Hey guys, I'm new to the site, just signed up yesterday.  I fished in the KTBS tourney as well.  I have lived in SHV for about a year now.  I fished on Caddo in the tourney, and caught a 5 lb'er on a terminator spinner bait, but couldn't get another good one to go with it.  We lost one really nice one that I think would have put us in the money, but oh well.  It was my first time to fish in a tourney and also first time on Caddo.  We put in at Shady rest and fished the frog island area.  Any good info on the lake would be greatly appreciated.  Also I am thinking about joining a bass club if ya'll have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Well first a very welcome to the site segleskirq....and good deal on the big bass in the Tourny...wish you could have got another to match also..

I fish Caddo alot but haven't really been on it since probably last October mostly due to low water...I generally fish the Texas side in the Big Cypress area...super lake and hope it get some water back in it soon..

Guess my best baits are chrome/blue rattletrap and pretty soon a natural crawfish rattletrap...

As to tournys, I and some others here fish the ABA and there are plenty of other local clubs also...You can find a few at the top of the page in the dropdown box called "Find Your Bass Club".... The next ABA will be on the Red River out of Clarks on Feb.. 19...

Welcome to the site and enjoy..

hey guys. went on caddo this morning, caught 7. Had one good over, the rest were slot. The lake seems to be up a good 5 inches, visible current on the west side. Fish weren't really aggressive til about 10. Water temp was near 45-47 degrees early, that seemed to push some fish i had been catching back down a little deeper. Yea papa its nice to have that big line....especialy on caddo.

Hey Nick! Glad you are getting out and catching fish!

Did you know that you could start a new thread when you make a report? I just wondered because no one has done it yet ;)

Nice to know the water is up a bit, so what did you catch them on?  Jig?  Size? color? Trees, grass or what?

Hey Laurie, naww i didnt know that, lot of this is still new to me, but im slowly catchin on. Fogy, most of those fish come off of the 3-4ft flats, but there a few different patterns to chose from right now. The one over-fish weighed close to 5.5lb, she was on a tree in about 3ft.

Went to caddo this morning, took my dad, we had a good day the fish were bitiing.. the first spot we went to i caught a 3.5 and missed one. the next spot we caught 2 slots on jigs in 2ft. the water is clear you can see the bottom. the  next spot i caught a slot and missed one. then we ran up to caddo grocery turn right and there was about 10 boats in the boat row.. i guess the whites are in there now? so we stopped and fished for a while not sure how many we caught but it was fun. all came on cranbaits i was using a bandit 200 and dad was throwing a thinner and shallower crankbait and thats what they wanted he caught the bigger ones maybe 2- 2.5lbs so it was a good day.. black bass jigs and one on a spinnerbait.2-4ft.

I am going in the morning, wondering if anone has heard if they are biting around big green break?

Also is the Texas side better for bigger fish.  Like I said before, I have just moved here recently, and am just starting to get fish the lake.  So suffice it to say I don't know alot about it.

Just be careful in the boat rows as the lake is low & Never, Never try and run outside the boat rows.  Some people may try it once and a while but they know that lake, make sure you idle when out of the rows.

As far as big fish, I guess most people say the TX size has bigger ones, but they have an inch bigger slot as well.  14-17 LA side and 14 -18 TX side.

OK, this is my 5th post, so maybe I can win some free stuff....lol...

I am wondering about jig fishing.  What size, color, and type of trailer?  I have never fished with jigs, so any advice would help.  From all that I have been reading, that is a pretty good artificial to use.  Thanks in advance.

I have only been on the site for about a week, but have already learned a great deal from all of ya'll, and it's greatly appreciated.

I just got my 1989 Skeeter SF150 with a 115 yamaha in May, first one ever, so I am just starting to get on the bigger lakes.  Before that I normally just fished small private ponds.

Thanks Fogy,  when I'm at work today, I'll have to read up on it.  Nothing better to do at work, than to learn new fishing techniques. :roll2:

Your right,  I know we are getting a bit off topic on this thread but wanted to make sure you knew that should you need anything here on Ultimatebass.com you just let us know.

OH  ;D  and good luck fishing Caddo.

Ok everyone see that nice transition back to the lake, no need to send the ruleanator after me.   ~roflmao

Yea Id definately say "everything is bigger in Texas", especially if you're looking to hit that wall hanger. However, there have been a lot of good fish that have come out of Jeem's Bayou around Feb.-Mar.

Nick,

Jeems bayou is the area that I have been fishing.  Mostly the frog island area and we have done pretty good.  In the past few weeks we have caught 3 over 5 lbs and a couple of 4's mostly in the 3-5 foot range on the cypress trees.  Almost all of the have been caught on a chartruese and white terminator spinner bait.

Although it was not on my line :'( I know of at least one 12 and several over 10 out of Jeems in the past year. It is still lagging behind in big fish numbers but it is coming on.

I don't really know if I can contribute much to this conversation - but I hooked an absolute GIANT in Jeems once.  Couldn't land her, but I imagine she was around 10 pounds, if not bigger.  I love to fish in Jeems, it has usually been good to me.
