I was there last week.  What few fish we caught were on a horny toad fished in the edge of the boat roads.  It seemed like the better places were where we could find hydrilla in the lily pads.  It looked like the lily pads are beginning to die.

We did find the white bass schooling in the open part of the lake west of the highline and had a ball with a small white crankbait.  We caught like 20 of them.

Where is Caddo Lake? :-\

Caddo lake is just a couple of miles south of Shreveport on I 49, just past the construction zone.  You can see part of it from the road.  I caught one of my fish off of that big cypress tree on the north bank, right next to the interstate.   A couple of people honked at me as I was unhooking it.  ;)

Fished our little spot on Jeem's today from sunup till about 12:30....and had good luck for a third time in  a row.

Shad were bubbling up in the area all day long, and there were frequent explosions of schooling bass - one exceptional time a school of some very good sized ones (judged by the impressive smacks of the water) right at the base of a cluster of cypress trees.

We caught a few dinks, but most of the fish we caught were at least 2-3 pounds.  I caught one that was an easy 3, maybe more.  Got one on a buzzbait, but I caught the rest on a Junebug worm.  Daniel caught his on a Watermelon Red worm.  I tried the "horny toad" again, but no takers.

You know you are having a good day when you stay in one spot the whole day with anglers checking out the hole every now and then.  We felt a little greedy, but hey - we were catching fish and we were there first!  Not sure what the etiquette calls for, but I wasn't leaving!!!

BIG PAPA

Hey Gabby good fish but don't you knw that you will give away your "HOLE" by showing pictures like that. I could go straight to the tree in the background just over your right shoulder. ;D

Gabby

Wow, I guess you are right, Papa.....  Oh well, I gave you one (like you didn't already know!  lo ), now you have to take me fishing and show me a few....

Hope to see you on the 7th...

Gabby

BIG PAPA

Yeah I have fished both of those spots for a long time. Trey caught his first 5lb. Bass on Caddo off of the tree in the lower picture. ;D

Hit the lake (Caddo) this morning with Sears from sunup till about 12:30.  Didn't get a fish myself - fishing mostly a worm (Junebug, Watermelon Red, & Red Shad/Green Flake), spinnerbait, Rat-L-Trap, & Jig.  Not but one bite on the trap, but he bit & ran.

Sears caught 2 unders, one on a Rat-L-Trap - the other on a crank, and a nice slot fish.  Caught them all up on Jeems along the trees near a drop off.  It was cold and windy all morning, and didn't seem to turn on when the sun came out and it warmed up a little.

Pleasant surprise to see Papa and get to visit with him a little, and he met Sears for the first time.

It was super tough until about 1:30 and then the jig bite picked up a little. I had 2 fish an over and a dink on a jig a 1:00 then caught 3 slots and 2 dinks on a jig between about 1 and 2:30. could not find much early although I did catch a 6+ about 9:00 on a Black Blue 3/8 oz. jig. finally started catching a few in shallow water after the sun came out and warmed the south banks up. everything came in Jeems. Temps were about 59 -60 early and got up to 63 on south banks protected from the wind.
7 total 1 weigh fish. I hate slots >:(
Was glad to meet Chet (Sears) and visit with Gabby and talk about the Palestinian problems. That is a very interesting subject ~c~
Someday gabby will have to write us an article about the middle East. :-*

Hey papa, I enjoyed talking about it with you.  It is a very confusing and misunderstood situation.  I have seen a lot of things over there that would make your head spin, and it is a very different world.  All I can really say is - every time I return, I feel like kissing the ground because we definately live in the BEST country on the face of the Earth.

A great time to talk about this subject is while fishing.  That way, if you don't like something I say you can just pitch me over the side of the boat!  :o

Chet got my fever for Rat-L-Traps back.  You got me interested in pitching the ole jig - and believe it or not, I have yet to catch a fish on either.  You can imagine my eagerness to break that seal.

Good to see you today, and look forward to talking about stuff with you in the future.

Gabby I am going to have to put a rope across Jeems to keep you out of "my " spots. ;D The dead stump in that pic tells all. about 30 ft. to the right the flat starts dropping from 4 to about 8 ft. at the tree and then continues to drop into the old channel, this time of the year should be about 12 - 14 ft. between the boat and the Snag there are a bunch of old stumps some as big as 3 ft. in diameter. about 20 ft. from the boat and a little left of that line I have made a pretty large brush pile. But the best spot in there is the point across the channel. In an open tourney last Feb. Daniel Greene and I sat on that point and caught 6 fish over 16 inches on a rattle trap and could not weigh a single one, but of course it was still fun. We already had 2 big overs in the boat ( Daniel caught Both of them on a jig ) :'( and it was an Adrenalin rush every time we got hit.

