This is a one year review of the Daiwa Tatula ct reels. This review will contain reviews on The Daiwa Tatula CT Type-R and the Daiwa Tatula svtw.

Both these reels were bought last winter and were put on my most used rods.

The Tatula CT Type-r was a 7.1/1 and used for topwaters and jerkbaits. It saw plenty of hours of use.
The braking on it was good not great for me. The adjustments were very simple as I was able to adjust from bait to bait without a glitch. It stayed smooth the whole year with no maintenance.
For a small reel it lots of power to pull fish away from cover. Distance was good for larger baits but smaller baits you had to watch over casting or it would backlash.

The Tatula svtw was fantastic out of the box. I had two of them both were 8.1/1.
One was used on a Dobyns Sierra 734c for skipping small jigs and senkos, spinnerbaits, and small swimbaits.
This combo was incredible, I was able to put baits in places I only wished to do before.
The Tatula svtw was smooth to the end of the year again with no maintenance. Throwing light baits and skipping was it sweet spot but also handle 1/2 oz spinnerbaits and big smallie really well.

The second Tatula svtw was on a heavy jig rod and used for pitching wood. With a little setting change it pitched really well. And had plenty of power to pull fish away from the cover.

I liked the Tatula svtw 's so much that this winter I have bought two more.

I would suggest the Tatula svtw to any beginner in baitcasting as with the right setting it is nearly impossible to backlash.

Can't wait for the thaw to put these reels back in my hand.

You could use any. What kind of cover usually dictates what line I use.
I use three types of line, Senshi mono, P-Line flouroclear, and Power pro braid.

The P-Line flouroclear is my go to for most lures.
braid for weeds
and mono for topwater

I've been a pretty solid Lew's guy for a number of years. Linda gave me a Tatula R-100 XS Christmas before last. I assigned it Frog Duty and was very impressed. It was besting my Lew's Tournament Pro SS by a good 15-20 yards and that was in cold weather.

I've added a CTs and a couple CT type-Rs to my arsenal.

Love my Tatulas. You all know I praise them quite often.

My Tatula Type R and CT both benefited from upgraded bearings. Zip the bearings upgrade isn't expensive, but well worth it on that Type R. You'll see your light baits cast much better. Cast distance will increase and with more ease. I'm not a fan of modifying my reels, unless it's a functional upgrade.

The SV I wouldn't touch. I don't want to mess with the fine tuning of the brake system and like you said them being hard to backlash.

has anyone ever bought a reel from Walmart? :shocking:  The have the Daiwa Tatula SV TW 103HSL 7.3:1 for $50 less than anywhere else, I'm just concerned that it's Walmart.  I can't imagine Daiwa makes a special "lower quality" reel just for Walmart would they?!

Wow, that is a half price deal right there.  If you are looking for a left crank reel I would snap them up.

If you are looking at the one online, just take a look at the vendor. Walmart is doing what Amazon does. They have vendors. I found 2 that might be the ones you are looking at. Says they are sold by "alpha sports" If you click on the vendor you can see their rating and reviews.

Just remember, anything that seems to be too good to be true, usually is. Of course, as long as you can confirm they have a liberal return policy, it doesn't hurt to take a gamble.

I would agree with the Daiwa Tatula SV reels. I usually tear down my new reels and do a full cleaning and bearing flush, but these SV reels are so smooth straight out of the box, I will likely skip the normal process and just fish them.

I haven't bought any reels from Walmart, but I have a few rods.  I don't think I would worry about who actually ships the reel to you.  Walmart has good customer service.  One of my rods arrived broken (at my home).  Took the rod over and they refunded my money immediately and I re-ordered another one.  Can't ask for better than that.

I bought two Daiwa SV TWS. The 103H and 103XS for $139 apiece and I cannot wait to use them.
I had to put them on a rod and throw line on them to practice pitching in the basement.
Even took them out to cast in the snow.
After reading all the reviews about them I will definitely give them some use this year.
They will be competing against a good group of Lews reels so we will see
