So, what kinds of stuff do ya'll take that is organic, etc. and WORKS for you? And what do you take it/them for? I hate prescription drugs, so I am hugely interested in Voo Doo and Black Magic medicine. Well, you know. Thanks a bunch.

I don't have a lot of them but gargling with salt water fixes a lot from a sore throat to canker sores to catching a cold. Just stings for some for some of the things it fixes :surrender:

I'm with you Dale. Hate prescription drugs and for me I especially hate pain meds. I can't tolerate most of them anyway.

As for homeopathic approaches one thing I can attest to is a cure for stomach bugs, chronic diarrhea and those types of issues. Take a cup of tea (In my case either green tea or plain old Lipton work best) and crush up an entire clove of garlic in it. Mix it up well and drink it down without stopping.

You will either throw up, poop your brains out or both for four hours or so but it works. My brother turned me on to this over 30 years ago and it's never failed me yet.

I have heard of a lot of things that have been made from the aloe vera plant. I know for a fact I keep a plant around for the sap to put on burns and small cuts. Mint leaves are also good for a lot of different things. We have a big mint plant outside that we use for upset stomachs.

My SIL makes a smoothie with aloe in it and she no longer has to take her meds for COPD. She says you have to be careful with how much you put in because ingesting too much at once can actually kill you but if done right it works wonders.  :-*

I know they put it in a lot of stuff. That's the thing with using this plant stuff you have to know how much is to much to avoid using too much of it.

My issues are orthopedic, after a surgery I may have to take vicodin or oxy for a time and Ibuprofen is needed but then it's ice and heat. 20 minutes on then 40 off, once an hour is fine. Heat helps with increased blood flow. The other items are a Tens unit, like the ones you see advertised by sports legends are very good and cheap, they are powered by a 2032 battery and those last quite a few times before being replaced, you can use them with heat or ice. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! I also have a Tens/Stim unit I bought off the web, I had a therapist show me how to use it, the instructions sucked!!! The best part about these 4 things is that you aren't ingesting anything, I use them while I'm watching tv or am on my laptop, in fact I'm on ice right now.
A tip for ice, you can find some decent sized gel units at drug stores, just keep them in the freezer till needed. Use a towel or some piece of cloth between the skin and the ice pack.

I know Ice is to reduce swelling and heat to increase blood flow to speed up healing (more oxygen to the area).

My question is how to you know which to use? Which is better when?

Ice to reduce swelling and heat to help healing and range of motion. I can only use ice as heat increases my pain and inflammation.

When I'm not sure I start with ice then heat, a shotgun approach. Generally in the morning I'll go with heat to start. With my shoulders and knees when the pain is weather related it's ice, at least at first because  pain involves inflammation, when it's finally calmed down I'll turn to heat to keep the blood flowing. If I'm headed to the gym or speed walk it's heat to help loosen things up.
I don't have bit figured out 100% but I'm close.

My dad and uncles worked in the steel mills which led to lots of bursitis. Steel workers swore that Certo, a plant pectin used in jelly and jam, cured them of bursitis. They also used Apple Cider vinegar for pain relief.

I do a shot of Bragg's Raw Apple Cider vinegar every day. Eliminates acid reflux and seems to have helped reduce my cholesterol quite a bit. Actually quit taking my Lipitor all together and had the best numbers I ever had.

Externally, raw vinegar is used to remove warts, skin tags, and helps heal poison oak rash.

For about the past 35 years, I've been taking a Centrum, Zinc, Tumeric, Ginseng, and a few other herbs and minerals. I think it makes a difference but, I don't think anyone can start taking supplements and expect to see the benefits in a month or two. It requires years.
