I always figured a brush hog was a punching bait, and in New England there ain't much of that, so I never used one. Recently I read about dragging it along the bottom. How do you guys use them?

Oh, luvs me some brushhogs. A simple T-rig and bullet weight will do some damage, as light a weight as possible. Keep an eye on the line as it sinks, they like it on the fall or when it hits bottom, let it sit for a couple beats, tighten your line slowly so you can feel or see if they might have it, then give her a hop and/or twitch. I usually fish the baby brush hog near vegetation, and the bigger one on weed edges, laydowns, and more open water.

Very versatile baits.  You can even use them as trailers.

Try 'em on a Carolina Rig Stan. Flip 'em and pitch 'em anywhere and they skip up under trees and docks really well too.

I almost never use the full sized brush hogs, but I love the baby brush hogs. I fish mine on a 'Free Rig', which is similar to a Texas Rig. I will pitch them to cover like over hanging bushes etc., then either drag them, or hop them along the bottom back to the boat.

I also like to fish the tiny brush hogs on a drop shot.

I used to fish Brush hogs a lot... still have a good supply. I mostly T-rigged and fished them in cover. Brush hogs and Mag Worms used to be make up a good portion of my tackle.

I don't fish with them a lot but I do have my share of them in the boat.  I mostly Texas Rig'm with the sinker pegged.  I general flip and pitch them into nasty looking places just I do with jigs and other creature baits.

T Rigged green pumpkin baby brush hog on a 3/0 EWG hook is on of my go to baits.  Incredible action, catches a ton of fish.  Throw it in any cover and it will get hit.

Here is some good info on baby brush hogs from Matt Allen at Tactical Bassin. He explains technique and rigging, points out that there is a top and a bottom to the bait, and shows you how to figure that out.
