Fished Caddo yesterday evening from 1:30-5p.m., it was a weee bit chilly, but I did manage 7fish (4slot-3 over) caught one that was 22in. long but probably only weighed 4lbs.=spawned out big time. Water temp. on the west side was still in the mid 50's. Got bit on a big worm and spinnerbait on the windy trees.Been doin any good lately, Papa???

This is our best time of the year and we are already way behind, in fact we are working tomorrow for sure and maybe Sunday also. I will very likly fish the club tourney without being on Caddo for over a month :'(
But don't wait on me you go ahead and catch em all ~c~

Launched out of shady acres around 1pm. fished the bank going up in jeems and it was muddy. caught one dink stayed till 3:30 and left.

BassBUFF

Hit the lake around 1130 Sat., there were a TON of people on the lake. Water was really up and the temp was upper 50's. Ran up Jeem's and fished a little on the North shore, no bites. Water was stained and flowing pretty good, 57-59 temps. Ran back out and almost ran over some crappie fishermen sitting right at the boat row where the cable runs under the water. Headed across the lake past Potter's Point. Water got muddier and cooler closer to the river. Fished along 1G row (Twin Islands area), no takers, water was 55-57 and muddy. Headed back around 1530 and noticed the water along A row was in the low 60's all the way back.

Looks like a totally new lake with the water up. No emergent grass anywhere, hyacinth was really scaled back too. No idea where to even start come Sunday.

BassBUFF, don't feel too bad, I fished a club tournament on Caddo yesterday & weighed in a big fat ZERO!  I only caught a couple of slot fish and a jack.  The 1st place guy in our tournament only had 5.62 lbs, pretty weak sack for Caddo in the springtime.  However, he still got the $$ so that's the bottom line!  lo   My bites came on a Watermelon Candy Brush Hog, tails dipped in chart.  No bites on lizards, senkos, spinnerbaits.  I didn't hear what anybody else caught fish on.  My few fish were caught on the western end of Big Green Brake.

Made my first excursion to Caddo today in order to prepare for my TCTC debut.  Brother and I launched out of the park (williams park?) off Hwy 1 at about 2:30.  With trusty map and GPS in hand we took off.  Found a nice looking spot (big green break maybe? I think i was lost) and on my fifth pitch caught a nice fat bellied sow about 4lbs on a tube(Hey I like this lake  :).  A few casts later my brother caught a thin 17.5 inch fish on a senko.  Went to a few other places and got no more bites.  Tossed a spinner bait a bit and then headed in.  Great looking lake, but man was it rough and HUGE, size on LA maps does not do it justice.

Is there any topwater bite this early out there? Any luck with that anyone?

Jay
WHO DAT TALK BOUT BEAT DEM SAINTS?

Paul Keith

Jay,
The bite was slowed after this past front with all the rain but is starting to pick back up. Once it gets a little warmer the topwater bite should get going by fishing over and through the vegetation. Buzzbaits and poppers are usually good until the frog bite gets going good thereafter. Give it a few more weeks and its on.... ~gator

Railroader

Well make sure to tell the fish to be on this sunday.. i know you have them trained by now..

Hawgwild

Hey Dr. Jay...I'll probably see you on the water too...I'll be getting ready for the next ABA on Caddo in April... ~c~

I do like Caddo but the slots do get frustrating at times...Just be aware that the slots and limits are different between the Texas and LA sides..A legal 17.5 inch fish in LA would be a violation if you went into the Texas side......

Also..DON"T run on plane unless you are on a channel...many old stumps and old oil well pillings are all over the lake..it may look clear but it is not..many boats have been ripped by sucker rods..they are eveywhere..

Paul and others give some great reports, but 2 baits that have allways produced for me this time of year are a natural crawfish rattletrap and black/blue jig.....Topwater should pick up soon and a clear tiny torpedo works well for me also..

Good luck..you'll really enjoy Caddo..

Got to Caddo at 7am., the lake was slick. Fish shallow water till 10:30, missed two fish. I seen seven trees in the middle of a pocket that was about 6ft. deep with no grass. I throw in on the first tree and she hit it, missed him. I went to the second tree, casted on the shady side and she nailed it. (I COULD NOT TURN HER) she came off. Hit the third tree with no luck. Went to the fourth tree, it had some old boards nailed to it, casted on shady side and I got her, she weighed 10.26. I aint through!!! Fished the fifth tree and had one pulled off. I think it was a small one!!! Fished the six tree with no luck. The seventh tree was a leaner. I through down the shady side and she nailed it, she weighed 8.9 on my scales. I ran out of trees, fished two more hours without a bite. Go to www.caddolakeguide.net for photos and more information.

Danny, Gotta love multiple trophy fish in one trip. I guess I need to spend more time on Caddo ......... Were you just fishing or did you have a client? ~gator

Hawgwild

Wow...nice day on the lake with those two fish....Just wish I could hang into either one of them... :)

Scottie

I was by myself, I would not have caught  them if I had a client. I usaually don't run singles with guest. (Unless they are after a big fish)
Plus, I think boat position played the most important part. I was just in the right spot at the right time.
