Biffle bug and hardhead

The thing looks good but I'm not having much luck with it so far. Anybody use this or similar with success. It looks like a jig to me but they say to fish it fast and I keep it moving on the bottom. Maybe put a different trailer on the hard head?

I use the Rage bug on a swing head a lot but there's nothing wrong with the Larew.
I fish it as slow as I can but keep it moving along the bottom or drag it like a jig.
Like any bait, sometimes they want it sometimes they don't.

Just a jig head that swivels, actually they act just like a Jika rig.

Experiment with the speed, if fast isn't working try medium or slow, they're not a search bait.

OK, where and how I'VE used them.....with the hardhead jig.
I got them like 5 years ago specifically for fishing for Smallies on a River that had basically a hard bottom, packed dirt and gravel with some larger rocks boulders thrown into the mix.
Moving current so I wanted/used the 5/16 oz 4/0 hook size. (have a size larger 1OZ and smaller 3/16th oz)
Worked great and had good success with it.
Smallies loved it.

After the original supply of the plastics ran out (I bought as a package deal) I used craw plastics as a trailer, basically because I don't flip much and as a rule don't use a lot of Beaver Style Baits.

As with anything in Bass Fishing, after Larew and Biffle had success selling the bait......the knockoffs and copies flooded the market.
So now you can get a swinging football style jig from a lot of places and manufactures and beavers style plastics which allow rattle insertion and or scent insertion from a few.
(I don't use rattles so never tried it...tried using scent.....didn't hurt but really didn't help noticeably more...but again, I was fishing moving current and rivers and streams/creeks.

Now the directly answer the original post........yes, before you give up on the hardhead, try different trailers AND presentations!!!!

Personally 'floating style craws' like Zmann's and such would be the most idealetic trailer trade off .

AND X-Zone's Muscule Back Craws ARE A PERFECT MATCH FOR THE HARDHEAD!!!!!!!
Their 'claws float up' and with a swinging jig head the action of this trailer should be UNREAL!

And a more Traditional Beaver Style....BUT WITH FLOATING APPENDAGES and probably would work even BETTER than a Biffle Bug!!!!

Hope this helps those of you who weren't familar with the bait and more IMPORTANTLY.....

It actually CAN be a good search bait in/with the right conditions.
You can fish it ANYWHERE you'd use a Carolina Rig (which many use as a search bait technique) and I actually CASTED and retrieved it on hard bottom waters....with some pauses intermingled in constantly  having the jig on the move.

Could even try it as a Football Style Swim Jig when vegetation isn't your challenge BUT rocks/boulders are.

Tossed over a point bringing it UP one side and DOWN the other side, searching for fish could also work well. (similar to how A LOT of anglers use a Carolina Rig.....but the hardhead is a lot simplier to use/tie up than a Carolina Rig and CASTS much easier.

Again, just some ideas and thoughts from a guy who's not the 'Sharpest Hook' in the Tackle Box!

Jika rig, pronounced Zeeka, a casting weight with a split ring through the loop then through the eye of a hook that fits the bait you're using. It originated in Japan, you can buy them ready made or make them you're self.

I was using that jig head with a swimbait at Table Rock. Fished slowly, drug or hopped on the bottom was a productive technique.
That was pre spawn and the bass were staging up.
