have NO problem flipping into the heart of brush piles with 12# flouro when fishing for LMB that can push 5 lbs.  6 pounders being much more rare.  have done it with 10#  and on medium rods.

favorite technique is to drop a yamamoto fat IKA rigged backwards and/or a 3.5"tube bait.

IF I am ANAL and check my line for knicks, condition BEFORE I toss the bait in, I have YET to lose a fish.
but my line better be in primo condition.

IF I am LAZY and not hyper focus\ed on line integrity, sure, I can lose fish.

too often, the thought process is not clearly followed.  heavier lines just mean more forgiveness in the system.  IF I were a tournament guy and also wanted to SAVE TIME by not having to check my line as often, then yeah, I'd upsize the line strength.

ultralight line for me is anything under 10.,   10 is my all around preferred.  flouro, mono, on baitcasting.

that's a NORTHERN thing.  No self-respecting FLORIDA guy would agree.  and most TEXANS will pitch a fit too.  But it can be done.

PENNSYLVANIA?  really?

;D
(contentious by design BUT in a jesting spirit)

It's about checking your line and learning to keep a steady pull on the line. Use 6 lb flouro on a dropshot around docks and pull 5 lb plus fish out, you learn patience or lose big fish.

Anal, better to start a new thread than reply with one long one. It will be titled, Ya really thing bass think about what a lure is as the primary reason it strikes it? It disputes why fish strike lures.

Thank ya'll. All these NEW techniques, so little time.

all just variations on the jig/eel?  aren't they OT?  (old timer used with respect sir, and as a way to differentiate us pups who don't dive too deep into the history of the sport - which goes WAY deeper than 'who' was a pro back in the day).

once thought I was so very smart, figured out that a glass bead ahead of my Horny toad was a critical part of it's success (slick in water, sheds weeds, helps hook move in the fish's mouth and get set).  but in talking to folks and reading up (google IS your friend), that idea was not new.  been around a while.

coldfront, Ribbits when they first came out had a 'bead' in the package with them! .....soooooooo......I've always used a bead in front......and when not, due to lossing frog to a pike and not having an extra bead to add....it definitly caught more grass and didn't slide as well when coming from clear water to vegetated water.

Guess I may have to start working on next years Tip Contest early?  ~roflmao

I LIKE IT!!!!!  ~c~

I WILL DEFINITLY TRY IT!

Probably use an oval split ring like I do on my Poppers and cranks.

THANKS for the idea!

There's very little that is really brand new. Us "OT's" have that figured out. As long as ya'll are havin' fun, that's really all that matters.
