Oil wells....A couple of the areas I fished on Caddo yesterday had working oil wells....

Do you think this affects the bass moving into the area or just something they get use to?  I did catch a small 13 incher near one so maybe it doesn't matter..

Bass fishing has been fair to good over the past week. The water temps are in the low to mid 50's and the water is still low but coming up some with the recent rains. I have been using a couple of different lures lately, starting with a V&M tube in colors of black/red or junebug. I Texas rig this bait with a 4.0 hook and 1/4 oz. weight. Pitching to the cypress in 2-4 ft. of water. Another lure I have been using is a red or chrome lipless crankbait over the grass in 4-5 ft. of water. Just retrieving at a steady pace ticking the top of the grass. Sometimes you may find the bass bunched up in the grass this time of the year using the lipless crankbait. The crappie are fair using white or green 1/16 oz. jigs fished along the channel near the government ditch. The white and yellow bass are thick fishing off the bottom using small spoons and roadrunners in front of Johnsons. Go to http://bayououtdoors.com to see the V&M line of baits.  ;D

Had a day off so headed back to Caddo again....Bite was really slow early but picked up on up in the day when the sun started peeking through a little..

Still learning the area but had an OK day...Hit a little area around E15 but not hits...water was pretty muddy there..Went on up to Frog Island and worked that area for awhile with no hits...

Motored on up to near end of markets in Jeems and came back down a little and started working some trees and moved closer to the bank..

Finally stuck a Jackfish on Jig...I had had a couple hits on tube but seemed to be hitting and letting go.....Guess it was around 10:00 am by now...Got and hit and missed on tube..came back with a white spinner and hung a nice slot fish...

Worked the area a little more with spinner and picked up a good keeper......Run back to Bonhams Arm and action started picking up better...Caught a 3 llb'er on some lone trees and another good slot near there..both on white spinner....

Worked another group of trees and picked up another keeper...hung another good one but  came off at boat..looked like a good slot firsh...both on white spinner...

I had launched in Buzzards Bay so headed back and worked Big Green break a little...Pickec up a couple more keepers...and headed in..

Water averaged 56-57 degrees...and only slightly stained in most places...Water temps will probably drop as temps will be in low 30's all week and low of 23 degrees Monday.. :shocking:

I fished jigs, tubes, traps, and a couple of creatures but all fish except the jack came on the white Terminator spinners..

With the water temps now falling into the mid to upper 40's the bass bite has slowed down. The lake is still coming up and filling back in with recent heavy rains. Dark colored jigs and tubes pitched to the cypress will catch bass with the extreme low water temps. As the water warms back up some later this week a lipless crankbait in colors of chrome or red thrown over the grass flats should pick up some bass also. The crappie are good using white or green 1/16 oz. jigs fished along the channel near the government ditch. The white and yellow bass are thick fishing off the bottom using small spoons and roadrunners in front of Johnsons. Go to http://bayououtdoors.com to see the V&M line of baits. ~gator

Anybody know if the Oil City ramp is worth using right now?  That's normally where I put in.

Hawgwild

I think you are talking about the Williamson park ramp..

We put in there Saturday 2 weeks ago with no porblems...plenty of water and I think it may have come up a little more by now...

I always put in at Shady rest, and last thursday I had no problems at all.  The water was definately up.  We had a little bit of trouble at the KTBS tourney, but since then launching has been easy.

Tubeflipper

Thanks guys.
Just looked at the weather forecast.  It's turning cold tomorrow morning.  Looks like a nice LONG cold front is coming through.  Just in time for my 4 day weekend.   ~xyz

I passed caddo up to go to Murvaul yesterday, kinda glad I did.  I was worried about getting out of Tuckers. Caught 4 bass from 3 - 6.2lbs. They were full of eggs and ready for the full moon next month.  I post a pic if I can figure it out. lo

Not much has changed over the past week.
With the water temps now falling into the mid to upper 40\'s the bass bite has slowed down. This spring is looking to be a great one. The water is up and there is plenty of grass. Also the bass are full of eggs and ready to spawn as soon as water temps are warm enough. The crappie are good using white or green 1/16 oz. jigs fished along the channel near the government ditch. The white and yellow bass are thick fishing off the bottom using small spoons and roadrunners in front of Johnsons. Go to http://bayououtdoors.com to see the V&M line of baits. ~rain

Fished our club tourney out of Shady Acres on a very cold Saturday on Caddo Lake.  We expected a very busy lake with the Big Bass Classic going on as well but suprisingly...the weather must have kept everyone except us diehards off the lake.  Morning air temperature of about 36 with ice on our boat as we trailered back to Shreveport. Winds 15 to 25 mph all day...do I need to say anymore.  We'll my partner and I had 4 bites all day.  We were fortunate enough to put those 4 bites in the livewell for a total weight of 19.25 lbs.  We had one that went over 6...a 5+lber and a couple of 4lbers.  Ticket was rattletraps fished over grass flats on the Tx side.  Water temp stayed 51 degrees all day long.
Ranger Boats aren't Skeeter-ed, Nitro-ed or

Lake water was C-O-L-D today. Fished from Jeems bayou to the river in Uncertain and the warmest I found was 45. The majority was 42-44 degrees. Fishing was cold too.... ~rain

Trey and I will be up in jeems in the morning looking for mamma, and I think I know where she is ;D

Papa,
Not a bite in 6 hrs. But did better today. Had 4 with 1 over. :'(

BIG PAPA

Well I must have fished today where you did yesterday :'( I caught 1 Bass, a really fat slot fish on a B/B jig, and many Jacks on rogues and traps. After the wind came up a little I just knew I would get into them. I stayed up in Jeems and just fished old spots along the creek but my one Bass came from a log in about 2 ft.

Thanks for the updates fellas.  Let me know when that water temp gets a little more reasonable. ~shade
