You have a Gheenoe too?

Just joined the Gheenoe clan with a 95 highsider.  Was wondering if anyone else had one?  Not necessarily a highsider but a Gheenoe in general too.

I have a "Classic" and have had it for over 20 years now. I think it's listed as 15'6". Mine's a bit different in the interior design from what shows on their website. I suspect they revised it at some point.

I added some 8" pedestals & folding seats, and usually paddle it. I have had both a 9.9 outboard & a 36 lb thrust trolling motor on it, and both moves it along very well.

The Gheenoe is an wonderful fishing craft.  ;D

I am looking at Gheenoe as an option to replace my 15 ft jon boat.
Looking more at the Super 16. Me being in the heavy weight category I want to make sure I have a stable fishing platform.

Jim how would you rate the stability on your Gheenoe compared to other vessels you may have fished from?

I am also looking into 17ft aluminum bass boats.

basss I would love to get your opinion on the highsider once you've used it some as well.

Rick, I'm 6'4" tall about 240 lbs, and I've stood & fly fished from it, so it's a very stable craft, but as I've gotten older it's more wobbly side to side, mostly because I'm more wobbly!  lo  I don't stand in it much now, one of the reasons I added pedestals for the seats, as I can sit & cast, even a 10 wt fly rod, and I'm plenty comfortable with it.

I also have a 16' jon & it's a more stable platform for standing & fishing. Both will go into very skinny water, but in that category, the Gheenoe will win & should it hit bottom is much easier to get out.

I've been in water that was only about 3" deep with the Gheenoe.

I can still move the Gheenoe around in the bed of my truck, but as I get older it's getting harder to do, as it's a bit heavy with the seats & pedestals added. I have a trailer for it too and that's how I prefer to move it around, but now the trailer needs work.

For the jon, there's only one option & that's to trailer it.

If I could, I would replace the Gheenoe with a Super 16, or a flats type skiff. It's got some wear & tear now. There's some cracks now in the hull that need to be addressed, some badly rubbed spots in the fiberglass on the bottom and some other things I need to fix. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to do it, so have to make due with what I have.  ::)

I have no complaints, it's been a good fishing vessel for me.  :)

Jim one of my concerns is that wobble. I am 5'10" and about 330lbs. I do have a lower center of gravity than you though lol. But I do have bad balance. My 15ft jon is a 55" beam, but as you know with jon boats the bottoms are smaller. The bottom of mine is something like 38 or 40 inches. So it's tippy as heck.

Thanks for the good info. The Super 16 should be more stable. Wider beam, transom, and longer.

Will do Rick

Only been out on it twice and I am impressed. I took it out to a lake with wakeboarders, tubers, and general boat traffic and it took the waves just fine. Don't see you having an isssue with stability in the model you're looking at.

The customization that can be done on them is amazing. The brand has a good following and has been around a while.  The Gheenoe site I joined (customgheenoe.com) reminds me a bit of this site. Browse around on there and get a feel for the brand- think you'll like it.

I can see myself using it more than originally thought.

Thanks basss. I've done some lurking on that site. I've even built a Gheenoe to the specs I wanted. They do the LT25 which would be my second option if I go Gheenoe. But I still think the Super would work better for me.

Nice .... that site has rally info from time to time.  I'd suggest maybe you go to one if you can.
