Flats I have the grass pig and it's a decent swimbait but I find it lacks action. Also because of its round shape I think it tends to wobble more than other swimbaits.
But they are the cheapest swimbait out there.

I personally prefer the Gambler Swimmers, the Bitters or the Reaction Innovation swimbaits.
That's just personal preference though. With the grass pig being under 3 bucks a pack I suggest you try a pack of them and see if you like them.

Gambler EZ Swimmer are currently on sale for $3.28 at Tacklewarehouse and you get an additional 15% off at checkout for Labor Day making them only $2.79 per pack. Incredible deal!

Is white your go to color? My go to color is bluegill or watermelon if I'm fishing clear water. I've never tried buzzing them on top. I fish them on a weighted swim bait hook. I will have to try buzzing them.
I do like the white/pearl colors, especially when the sun is out. When buzzing them, I'm not sure how much color makes a difference though. It's a reaction strike (except when they come from across the pond - those are obviously feeding fish). The reason I like these type baits for buzzing, especially in super thick pads, is how easily they come through vegetation. Typically, I throw a horny toad for this presentation, but they don't stay on the hook as well as a swimmer. I also like speed worms for this, too. But, with the way the legs on a toad, and the tail on a speedworm face forward, they are more apt to grab the edges and hearts of pads. The boot tail on a swimmer is more streamlined. It doesn't kick up quite the ruckus of a toad, but sometimes a slightly more subtle buzz works better. Plus, when you do hit an open spot and let the bait sink, it looks very natural.

Yeah... I'm not in the $$ position right now so I don't have a problem closing the door on the bait monkey's face. Now when it comes to safety... I had to spend the $$ on those tires.

Great outing Lou and Rick, glad you guys had success. Lou, that was quite a haul you had, and great limit to start with. Hope you can keep adding to it this month.

Hope your shoulder and elbow aren't hurt too badly so you can get back to fishing soon.
Get back to it? Lol, all it did was slow me down!
Caught a dink yesterday morning and this morning, my lady caught a few dinks and two pretty nice little bass.

We did have a scare last night. Took the crew out to a nearby boat ramp for some night fishing with lightup bobbers. Round midnight my daughter mentions, "it sure is getting foggy out here..."
I pulled out my Mini-Mag LED to see just how foggy it was.
Our bobbers were only about 15-10 feet from the bank. And directly on the other side of our bobbers?
"Where'd that log come from? THOSE ARE EYES!"

I bet y'all'd never seen four folks set such a record grabbing their crap and getting the hell out of dodge. The kids were GONE before I got my bobber out the water.

Gators sure have a way to sneak up on you. Fortunately you signed your mag light when you did.

They sure do. Last close encounter I had with one was a small one that'd gotten curious. He was sitting just a few feet away in the water, about my 8 o'clock position, when I got ready to paddle my pirogue back to the bank after fishing a dead spot for about an hour. I didn't notice him until I almost smacked him in the head with the paddle. Scared the hell outta both of us. Only about 3' long, but I swear in those moments of splashing and cussing, he was every bit of 30 feet.

They are curious critters. That's probably all there was to it the other night, just wanted to see what the flashy thingies were.

The youngest asked me "is there ANY place we can fish around here that ain't got gators?"
I told him, "Boy, around here if you spit on the ground and come back the next day you'll find a gator trying to swim in it."

Some days I swear they're almost as thick as skeeters. Going to get a hunting license soon and may get a couple tags for gator sometime.

When I was a kid my grandparents lived on the Little Manatee river. Every year there there were a couple that would get a little too comfortable around people and would get a sudden case of lead poisoning followed by a crisco bath.   The     big lizards don't seem to hang around my house very long either. I don't know why.....

I've had a lot of respect for those creatures, but after my last confrontation with one of them, respect has turned to fear. When you are on your jon boat deck and a gator comes up from the bottom of the canal right next to the gunwale, nice and slow with its mouth wide open, and chomps at you...you learn to fear those things lol.

Lip why did you have to tell my secrets lol.

About the gator, I bet it was the light up bobbers, I was fishing with them years ago off a dock. The bobber started moving slowly away.. then went less bright but wasn't under the water. We had a 3 footer that was attacking them lol

Tressbasser

Once, years ago, my buddy and I pulled his Gheenoe up to a nest with about an 8' momma and her hatchlings. You'd think the mom would have been aggressive with us and defended the nest, but she just swam off, leaving us to play with the 6" babies. It was fun, they're kinda cute when they're that small.

SteelHorseCowboy

Having been scared often enough by them lately, my feelings have turned to a guarded indifference. I still don't like surprises. Except for the one that tried to chase me down on dry land this past mother's day, they haven't paid me much mind beyond coming by just to see what kind of shenanigans I'm up to.
But, their teeth are bigger than mine, they're faster than me in the water, dang near faster on land, so I still give them as wide a berth as practical and keep a wary eye on them whenever I see one.
