Swim jig trailer

First off, I don't like to put a trailer on a swim jig. I thought it resembled a bait fish as it is. Once again, I learned something new after years of fishing this jig. I thought the bass would be eating the jig but had no strikes after fishing for a while. I got to thinking what kind of trailer would be best. A single tail grub came to mind but I wanted something with more action. I looked down and saw my jigworm rod on deck. Lots of action in a finesse worm. So, I threaded on a Zoom 4" finesse worm to the jig. Talk about action! Every start and stop of the jig created a pulse in the trailer. It changed my swim jig into a real weapon in my war on bass. Immediately, bass started eating it. I even caught a few bedding bass on the jig. Just passing this along for you folks who use a jig.

Something to try!! I use Zoom Swimming Chunks, lot of action.

Sounds like something to try up here too.  I usually use the Keitech Impact Fat.  I've done pretty good with that combo.  Always have one tied on one rod.  Thanks for the tip.

I use a Zoom zcraw, rigged sideways, and sometimes I dye the tail. Adds the height to the jig that looks more similar to bream shape

I use trailers. Changes the buoyancy/fall rate of the jig- let's you fish it slower at any given depth. Adds a little "meat" for a soft-striking fish too.  Maybe makes 'em hold onto it longer. Color contrasts like Brandon's above work for me (and the fish) too. Great topic!

Zoom Fat Albert grub (or any beefy grub for that matter) also looks fantastic in the water in my opinion.

On casting jigs, I always use a trailer. On swim jigs, I seldom use a trailer. Personal preference on my part. I often use a swim jig where in the past I used a spinnerbait.

When I fish a Swim Jig I always have some type of trailer on them.  Here recently I've started fishing the Swim Jig in places I used to fish with Spinnerbaits.  Below are the Swim Jigs I'm presently using.
Both are Strike King 3/8 oz Hack Attack "woops"y Shad Jigs.  One is trimmed with a Sweet Beaver and the other has a small paddle tail Swimbait.

The top bait is one I fish with here on Belton and Stillhouse Lakes.

The bottom bait is the one I fished with on Toledo Bend (UBCS Event)  in the Hay Grass

Donald, i see you trim your weed guards way back. Do you notice more hangups with them that short or do you just trim swimming jigs that much for open water?

I've never tried a finesse worm as a trailer. That's an interesting idea. I'm like Don and use a swim bait, beaver or Zoom twin tail trailer depending on the action that I want. I'll use the beaver when I want or more subtle action, a swimbait when I want a little thump, and the twin tail seams to work well for me in most situations.. I match the color to the jig.

I just trim them back for fishing open water,  dead reed stalks, standing timber and the submerged boulders we have here on Belton and Stillhouse.

I like a fat albert. The tail waggles in slo mo better than other stuff I've tried.

Skinny Dipper if im trying to have a large profile. After the fry get out and grown a little I will go to a smaller version of the same bait. That paddle tail is the leading cause of hunger pains in Largemouth Bass =)
