishing with Roberto.  Pics will follow. ~c~

That's awesome to hear George. Happy to hear Roberto was able to fish with you again.  ~c~

When you say water levels are normal, are they normally high for this time of year?

SFL BassHunter

Congrats on finding fish out there. Happy to hear you took Roberto back out to make up for the snaffu last time lol. Good to know there are big fish hanging around the canals.

Fishing those pad fields is tough, those fish love to houdini you in there. This is where braid has it's strengths. You can cut through the stems many times with that braid and you can overpower a fish and get them up and out where with a mono or fluoro you are at the mercy of the fish in many instances.

Its normal for the rainy season.  I've seen it a lot higher over the years.  I did just read that our Governor just ordered water to be released south from Okeechobee, in lieu of releasing east and west.  So water will be going up soon my friends. ^-^

Thanks again for the trip George. Always a pleasure. I was really hoping for one frog bite since I haven't had 1 all July but next time

Today it was a day of plastics. It has been so long since I caught anything because my usual spot is tough now.
Here's some of the catches for the day.

While on the ride up to the canal, we though there wasn't anyone out there. When we unloaded, there were 2 other boats in the same canal. There was still enough space to fish and another boat showed up. George had the thought that maybe this is a hotspot now. After conversing with other anglers, we figured it wasn't. I think everyone just fished that area to have the bridge as an option if it got bad.

As it got closer to noon, the fishing got tough. I thought, I can practice punching since I don't usually have the opportunity. I was launching and hitting the spots at a good pace. Until I got snagged on something. I thought it felt like a fish bite but wasn't sure. I yanked my rod but broke off. I was thinking , oh well, lost my bait and then a largemouth jumps out of the exact spot trying to shake something out. Yes, it was a fish that I had, and a good one too

Overall, it was a great day out. Thank you again George for hosting

This has been the first summer in a long while where the glades has been producing fish. Now that's going to change. But it may not be that bad. The Lake isn't crazy high this summer either. The tropics have been quiet so far and tropical systems have not come around and dump loads of rain in the area. Yet...  lo

Very happy for you Roberto. Glad you got into some fish. Looks like early morning and late afternoon seems to be the pattern. But, its glades and its always like that for me.

Thanks for the report guys. Thanks for sharing those pics Roberto!

Man they are going to dump water down here? Great...they can F up the everglades now they they've killed off the fish population all the way out to the ocean on the east and west side with that red tide.

Oh... and Roberto. In the glades, you have to try different approaches and specific cover sometimes to coax that frog bite. That takes a little while to establish. Stick with it though, your time will come.  ~beer~

Thanks for posting the pictures  Robert and sorry you lost that nice fish and sounds like he was laughing at you when he jumped up to show you how big he was.  lo lo

Just remember the water they are releasing is polluted water, since they didn't build the holding ponds they said they would to clean it up.  Big sugar has reneged on what they originally said they would do.  So we pump garbage water into the glades, can't be good!
