Good Lord I hope not!

Well I might be fishing more now anyhow.

Got a call from our boss and he conference called in the corporate boss. The way they started talking I thought they were either going to offer me a FT job or a lead position for another crew for next year.

Then after all the build up they let me go effective immediately. Lol.

Said they were letting all but 3 build guys go. Said they would call me for rehire next year.

I told them thanks and I couldn't promise them I wouldn't be working at that time next year but if I was available I was interested.

Just have to see what happens. Was supposed to work through the end of November.

It's Lou's fault. He should know better than give 11 days to an opinionated, argumentative, high horse riding red neck. Given the opportunity to beat said horse to death, he will.

Normally I'm called to the Deans office long before this so I'll quit now, most likely....

First of all, if requiring that people I interact with be not so casual with the truth or facts is being "on my high horse", then I'm going to die on top of this horse.

Secondly, I never said you were a bad guy and I don't think you are. If you took it as a personal attack I apologize.

However, you again made my point about the lack of personal integrity for me. The absence of someone standing in front of you telling you can't do something does not translate to "it's legal to do it."  Whether or not you are poaching or in someone's back yard is irrelevant. Without specific  permission from the land owner, you are still, by definition, trespassing.

So you can admit that you're trespassing or take the time to get actual permission. The landowners names  and addresses are readily available on your local tax assessors website.

Next I want to bring up the spirit of this competition. Most of us have access to private water that would almost guarantee a win every month. We don't use them because winning just to win is not a principle that this club was founded on. This group of fishermen is unlike any you'll find elsewhere and maybe your sense of fairness does not align with the rest of the club. Contrary to one of your earlier statements, most members readily give up spots and baits to ensure that everyone at the classics have a good time regardless of the outcome. I've seen it, and I've done it.

And lastly. You are the only club member that has had a problem with the rule change.  Why is that?  Based solely on your responses, a couple of questions come to mind.  Is it because you know you can't compete on public water?  Or is it an insatiable desire to win at something no matter what? I admit I don't know you personally or the answers to those questions but they are something you might want to ask yourself.

Thanks for the apology. I'm sure if we ever met, you wouldn't even realize I'm the person from the website.

Truthfully, when this started, all I asked for was clarification. Lou stated that this was done two weeks in advance in order for us to sort it all out. And before you, Barry, and West started saying things like "lack of integrity" and "tone deaf", the posts were all congenial. Forgive me if, when I feel insulted, I push back a little. But show me where I was less than diplomatic about the issue in my previous posts.

I know for a fact that this all came up due to the last two fish I caught at the school with the fence. Lou pm'd me about it, asking where I caught the fish, and I knew right then things were about to change. Now mind you, I have since the beginning always told you guys how I fish. I've also made it clear that if anyone else did the same thing, you'd have similar success, making sure that you all know that I respect your abilities. Whether you choose to do so is your own prerogative, but nonetheless, it was within the rules at the time, so I did what I've been doing for years. I don't fish my spots because of the competition. I joined the competition because I knew I was on good fish.

The mistake was Lou changing the rule in the middle of the season. Now, I could go to the local FMA's, maybe fish some of the smaller creeks in my shower pan boat and post enough to stay in the top 3 for the next 6 months, and probably win the AOY, just because of the lead already established within the old rules. Problem is, the first half of the year would always be a controversy for everyone here. I wouldn't feel good about it, and frankly, should not be awarded. Furthermore, it makes it where I have to choose between fishing inferior waters just to compete in this contest with no stakes, or go where I know I have a chance to catch quality fish, and sometimes lots of them. That's a no brainer for me.

I also still feel the rule is flawed, because  it would definitely favor those who live on private or community lakes, or better yet, golf courses. Whether you or the other guys fish your private lakes is irrelevant. There will be future people joining, and they may not feel the same as you guys. This doesn't just involve me, but everyone here. Actually, it won't involve me at all, because I am done, but at some point in the future, this will come up again.

My being against the rule was not an attempt to tilt the competition in my favor. I just believe that everyone here has the same opportunities I do, and that instead of restricting where we can fish, that keeping it wide open was the best way to go. The world is getting more crowded, and there are more people fishing every year. I think outside the box and like to explore - while not hurting anyone or their property - and am rewarded with the few good fish that are left. Like I said before, I don't want to see anyone else at my local spots, but I was happy to inform you guys that there are more options available for those willing to look.

You are entitled to your opinion about where to fish, as am I. I will continue to do what I do, and won't feel the least bit guilty about it. The lakes I fish in are already pressured and poached, but when I leave them they are in better shape than when I got there. No one sees me pick up trash and take old fishing line out of the bushes, but I do it. Your gunny's Grandfather would be proud.

Lastly, before deciding to quit the club, I thought that I would keep Lakes C, A, and Big Island Swamp in my rotation and post fish from them. I have permission at all of them, and they would fall within the new rule. I asked Lou to remove the 2 big fish I caught from the school, and told him I would not post any fish from there again. You can read on the Bragging Rights page what he had to say. I'm still baffled about it, but I'm over it. You guys can have your club. I'm going to catch big fish, enjoy it, and not worry about trying to impress anyone but myself.

Good luck, and tight lines,
Tress
P.S. I don't use shiners.

Went to the park by work today and found some fish.

1 baby peacock and 8 bass. The bass were all in the 13-14 inch range. Tried several lures. One topwater, a crank, a spinnerbait and had no luck. Switched to a uvibe and started fishing it fast and slowly worked my way down to a crawl. Nope. So I went to the trusty sticko with a 1/16oz weight.
Then it happened. Figured them out from cast distance to what they wanted.

3 hit the bait falling. Missed a few of these bites too.

The rest picked the sticko off the bottom . The bite was very light. Hard time detecting it. Wasn't seeing a tick in the line and wasn't feeling a tick either. They were not picking it up and swimming off with t either.
I ended up gut hooking 3 fish sadly and one might not have made it. He wasn't looking to great.

Here are a few pics

Baby pea hits topwater

Then I got home and found this at my front door!

My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.

I was thinking about starting one of these competitions myself in my area next year.  Just looking for pointers on how to make the rules and such.  How long have you all been doing this?  What drove the drastic rule change in the middle of the year?

Sorry to hear that Fred. I sat in that exact same meeting 21 years ago. I was so angry after, I decided to start my own business a couple days later, and here I am.  The point is, some better opportunity is right in front of you, if you can see it.
