Yes and No  :-\

Alligator bayou is a bayou off of the main river. If you go threw goverment ditch and don't take any of the turns to the right, after you pass the third turn to the right you are truely in the river. From the sounds of it folks are catching a lot of fish that way. Now if you go far enough (several miles) you will come to a bridge, if you go under that bridge you will need a Texas license.

I went back on Saturday and only picked up four fish on the river, on a chrome Pop-R.  One wasn't much bigger than the bait.   :(    None were "overs".

Gabby

Fished Saturday (for the first time in nearly 2 months!!!) and Good Lord it felt great to catch a fish!

We fished Caddo (mainly Jeems near C40ish) from about 7:30 to around noon.  We had to jump around launchs until we could find one that didn't crank up the trailer.  Old trusty Shady did the trick.

Anyways, started off with a buzzbait, but no takers.  Started tossing a fluke and missed a dink at the boat.  Spinner didn't work either.  Then I started pitching a Junebug Ole Monster around the trees, and caught a few small ones.  Ended up with 5 or 6, and my buddy caught 2.

The real fun came when we went down Jeems Bayou a bit.  We were getting rained on by inchworms - and I mean it was covered in what I though were spider webs that they were getting caught in.  Regardless, I tossed my worm at a tree and bounced it a few times along a root.  Felt what seemed to be a less than impressive nibble, and let it take again (lost a few by setting too early).  After the second little tug, I tried to set the hook.

I have NEVER felt power from a fish like that.  Needless to say, I came up with nothing, but when a set it - whatever was on the other end tried to show me who was boss.  It actually reaggrivated a muscle in my forearm as it tried to swim off after my set.  How he got away without a hook in his mouth was beyond me, because I pulled two fish clean out of the water with hooksets earlier.

I just wish I could have seen how big that thing was.  I now have that SICK feeling in my stomach.  Oh well....

I only caught a couple Saturday morning off the river, but everything I have caught in the last couple of weeks has fought VERY aggresively, down to one little fella that wasn't much bigger than the bait.  The water up there must be full of vitamins or viagra right now, cause it seems like every bass up there puts up a mighty stiff fight.

:shocking:

Yeah, I forgot to mention that.  I caught mostly little buggers under a pound.  One of them had the audacity to bend my rod like he weiged 4 pounds.  I love catching bass on worms...

Hey Dave, it is good to be back.  I love playing baseball, and unfortunately the season is over (except for 3 games against a New York All Star team next weekend).  The baseball took up all my time on the weekends, but now it is back to fishing....

I would go see Dr. Ritter, but I don't think I can afford it any more!!!!!  It is related to my wrist surgery, though.  How is your gimpness doing?

Gabby

Gabby, Splints off (except when fishing or "there is a possibility of falling") in therapy 3 times a week. I am gaining more ROM with each week and am looking for a return to work in the nest 2-3 weeks. My wrist is still very stiff and hurts alot with alot activity. Hey I did get to keep the pin and I have a pic of the wrist with the pin in place. I cant put it on the board though because its a print out......Keep it up Gabby, and kick some NY butt next weekend.............. Dave

Was planning on fishing Caddo this weekend or monday. Any tips on what my top 3 lures should be to start with this time of year. I've only fished Caddo once ( last nov.) and got skunked.  :help:

Buzz bait spinnerbait and jig, in that order would be my choice. Of course if you like frogs I would certainly throw a frog for a while also. ;)

Mitch, on top of the Buzz bite, throw a sinko or sinko style lure in the pads,,,,  DO NOT over work it.  Use no weight on a 3 or 4/0 hook and just pitch it in to the pads as far as you can.  Let it sink, and hop it to the next opening.  Use JuneBug or Watermelon and you should get bit.  Also the tree Islands, use a white BuzzBait cast along side the edges of the tree line.   My best spinnerbait color on Caddo is white or clown.  Hope you have fun let me know when your going maybe I'll leave Bist long enough to go as well.  How do you feel you did on your test??  Hope you did well.

Fogy,
Thanks for the input. Is a sinko the same as a fluke? Going monday and would like to follow you out there if you want to go. I'll call you for directions if you can't make it. I tested PFE only and think i did pretty well. If not then i bombed it. Just hoping and praying for the next few weeks. Did you find out your MSgt scores yet?

No a sinko is more like a fat straight tailed worm then anything, kinda just shimmers as it falls, where a fluke is shaped more like a baitfish and is kinda twitched.  I fish a Basspro style can't think of the name right now.  But just cast it out and let it sink, then I lift it up like a jig and let it fall again.  I didn't find anything out yet, I didn't do well.  Between the time away while we were in Iraq, getback into the swing of this both here at home & work & FISHING! ;D  I couldn't even find my SKT books.  Oh well happy to be home, got a new boat & family and love to fish so I'm not going to bitch. Life is good.  Be happy to go on Monday if we are not getting carpet put in, will let you know this weekend.  Heading back to Bist so you have fun @ work!!   >:D

Has anyone been picking up any fish in Jeems Bayou lately?  If so, where and on what?  All the fishing I've been doing over there has been on the Texas side lately.  Haven't been up Jeems since early summer.

Gabby

Fished Caddo Saturday morning from sunup til about 1pm.  Did all our fishing in Jeems Bayou, and had a pretty good run up until the wind came around 11ish...

Caught about 13 fish, half around 2-3 lbs & very few dinks. All came on worms (Junebug & Watermelon Red), except a couple Dan caught on a Chug Bug.

We saw a LOT of shad activity, with the occasional school.  I had heard the new Zoom "Horny Toad" had been really effective on Sam Rayburn, so I gave it a try.  The first cast was on an area in which I had just seen a fish blow up on some shad, and he took the toad.  Unfortunatly, it is basically a chunk of plastic & I wasn't quick enough to set the hook on him.  Was pretty cool though, because we were both watching when it happened to see the action on the lure.

Had a good time on my "monthly" fishing trip....  even though I missed about 12 fish....

Mike Cork

Good to see you are still getting to go fishing once in a while... Sound like Caddo bass are putting on the fall feed bags...

I feel like I am getting to know the lake a little better these days.  I found a hole that produces for me nearly every time I hit it.  Good fish too.

I am still wondering if it is going to take a court order for me to catch a fish over 5 lbs..... :help:
