Ok I wanted to think a little bit outside the box... plus it's February in Northern Virginia so all the fishing I'm doing is with my imagination  ~b~

This is a Small Boat Braggin Board, and I'd love to launch it into a little bit of a competition.  There are a few rules here.

1.  All fish MUST BE CAUGHT on a trip where a one of these small boats was the primary vehicle.  I'm willing to omit the requirement of needing to be IN the boat because a lot of Kayak and Canoe types like to get out of their vessel on a river system and beat the rapids.  Therefore they would not TECHNICALLY be in their vessel at time of catch, but they're using it as their primary transportation device.

2.  Boats must fall in this category.  If you all are ok with it, I'd be willing to accept john boats, but the limitation is that the motor cannot exceed 10hp.  This opens this little deal up to the reservoir boys.

3.  Lets have a little friendly competition here.  If you can get an accurate weight with a picture... lets do it.  I'll do my best to keep a running top 5 here in this post so we can see how it's going.

4.  Fish must be Largemouth OR Smallmouth to qualify for the 'competition.'  That said, this thread is 100% open to ANY fish caught via a small vessel.  Freshwater, saltwater, bath tub, aquarium, doesn't matter to me!!!

5.  No bait restrictions... As long as it's caught on line and pole.

6.  Fish MUST be caught in 2018

7.  Have fun and be safe out there!!

Again, please don't hesitate to post pics of ANY fish you catch from a small craft that you'd like to brag about... regardless of species.   They just wont count toward the 'competition'

LETS SEE THOSE FISH!

This is an awesome idea!  ~c~

Maybe at the end of the year put up the biggest from a small boat against the biggest from a big boat! :-*

And how about the use of live bait?

We're not professional here, I'd say let it count?

GREAT IDEA!   ~c~ ~c~

Seeing most kayakers and 'small craft' use 'length' as the measuring credential as opposed to weight.
Scales can vary tremendously......rulers/bumpboards/hawgtroughs, etc. are always accurate.
Many 'small boat' enthusiasts also fish SOLO......lot easier to take a pic of a fish on a board as opposed to holding a scale, fish in one hand and then with the other hand take a good pic.....especially if it's a larger fish.

AGAIN, great idea!!!!!

I got this one last outing on my kayak. Couldn't get a weight, my scale maxes out at 40lbs. I notified the IGFA, for some reason they haven't responded.

I have suggestions...
As to what qualifies a boat as a small boat?
I'd say any that are designed to be reasonably easy to handle with a paddle. Which pretty much excludes any boat with a console, most with fishing decks, and a lot that would normally come standard from a dealership with a motor.
As to motor restrictions, I'd personally lower HP limit to 5 ponies or TM only, but I'm cool with john boats up to 10 HP. Some folks like to cover a lot of skinny water.
Also, maybe a max draft or width limit? But I know newer bass boats seem to have a shallower draft than old ones, but a lot of john boats max out at around a 4' beam.

Also, how bout a small fish prize to go along with this competition? I'd bet money I can beat Jason!
I'd say LMB or SMB, must be caught line and rod, with hook in mouth, measured on a ruler since some scales may not register a couple ounces...
I think my smallest has been about 3-4", and dang it, I'd like to win a fishing competition some day.

On second thought, belay that. Members here are honest and honorable. I don't think anyone's going to try to claim their 18'+ bass boat as a small craft because they used a trolling motor for 15 minutes just so they can try to win a competition in the kayak board.
We all know what's meant by "small boat".

I'd still like to see a tiny fish contest though.

Yeah bud!  This is for fun.  I wanna see ALL the fishes!  Even if they aren't Bass... but I will do my best to keep a running tally of length here so we can have a bit of a... friendly competition for braggin rights.  Think of this more like the cork bulletin board you see at the local bait shop.  I don't know if you're interested but the board is putting on a competitive 'tournament' that everyone is welcome to join.. iBass looks like its gaining legs and looks like it's gonna be a bunch of fun!!!

SteelHorseCowboy

Oh I plan on joining iBass!
Dang sure don't plan on winning though, lol!
Most fish I catch are a pound or less and under a foot, and most times I go fishing I go home with an empty photo roll! Hard to find 'em when you can't get off the bank!
Planning to rent a canoe Saturday and planning to build another little plywood boat soon though.

AWESOME!

Show off the boat when you get it on the 'Show off your rig' thread... There are times a boat like that has a great benefit over one of the bigger tubs...

We just got hit with another nor'easter up here in Connecticut, but I've already been out fishing several times in my kayak, which is a Hurricane Santee 116 Sport named El Habañero:

So far, I've boated yellow perch, white perch, largemouth bass, chain pickerel and northern pike:

I didn't measure the largemouth bass, because it was clearly not a keeper.

Thanks for the pictures and I like catching a verity of fish like that. It does look a little cold up there.

Better believe it! I posted two builds here already. The first was stolen, I found it recently and too damaged to salvage. The second one, we had a deluge and the shed where I was storing the wood flooded a bit and the wood got water damaged. I used it anyway, and got about 3-4 uses out of it before it broke in half.
