After reading a rant about shipping in "DOCK TALK", understandable rant b.t.w., I thought I would tell what I do to make shipping a bit less.
1. Save up and make a purchase large enough for free shipping.
2. Buy during a free shipping sale.
3. get together with fishing buddies and make up an order and all pitch in what they want.
4. This has the chance of the monkey ambushing you but here goes. Some places have an online order, pickup at store free deal. gives you the opportunity to do a little hands on. The one problem with this one is many stores keep the monkey in hidden little nooks or crannies and they may have extra monkeys on staff. lo ;)
5. Enter the various contests here, you may win. ;D ;D

Great post Rodney!  ~c~

One thing I also have found, you have to shop around & compare too. There are sources that I always check when I want or need something, but I'll also spend time looking around! I know most of us guys are not "shoppers"! We see what we want & buy it! But, no sense spending more if you don't have to, and in this computer age, most of us have some "down time" when we can be checking out sales & such online!  I don't mind spending a small bit more if I can find a product I want at a reasonable price with a vendor that I want to support, but we all have limited funds too!  ::)

I buy a good bit from online sellers. Not always fishing tackle, but some of my fly tying & lure making supplies. I expect to pay shipping, so always take that into consideration.

Many of the sources I use have newsletters & sales that are only online & available to those who get the newsletter. Be sure to sign up! Even when the shipping is not the best, sometimes the sale savings can offset the shipping cost a bit, and some do have sales with free shipping!  :-*

If you're concerned about getting a bunch of emails with ads & other junk, then create another email account with one of the free services & only use that email for all your newsletters & "shopping"!  :)

Most places I buy from have free shipping over $50, and thats not hard to rack up that total. Plus, it would cost me the same to drive to Bass Pro as it would to pay for the shipping. Aaaaand, the prices are always cheaper than BPS anyways.
My wife says she is gonna leave me if I go fishing one more time........lord how I will miss that woman.
