I only caught my first bass 6 months ago when I got more serious about learning to fish, and the guys and gals at Dobyns, and on this forum, have been such a big help along the way.  They've been great addressing questions, and actually answering the phones in this day and age, have a great website with clear info, take care of any issues (and really won me over as life customer with that) and of course make fantastic rods.

I started with a Fury 705cb, got bit by the bug, and 8 or 9 Dobyns rods later, I'm quickly covering all my bases for lots of different techniques I've been learning.  I recently decided to spend some time learning to dropshot better, and picked up both a Sierra 692sf and Sierra 703sf and was fishing the 703sf today with a strike king finesse worm I've had great luck with.

I lost a good fish an hour into fishing when it jumped and shook me off, and so when I cast back to the same spot right afterwards, and got a good bite and saw my line swimming left, I reeled in the slack and set the hook as hard as I probably ever have, and what a time to do it too.  I felt a lot of resistance setting the hook like it stuck in a brick wall, but the rod had plenty of backbone and I never felt overpowered, reeled her in, and when I first saw the fish I knew it was a personal best.   I've definitely been learning the benefit of using the right rods for the right techniques, and don't think I would've landed this beauty with the stuff I was fishing before.

5.78 lbs and I'm one happy camper!  Got a weight, a few pictures, and stared in awe before watching her swim away.    Great day!

Very nice fish, and thanks for sharing the experience with us.
Enjoying retirement in the great Pacific Northwest.  I've turned into a fair weather angler.  Why do it today when I can do it tomorrow?

Congratulations JDV on the new PB.  That is a nice fish by anyone's standards.

Not sure if you are interested in this,  but you should look into the Texas state fishing reports board and give a fishing report with pictures of your fish.  You don't have to give your honeyhole away but it could help others know how to start.  Just a thought.

Not quite another p.b., but 5.01lbs on the Fury 705cb with a 1/2oz lipless this morning  :)   Love this rod!
