going to fish caddo friday and was wandering if the fish have been biting.  also wandering if anyone knows if you can still launch at potters point.

Railroader

I know the last time i was out there i saw paul keith launch from there..?

bryan

i haven't been to caddo in a while and was reading about people having trouble with stumps in the middle of the boat lanes.  Plan on fishing the high line area.  also wandering about the grass and pads in this area since the waters low and we haven't had a winter.  I guess most of the flats are pretty shallow.

Ron Fogelson

Bryan, the water is low, stumps are in the boat rows, but PaPa says if you are on plane you with go right over them, but if you idle you site lower in the water and will hit some.  Me, I rode in Mikes boat and we went a different way to the river then normal, but didn't have any trouble.  I have heard from most everyone to be careful  of C row.  The pads are thick, but they were all year long, you can at least work your way through them now as they are dieing off.

bryan

thanks, i will be fishing tomorrow and will give a post, hopfully a good one.

Bass fishing has been fair over the past week. The water temps are in the mid 50's and the water is still low. I have been using a couple of diiferent lures lately, starting with a V&M Pork Shad in colors of watermelon or junebug. I Texas rig this bait with a 4.0 hook and no weight. Fishing over the grass and through the pad stems have worked well. Another lure I have been using is a 1/2 oz. Cyclone Jig in colors of back/blue or mardi gras. Stick with the cypress trees in 2-4 ft. of water fishing slow. I like to use a V&M Mud Bug as a trailer. The crappie are fair using white or green 1/16 oz. jigs fished 3-4 ft. deep using a bobber. All the launches are good except Crips and Tuckers. Remember to be careful out there because there are stumps just under the surface in the boat lanes. Go to http://bayououtdoors.com to see the V&M line of baits. ~roflmao :roll2:

Went out on caddo today first time I ever been and managed 5 with 6 or 7 bites.  Was a tough day with all the wind thought it would have been a better day!not much size to any of them 3 unders and 2 slot fish.

BIG PAPA

Trey and I went today from about 11:00 till 4:00 and caught 16 missed at least 5-6 fish as they were in the stems and hitting very soft, plus the wind.
We went up in Bonham's arm down the boat row with the telephone poles. went all the way to the bank and started chunking blades, overcast, windy, and front coming, perfect Spinnerbait day. WRONG, after about 20 mins. Trey put on a black blue Senko (Real) and started catching fish after the second nice slot fish I put on a fakeo same color, after his forth fish I put on a watermelon Senko and promptly caught up, we battled back and forth until we had to go and dipshit caught a Bass while I was pulling the trolling motor up to tie me at 8 each. They would only hit it fished so slow it hurt, some picked it up off the bottom. We tried several different plastics with no luck  and checked the spinnerbait bite out several times with no bites. Bonham's arm is up in Jeems just a little ways from Shady acres, just where you make the hard right after you pass all the boat houses, just look for the tall poles on your left.

i have talked to a couple of people that tell me if you want to catch a wall hanger you must fish the texas side. just wandering if there is any truth to this. It just seems to me that there is more deeper water up in jeems, especially since the water is so low.

BIG PAPA

The majority of the really big fish do come from the Texas side and up north.
For several years they only put Florida Bass up north and west it seems. They have however started putting them in Jeems in the last few years. According to Robert Smith Robert is one of the Bass Life members that puts the fingerlings into the lake. The largest Bass I have caught in Jeems was just over 8 lbs. But I know of at least 1 over 12 and a couple over 10.

when you say up north do you mean up in the river and the bayous.

Do you think the different brands of sinko type baits made that big of difference??? all of mine the other day came off of spinners and 1 of a trap.  Tried through the sinko for a little but the wind was so bad on the 15 it was hard to work the bait which is why I stayed with the blad and trap.

Up north means the northern part of the lake , say from Big green break  up. few big fish come from the river
Bass fishing is hit and miss, I just watched the Bass Champs show last night. The winners caught 18+ lbs the first day on crankbaits, the second day at 10:00 or so they did not have a fish so they changed to plastics and caught 17Lbs.
Just because you or I caught fish on one type of bait one day does not mean much. With Bass every day and situation is different you have to find a tactic that will work that day. Yes some days the wind will keep you from fishing the way you would like and often you will come away frustrated because you cannot figure them out, but I think that is why we keep coming back

See where Nick won this years boat show tourney with 14+ Lbs. Congrats! We had 8 lbs. and did'nt even take them in after talking to several other anglers at the ramp and on the water. Think it took 10+ lbs. to make the cut. Time to go back south and get some more of those reds and specks. ;)
