Ive been looking through hawgs you all been posting on a ruler looking thing... I was always told that when snapping a pic with a ruler the bass mouth is to be shut.? I'm new and want to start doing small tournaments till I get better with fl waters. Is it a good practice to start shutting the bass' mouth?

Don't worry about measuring the length. The Florida guys say that if the bass isn't thicker than your thigh, gently slip it back into the water. That way no one will see it and laugh at catching a dink.

Yes, Stax. The best and precise way of measuring a fish is with its mouth closed and the tail pinched. You will quickly learn however, some fish will refuse to  cooperate. Lol!!   We in the FLBR do the best we can to get the best picture possible in the shortest amount of time  to snap a pic and release the fish quickly.

Obviously any fish that won't keep it's mouth closed isn't a male

Caught one today that had te mouth closed but getting a picture of it was a pain. It flopped off my bump board 5 times just as I was about to snap the pic.
If you tire the fish out first it's usually easier. But like today's fish on the frog and drag locked down I got it to the boat quick. It still had too much energy to sit still and smile for the camera.
