Ned rig

I finally tried a ned rig, had it tied up but was still reluctant to let'r fly. Was out Saturday and it was slow, only got 1 on a crank, lots of perch but only one bass, nothing on an Umbrella rig so I looked at the Ned rig and said "what the hey, there are fish here."
I have this one rigged on a 6'9" medlite rod spooled with 6 lb braid and a 6 lb leader, it's a 3/32 worm head jig with a 3 inch BPS Sticko, made several casts to get the "feel", on the third or forth I was dragging it back slowly when I thought it hung, turned out to be a 21/2 lb bass, just weight no hit. I caught another about 2 lbs, same deal, just extra weight no hit.
This won't work in much of the water I fish because of grass but along docks with no grass and the outside of grass lines I think it can be another tool in my arsenal on those days when everything else seems to be just hauling water. It should be a very good tool as the water temp falls through the 50s into the 40s and lower and as the ice is leaving in the spring.
The Ned rig is just a variation of the old jig worm, mostly 4 to 6 inch worms were used but craws, lizards, reapers and other soft plastics would occasionally be used also, there really isn't much new out there.

LMG:  go ahead and fish your 'vienna' rig    i will toss the ned.

that said, one of my old school all time favorite baits when starting out was a Charlie Brewer snagless slider head (1/8 oz) with a Berkeley 4" finesse worm in pumpkinseed.

then Berkley discontinued the worm.

Ol ned has out fished a shaky head for me the last couple years.  The thing just always seems to,work.
I use Ozark finesse heads and either cut a zinker z in half or use theTRD.

About a year or so ago I was fishing a pool and it was super bad no bites or nothing.

I don't have a clue how these ended up in my bag but I saw these Arkie Weedless Stand Up Heads. I had some Zman Hula Stikz (MTB or LTB sent me these) and made me a Ned rig.

All I could do is toss it out and twitch it ever so lightly. Otherwise it would be covered in moss. I landed 3 in about an hour before dark. Ive never fished one before then and never again since then. 

Im off to google a 'vienna' rig.

Im inexperienced too but this is what mine looked like.

Except mine had the wire weedguard on it
This is the exact bait and color I was using.

Because I'd rather eat the vienna sausages and they don't last as long as the other baits do.
You can use most any soft bait on a jig, small craws work very well, Zoom Critter Craws come to mind, finesse worms, small curl tail or ribbon tail woms baits like that, they all work. The technique is decades old but still works very well, it just has a new name.
