Trey and I fished the TCTC on Caddo today.
We threw the Megabait Charlie swimbait most of the day, pulling it real slow and keeping it right on top of the water making a wake. We managed to boat several nice fish early with 3 overs and 3-4 slot fish. Trees with grass was the key for us as almost every fish came out of a little grass clump by a tree. This bait is really fun to fish like that as they will really slam it. Yeasterday I had a 5 lb. fish explode on it and miss, since it is a suspending bait I just left it in the water and she nailed it again, now that was fun.
We had a little over 16 lbs.
I also fished the Megabait Charlie along with a swamp frog yesterday in the S&S tournament using the same pattern for 19 lbs. and lost the biggest fish I have ever had on due to a little malfunction.

Terrry and I fished TCTC sunday we had only one fish 4.36 i think. i caught it around 1200 and that was the only bite i had all day. terry caught 2 slot and lost a under keeper. we were not on any fish so we just did a lot of running around. the over came on a pumpkin/chart craw worm in 4-5ft. this was the first time we didnt bring in a limit. but thats fishing. but congrats to papa and trey on the there win. and next time we will be better prepared...

Congratulations Papa and Trey ~c~ Laurie and I took second with 3 overs and a little over 10 pounds. We caught several fish on poppers after the sun got high. Basically you had to cast it up under the cypress limbs into the shade, if you could do it with out making any noise against the tree or hitting the water too hard you could get hammered. Laurie did catch the biggest fish on our sack on a Strike Works Jig ~c~ That's two tourney's in a row she has boated our biggest bass on that jig ~c~ may not get here to put it down again ;)

We didn't catch a fish until 1000 am, when we figured out the popper deal. If I had a morning spot we could have gave you a run for your money Papa ;) Best we've done in a long time on your home lake, looking forward to another chance. One good day and I am starting to like that lake again, lots of 17 3/4 inch slot fish though, fun to fight but frustrating in a tourney  :shocking:

Me and Kennyp fished the TCTC also but no weigh fish. Caught 2 nice slots and a dink on a watermelon red yum fluke. Lots of bream bites and broke one off after it ran around a tree. Pitched the fluke to the shady side of trees 3-5 foot and let it sink, they all hit it on the fall. Had a good time anyway. Congrats to Papa and Trey on the big fish and win.

We were there also! For some reason, me & my partner are have a very bad year tournament wise. We just can't seem to catch any fish.

We started out in a place in Jeems that is usually good for a fish or two. I had one blow up on a buzzbait & race toward me faster than I could take up the slack. He got off.
Later ran over to the Texas side (for the first time) & found some boat houses & water that was grown up bad with hydrilla. I had one blow up on a horny toad right next to the boat. He was a big fish & about gave me a heartattack!  lo But no hook-up.

We then ran down to the dam & fish the rocks on the levee...no luck! We fished some trees down on that end & finally hooked a 12 1/4 inch fish that we weighed. Caught him on a Tequila sunrise Baby brush hawg.

We tried everything I could think of, every color, every bait almost in my box. We just couldn't put it together.

CONGRATS PAPA & TREY! GREAT JOB!  ~c~ Also, congrats Mike & Laurie and Mike & Fogy on 2nd & 3rd place!

Thanks BA,

I like you was digging all day in my box.  Just couldn't find anything that would help much.  We covered about half the lake with Spinners & I had the one retard fish hit my Lizard when I reeled it back to the boat on a bad cast!  LOL

Anyway I like the lake because I all ways have the hope of hanging a big hog, but I HATE SLOT LAKES.  I know there are big fish out there but as Mike & I talked about yesterday its sending time out on the water to learn the lake.  You can't just show up on any lake & expect to be on fish.  You have to spend your time & pay your dues to learn the areas & we all know even that can change based on the weather or any number of influences.  Heck sometimes they just won't bite for you, while others are cleaning-up.  That's just fishing sometimes.  The deal I'm trying to get at is that Mike nor I spend much time ever on Caddo & it shows.  Even though I know there are big fish out there I have a hard time justifying the time & expense just to go fish it when I have Bisteneau so close.  I can go there & not catch fish!   lo

BassBUFF

We also fished the TCTC yesterday but fared the worst of the bunch....not even a slot fish :'(! Kermit and I threw both tackle bags at them with no luck. Fogy brings up a good point about fishing the lake and paying your dues, this is only the second time we've ever been on Caddo and it REALLY shows!

Congrats to Papa & Trey, Mike & Laurie, and Mike N & Fogy. Great job ~c~!

Fogy I feel the same way about Bist. I know it is a great Bass lake sometimes but it is a 45 min. drive and Caddo is a 5 min. drive , that really is the only reason I fish Caddo so much, although before Sat. I had been on Caddo 1 time since Feb. I just got lucky and found some good fish Sat. in the S&S. Trey and I were talking about it today and think that Mike and Laurie and you and Mike N. did a heck of a job. Trey and I were "ON" fish , it is pretty easy to catch fish that you are on, but trying to find them post front from scratch is a totaly different story. So Trey and I think you guys have a big hand coming. ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

Thanks for the kudo's Papa, I like the concept of everyone fishing a lake that the had no clue on, except for maybe last years reports. But there will always be a home lake advantage for a given team. But Laurie and I had a blast and finding a top water bite after ten oclock on a post front blue bird sky day, who would have thought

All good points.  Getting "on" fish is tough, especially when you are only fishing once a month, if lucky!  I remember when Daniel and I won the Grand Bayou tournament last year, Brantley and I were slaying fish on GB - and I knew exactly what to throw and when - and it paid off.  No hawgs, but a nice trio of solid 3 pounders.

