I seldom drop shot with light line and finesse baits. I do use the technique for trophy bass. To power drop shot all you have to do is upgrade to a bait caster, heavier line, larger bait and a heavier weight. I drop shot with a 7' med/heavy rod, 14-20 lb line, heavy hook and a 3/8-1/2 oz weight. The same technique is used--keeping the bait deep but off the bottom. Finesse shotting will produce a smaller average weight of bass than power shotting. If you use finesse techniques and are catching small bass, try upgrading in the same area for larger bass.

As deep as can be seen and felt. Remember, it has vibration when you shake it. Draw the bass in, it sees the bait, you catch the bass. Simple! I will use this down to 30 ft.. If I've been fishing, say a grub a foot or two off the bottom and catching small keepers, I'll try this over sized drop shot technique. Another thing you can do with this is snap it up like you would a jig in hot weather.

It's a technique I use for fishing grass, heavy grass. It doesn't take as much weight and the fish don't see a bait worked up and down without a weight attached often, it works, mostly I use something like a Dinger or Sticko.

I actually fish a drop a LOT here in Korea, mostly on 5 and 6lb line in deep clear lakes, but occasionally I fish a more power dropshot rig......with a twist.

I will go to a heavier rod like a M/H with 12lb line, but instead of a heavier dropshot weight, I will use a jig under the dropshot hook. I used this rig during practise to find what the bass were want the most.

I Power Drop Shot a lot.
Only I use a Jig as my 'weight' instead of an actual weight.

With NuTechs the jig rarely gets snagged plus I'm fishing two different depths......and basically fish the rig like a single jig set up.
Some times, crawl, sometimes hop, sometimes 'power snap' like Wiz mentioned.

GREAT SHOREBUSTING technique!

Good TIP Wiz!

I did not know there were bass in Korea. I only learned 2 years ago there were bass in the southern part of Africa. I hope fishing in Korea isn't as expensive as in Japan. I took a business trip to Japan. When I heard people were bass fishing, I got the urge. I asked where I could find a guide. The cost prohibited me from fishing. The cost to fish is so high, the guides are really taking clients so THEY have enough money to fish for a day. Now I understand why the Japanese come here to fish competitively.
