If you fish the deep channel shad schools this summer and a grub or jigging spoon isn't working, give this a try. Tie on a heavy Carolina rig. On a 3 ft. leader, tie on a crank bait. Make a long cast to the forage school and let the C-rig take the crank bait to the desired depth. Crank it in quick enough for the crank to swim at the desired depth. Sometimes they like a faster horizontal moving bait. I can guarantee you will be the only angler using this at LOZ.

Thanks Wiz... done this before using a Rogue. It was a Beaver Lake Striper thang, and I saw a guy catch two five-pounders back-back one time in 1985. I tried it two or three times on LOZ without much luck (didn't give it enough time and/or the right areas I'm sure).

Then one day we were runnin' down the main channel on the Sac side of Stockton, when about an acre and-a-half of bass started schooling in over eighty feet of water. We could catch 'em on anything when they were bustin' on top, but when the shad moved deeper (and the fish were still schoolin' them) it was a bust. Until I remembered this rig. I had exactly ONE Rogue in the boat- I used it and when I started puttin' them in the boat my buddy tried it with a shad rap, and proceeded to whoop me me pretty good. They LOVED that shad rap.

Bet your right- I (we) would be the only ones to try it on LOZ. I can see it being a tactic for suspended dock fish, too. Thank you sir!

yes sir.  when i always harp on fishing the correct depth at the correct speed to trigger strikes, there is vertical speed or horizontal speed.  that is a true key to determine while you are fishing.  is horizontal movement or vertical movement triggering bites.

also, you have to figure out if the bass are looking up or looking down.  successfully catching bass is a very mental game.

I've read about this technique for cranks jerks but haven't tried, I'm thinking since I probably will never fish LOZ I might have to try it here.

It is a very good advice. I hope to sell very well. I want to be rich.
