JT this time of the year on Caddo you will probably do better up on the north end. The lily pads around Tuckers and over in Ames Spring are usually productive early with Buzz bzits or frogs. One of my favorite tricks is a fluke fished weightless in , over and through lily pads.
Try any area around the boat rows close to the river. Also as Mike said the deeper trees are really a good place to get a big fish. Along with Whatley Island there are some good trees on the East side of tar Island. and a little fished spot is marshall break just south of Jeems Bayou there are some pretty deep trees out on the south end of Marshall break that are usually productive this time of year.
If you stick to the north end and lily pads early and fish a big worm as the sun comes out around the deeper trees you should find some fish. One other thing if you don't mind working the pads with a worm you can get some good fish out of the pads by working a worm down in the holes all day long sometimes.

Brent and I went on caddo last saterday even and had a little luck but we caught more of our fish up the river past the hwy 43 bridge.   We did not get anything really big but had fun.   We caught all them on a white buzz bait running it as slow as you can.  Brent I had a great time cant what to do it again with you.

I was up there last Friday, and hate to admit that I only boated four fish.  I went looking for that spot below Whatley Island, but was past it before I realized it.

A friend was also up there that day, and was fishing on a boat row that goes out from Tucker's landing toward the river, and he and another guy supposedly caught around 50 smaller schooling bass on a white fluke, fished off the top of the grass.  He said they could have caught 100, but they only stayed until noon.  He said they were fishing just before you get into the river.  Personally, I've never been out of Tuckers, so I can't tell you more....but I assure you of one thing:  I WILL know more about it before too long!!!

I think I know the area you are talking about. It is known as a place to catch a quick limit of unders, if you are there early and late you can catch some good fish too. The biggest problem is that they are schoolers and they tend to move about the time you have them figured out. Let us know

Hey Mike,
I wish I could be there that long however we have to be back to work on Saterday. Its a little difficult to make several trips to Caddo in a year seeing how its a five to six hour drive!! Perhaps we can hook up some time later in the year, I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for Chris Tues and Wednesday. Well I need to get off this comp. and get ready to trade in the big red fire engine that I'm driving for my truck and boat and head to Fork and Caddo!!!!! ITS TIME TO GO !!! ;D ;D lo ~c~ ~gf

bassmatt

Hey everyone, I have never had this poor of a time catching fish on Caddo as we have had the last two days!!! My buddy and I have a grand total of three fish for two days of hard fishing!!! I've also never seen Caddo with this much Hydrilla, it is so thick that 90% of the spots that I was use to fishing is covered up and I tried all the locations and tips that all of you gave me however I wasn't able to put any fish in the boat! Monday we fished Fork for half a day and had fifteen with the largest around 4lbs so we are going to head back to Fork for the next two days.  ???

Chris

Sorry it didnt work out for you  ???. I didnt make it out there because my back has been killing me lately. I may try to go tomorrow if it cooperates.

Mike Cork

Bassmatt, sorry the bite was so tough.....

Did you give the river a shot, the guys have been catching 20 fish a night but of course it is night fishing, don't know if you are into that or not but it can be a blast on Caddo.

Hey guys and gals,
Back home now, we did fish the river some, I don't do night fishing. One cool thing on Caddo was that we saw an approx. 5 1/2- 6 1/2 ft gator in the same area both days! Fork was tough today because of the 1700 MPH winds, we found a protected point and was on the down wind side, the wind current had some small schoolies stack like cord wood and we lost count around 25, they were all less than 2 1/2 lbs. however it was still fun!
Stay safe, Matthew :)

I took my 8 year old to Caddo today and went to my normal spots. The carolina rig did not work at all  .We went about 2pm and quit around 530 . I caught one fish (17 inches) on a texas rigged baby brush hog thrown to the edge of hydrilla. My son caught about 10 bream and put that pole down once he saw me catch the bass ..He had to have a brush hog after that. Not a whole lot of folks out there today.

Trey

I had some luck the other day using floating palstics on the edges of the pad fields.  I tried a blade and a trap, but no takers.

I talked to a guy today at work who does our uniforms. He lives on Caddo and said he has been catching quite a few on a Horny Toad. He said the color really didn't matter. He works it like a buzzbait around grass and lily pads.

Trey

I've tried the Horny Toads a couple of times and only got two hits on it.  I was using a watermelon red flake color.  I liked the idea of it having one worm hook truned up.  I thought that would help with hooksets and the strike to net ratio that is so poor with frogs.  If you say that they are doing good with them, then I will try one more time.  I bought some of those Strike King poppin frogs that Papa mentioned a while back.  They have a trailer hook in the package.  I could only find the popping kind, though.  Does anybody know if they make a regular frog, and if so where you can buy it?  I have talked to some other poeple that like the Horny Toad and they said they were using a bright color in the day, and a dark color at night.

The Bass Pro shop has a whole bunch of different frogs. I have been using the Horny Toad on the river. I hardly ever miss a fish that hits it. I use a 5 wide gap offset worm hook. I run it through like a texas rig and skin hook it on the top of the horny toad. This works good.

Trey

I tried using a wide gap hook, but I was using a 4/0.  I will giver her another try with a larger hook.  I am planning on checking the lake out Saturday night (I have a night tourney there next weekend).

Trey bacon's usually has the "regular frog" by strike king and Sportsmans Depot usually has them,

I was out on Caddo today, and I didn't get even a hit fishing the edges of the hydrilla and lily pads in my usual places.

However, I went up on the river and picked up several nice fish on a worm.  I was fishing a Junebug color off the banks, mostly off of single standing cypress trees.  They were hitting pretty aggresively when they hit.

I'm going to try again on Saturday, but the weekend traffic usually screws up the river for me.  I'm going to try to beat the crowd and hope that the cool morning keeps some of the jet-ski'ers and innertubers off the water for a few hours.

Trey

I went to Caddo this weekend and got skunked.  I haven't been blanked in a while, so I guess I was due.  I went to Little Green Break and Alligator Bayou and Jeem's Bayou.  I used buzzbaits, worms, tubes, blades, cranks, traps, and jigs without even a bump.  Is Alligator Bayou in the river that everyone's talking about, or is it near Twin Island?  I haven't fished that side of the lake very much, but I want to find out where this river is.