LOL, don't worry papa - I always throw them back!!  Man, I would love to pick your brain sometime about good spots to fish.  I won't camp out on a spot someone shows me like I do in the spot where we met today (I found that one on my own, like many other people!).  I just like learning stuff about the lakes around here.  Starting to get more comfortable with Caddo, but I know it is a BIG lake!

P.S. - sounds like that stump field would be a hell of a place for a crankbait!

Gabby

BIG PAPA

Don't worry buddy Caddo is a big lake and there is plenty of room for all. I just like messing with you about your pictures ;D
P.S. I even know the marker number that was a few feet to your left when you took that picture ;)

The "HYDRILLA GORILLA" is the real deal! I caught 16 today on Caddo,  11 on the Gorilla ( and had at least that many blowups that I missed) and 5 on spinnerbait and assorted plastics, all came out of Hydrilla, Of course if you fish from Green Break North you will be fishing Hydrilla.. Sad thing is that bite will probably not last much longer, maybe till this weekend  ;D  . There are places that must be several hundred acres in size that are pretty much unfishable. I had not been on Caddo since June before Sat. and I cannot believe the Hydrilla. The Gorilla goes over grass and junk like a dream I fished places I usually only fish a frog
Hey Ricky If I recall you said you had the South Louisiana Distributorship, do you know who has North La., ;)

Hi,  I am Rickoos's wife, he said not to hold it against me...:-)

Rickoos

Papa,

Glad you liked the Gorilla, I really think it speaks for itself and gets the job done. I'm proud that you caught fish on it and got to see how well it works in the Hydrilla, which is a plus for sure! :-*

With a little help from my friends, I hope to have some in your neck of the woods soon, and I will also be working on the Tx. & Ark. area's too! I have been talking and working some area's here at home and then up your way. For now, just shoot me a email with your needs and I will get those monkeys coming your way........

hit caddo today didnt get on the lake till 1:00pm tried new spots only caught one over 3lber on the jig black-blue with black pork #11 was reeling it back he hit at it but missed threw back and it hit again and missed it got it to the boat could see the jig just under the water and there was a head just under it he took it  when he turned  i set the hook jump twice swung it in the boat lol was too  funny 3rd times a charm.. not a good idea to swing a 3lb in the boat lol.. the area toward tuckers is taken over by grass never seen it that bad.

Trey

Went ot Caddo yesterday afternoon.  I tried some spots up Jeem's Bayou with no luck, so I decided to go exploring.  I went all the way North to the Harper's Ferry Bridge.  Beware, the boat road runs out before you get there!  I made three pitches with my jig to some trees, when I saw a swirl.  I flipped over to it, and I felt that familiar tap.  When I set the hook, I saw a flash of the fish's side.  It was BIG!!!  I knew right then and there that I had set the hook on a 15# bass!  I have never fought a fish like this one before.  I was using a 7' heavy flipping rod,  and 30# test Spider Wire.  This fish took me all around the bow of the boat and fought so hard that I almost lost my rod three times!  Two other boats that were in the area stopped fishing and came over to watch me land this fish.  I fought it for about 15 minutes; I know because 5 songs came on the radio and I was still fighting.  I finally got this thing close enough to see the monster hawg.  It was a three foot long Grennal!  I have never seen one this big, nor have I ever heard of them hitting a jig.  As I was contimplating what to do with this thing, it spit my jig out and saved me the hassel of bringing that monster onboard.  It was half of the size of my front deck (carpeted area) and I have a 19 foot boat!  My hands were shaking so bad when I got done that I could barely fish.  No other bites before the rain and wind ran me off the lake.  I hate that it was a trash fish, but man what a fight!

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish and you'll never see him again!

Ron Fogelson

LOL  thats one heck of a fish story Trey!  The first one I ever saw was also on Caddo, it eat a TX-Rigged craw worm fished in a shallow lay-down.  I fought it to the boat & went to lip him when I saw all the teeth!  LOL  About fell in the water trying to get away from him!  Brought him in with a net & then tried to figure out how to get my hook & lure back without losing a finger!  Best thing was this was during a S&S tournament! Wasted about 20min on that fish.   lo lo

Play Nice & leave the Grennal alone they bite!