I remember the 1st Caddo tourney last year we weighed 4 or 5 pounds, and threw away about 7 or 8 because of the slot!!!

Oh well, had fun trying.  BTW, I had NO enthusiasm in fishing Bistineau a few months back, but left loving the lake.  I think it is going to be a lot of fun fishing that place once I figure it out (plus, my wife's family has a camp on it).

Ron Fogelson

PaPa you are to kind!  ;D  I have been on fish in past tournaments but come game day they are nowhere to be found.  Even on Bisteneau last year I was killing them had the pattern down to the tree!  Game day, water dropped about 8 to 10 inches & all the trees I was on were left high  dry.  But time on the water does help, at least you can come up with a backup plan because you know of other spots, on Caddo I'm just trying not to get lost!  lo  I brought my GPS this time even though Mike was handling the boat & I knew he would get me home.  This way next time I go I have a path to show areas we worked.

fished Caddo today from 12 till 6.
Bite was real slow, I only managed about 6 or 7 in the boat although I had a bunch of hits that seemed halfhearted. Probably some of which were jacks.
I fished a lot of new old places( places I used to fish but have not fished in a few years) now I remember why I quit fishing them  :-[

The fish I caught came on a Horney toad and Megabite Charlie in shallow water with lots of grass of one kind or another.Had a big "GRINNER" pull the hooks out of my last one. Man as good as those baits catch fish I wish the plastic was a little tougher to break. Saturday , Sunday and today I went through 7 of of them with the hooks pulled out of two the eye pulled out of one and the lip broken on the rest. :-\

Papa, take all the peices and mail them back to the company ;) I don't know if they would do anything about it, but I have had companies do lots a about it before. I mailed a tore up ban o lure back to Bagley's with a letter discribing how much I loved the bait and that it did catch fish, but felt that it shouldn't tear up so easy and I just wanted to let them know the problems I had. It was a very polite and straigh forward letter, two weeks later they sent me a case of them :-* I would first send a letter to extreme with a picture of the baits all torn up - as the retailer, but I would hang on to the baits and send them to MegaBait if it was necessary ;)

Fished caddo today out of shady acres. went to the right down the bank with the boat houses. missed two on topwater then caught one a 4.8 on topwater. chris might know where it was. it was the blue pier with a duck blind behind it? it came off the corner of that duck blind. caught a slot on the fat boy crankbait fishing it in the pads. missed one on a 10in worm same bank. then ran to the southwest corner of big green break or what i thought was it. caught one dink and a crappie. the dink came on 8in kudzu lizard, the crappie was on a spinnerbait. not sure if i was in the right spot stayed in the 3-4ft just trying to hit as many trees as i could. so on that note as of right now i dont think i will be fishing that tourny tomorrow.

Brian, I know exactly where youre talking about... That is a very good bank that runs by Shady Acres... Looking back on last Sunday, we coulda probably caught a decent stringer  making several passes through there  :-\.Its filled with lots of visible structure. I surely would have taken that 4.8 last weekend.

Brian I was actually fishing the south end trees but towards the west end of green Break. I started on that corner and fished towards the east end but I never got more than 500 yards from the west side. I actually fished the west side a little Sat. but never got bit. All the fish came from the south end trees. Sun. Trey and I caught a couple on trees a little further out but never more than 50 yards or so from the heavy grass.

Fished Caddo today with GEO and had a great time. That brand new Triton is quite a rig ~c~ ~c~

We never really got on the fish, caught an over and an under on a topwater, had a couple strikes on a buzz bait but didn't hook up, caught and over and a slot fish on a 11 inch worm, caught two unders on a jig, caught a slot fish on a fluke, well you see where I am going with this. NO PATTERN just cover water I guess. We also see some good quality fish way up shallow just cruising but couldn't get them to bite anything  :-\

All and all a great day with good company.

Fished caddo yesterday from 0700 - 1200 we caught maybe 10. most of ours came on the horny toad. we did get on a crankbait pattern later in the day caught a few little ones.. we also found what looked like a fish still on a bed or getting ready to get on a bed. the fish was just sitting on a clear spot on the bank we would throw at it it would just swim away but would come right back to the same spot. it did that like 4 or 5 times, so not sure what was going on but the guy i was with was going back today to try and catch it.. might go back today or friday if i can. later

Fished Caddo today from 2 till about 7, not much to report. I think I caught 5 mostly small slots on a frog and a 11 inch worm. frog fish were in pads around Marshall break and the worm fish were on trees in about 2-3 ft. in green break.
Mr. Bunting (the guy that owns Shady acres) is going up again. will be 5 dollars as of June 1st. He just lost one paying customer. I can put in at Williamson and run up there for less than 5 dollars. I tried to tell him but he said he said he was set on going up.

Terry and I fished caddo today in the North Caddo football tourny. fish from 5:00 to 8:30 be in the weigh in line at 9:00. they had 15 teams so terry and i had to redeem our selfs for aprils TCTC tourny with a FIRST PLACE  ~c~. you can weigh only 3 fish we had 2 over, . we found a pattern with 45 min left before we had to leave so in that 45 mins we caught a 17 3/4, a 3.77, 3.58 and had two get off.. so not bad if i say so my self.. big bass was 4.02 i think so we didnt miss that by much with the 3.77. so looks like we will fish the next one in two weeks.. the water was 85 deg. and clear grass and pads have already taken over, that lake needs water bad.. so congrats to terry and brian.... ~c~

blackbox

Thats what I'm talking about Brian.  Had to take somebody else's money for a change. HA HA   To bad we didn't have our Ultimate Bass shirts they would have been shivering in there boots. They all fear the shirt! Well got to go now. See you on the water.

Chris

Good job boys! Can anybody fish these tourneys? Where do you guys launch?

Railroader
