BIG PAPA

I talked to Paul this afternoon. He said he caught a lot of big fish today, in fact he said his best 5 went 31 lbs. Said he got to the lake about 9:00 and had 2  7's in the boat in about 10 minutes.

we saw paul out there yesterday, he was fishing the area where i have been catching my fish. he saw me catch that 5.5 wednesday and terry caught a 5.4 yesterday a 3.8 and a 18in that we didnt weigh. so we had 3 that was 11lb or so. and when we were leaving we saw another spot he was fishing might have to give it a try before december. we only had 1 bite in that area after 8am everything was from 0715-0800? water was in the mid 50's and still clear.

Paul Keith

Had a real good day yesterday(friday)....Didnt catch a lot of numbers though, just caught solid fish. Only 1 problem though...NO PATTERN WHATSOEVER! Caught 9 bass with the 5 largest going about 31 lb. 2- 7's came quick in pads. After that every fish came from a different spot on different cover using a different bait or color for every fish.....???? Just happen to hit some good ones though. Flukes, spinnerbaits, rattletraps, jig, senko seem to be the ticket for the day. :-\
About a week ago with a friend we caught 35 bass(well.... 20 blacks and 15 whites) in the area that railroader is talking about but they have not come up since for me. Several of the fish were some nice ones too. Fish were in there very heavy this time last year but the water is much lower this year.

Mike Cork

Sounds like you guys at least know where to start.

Paul does the water seem clearer to you this year than the previous. I am thinking with the lack of ran that the water is extremely clear threw out most of the lake, at least on the texas side anyway.

Mike Cork

Caddo has definately been hit or miss, lately if you didn't get an early bit it is tough to get one at all. Thanks for the update.

I'm sure come ABA 12-3 or our club tourny 12-4 the fish will be some where else? thats how it always works. i know terry is going monday or tuesday to look up in jeems just incase our pattern fails. im not going to be able to make tomorrow on the red so good luck to the rest of the TCTC guys..

BIG PAPA

Yes Mike the water is clearer up north , partly because of the lack of rain but also because of the filtering from all the grass. I know the spot that you guys are talking about very well. That is where I caught the 9.13 earlier and many big fish over the last couple of years.
If we could get just a little current going it would probably explode in there, with all the grass and pads they do not really have that much area and they could stack up. Last year in late Oct Dusty and I had a double with both fish over 7lbs. when they blew up chasing shad, I believe there were some bigger fish than that in there that day. Looks like we are going to have a party on the day of our tourney ;D

Paul Keith

Mike, yes the water is clearer because of lack of rain and heavy grass filtration. The big problem is that lake of the pines is 5-6 ft. low and they have to fill before we get any decent amount of water ........ Unless we get some HUGE amounts of rain and extreme long periods of freezing weather this fall and winter Caddo is going to be in sad shape next year. :'(

Mike Cork

I am thinking that a underwater weed wacker is going to be necessary. And we thought the only place to fish was the boat roads. The only good thing I can think of is that the hatch from this years spawn should have an awesome survival rate with all the vegetation :-*

Lake temps are now down in the low to mid 50's and most of the water is low and clear. Still a lot of vegetation out there but dying back pretty quick. The bass have started their fall feeding and are showing up occasionally in schools. Have had a couple of real good days over the past week with 2-5 fish stringers over 28 lb. and a couple of real bad days. A very inconsistent bite. My best bites have been coming early and mid afternoon. The bass have not stuck to any pattern or cover on a regular basis. Trees, grass, pads, open water have all been producing bites. Fishing the edge of the grass and pads has been probably the most reliable. Black/blue or watermelon senkos, white or chart/white spinnerbaits, shad colored flukes have been working best for me. Crappie can be caught using shiners on the edge of the river in the pads from Johnsons to Marthas Crossing[/font]. ;)

i bought me some more little georges and im ready to caddo, but will have to wait till after the sale at BPS tomorrow..

This is a public service announcement.... on caddo boat row A the one that runs in front on potters? is unsafe to run on plane. noble told me that Ben clemens was idling through there and hit some stumps. and terry went today and he told me that he hit something running through there. so if you plan on running the A boat row (papa). use caution..

Mike Noble

Ditto on what Railroader said.  I was told that there were stumps that were 3 feet in diameter below the waters surface along boat row A.  That might hurt.

Thanks for the warning  ~c~ Boat row A is the main row that runs from the dam to the river up by where the secret hole is :roll2:
Boat row c runs in front of potters. Last time I was there Dusty spotted an old johnson outboard motor in the middle of the c boat row and we did see a few stumps on that boat row after I had already run it a couple of times. OUCH Brian if you do not run the A boat row I will beat you to the "secret spot" ~beer~ In all seriousness if anyone does choose to run please be careful and stay close to the markers.

Lake temps are still down in the low to mid 50's and most of the water is low and clear. Still a lot of vegetation out there but dying back pretty quick. The bass have started their fall feeding and are showing up occasionally in schools. Fished are ganged up but in very few places and not always consistent. Wear them out one day and struggle the next, you know the story. My best bites have been coming early and mid afternoon. The bass have not stuck to any pattern or cover on a regular basis. Trees, grass, pads, open water have all been producing bites. Fishing the edge of the grass and pads has been probably the most reliable. Crappie can be caught using shiners on the edge of the river in the pads from Johnsons to Marthas Crossing. The lake is extremely low and dangerous so be careful because there are a lot stumps in the center of the boat lanes. :)

Hey paul we have our club tourny out there this sunday so please save some fish for us. i was out there about two weeks ago in a blue nitro and you was fishing down from me in the turn.  ;) you know where i mean, so save some for me lol.. thanks

Mike Noble

Fished Caddo today in the TCTC.  Caught 11 bass...4 slot, 4 dinks, and 4 under.  Fish came on spinnerbait and red rattletrap.  Pretty windy again today but could find areas out of the wind.

Fished the TCTC tourny today, i dont think i can stand another day of fishing with the wind we had the last two days. we caught 9 total. 1 over 4 under. the over came on a senko. it had a 5 or 6lb head but only a 3.33lb pound body. the unders came on a c-rig lizard on a point 6-8ft water. we culled once, caught 3 slots. we had 7.89 total. for 1st place. :shocking: glad caddo was finally good to us. cant wait till next year.....  ~beer~ hears one for this year finally being over with...

Congrats out to all the winners!   ~c~

Sure was nice fishing with you guys again, been a while, hopefully I'll be around a bit more for 06.

Mike Noble and I hit the river.  Using 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2onz spinnerbaits in white & white and chartruse both with turtle shell and willow leaf blades.  All so used 3/4 onz red rattle traps.  The dang jack fish would not leave us alone.  Mike must have boated 25 or more with some real big ones coming on the traps.  I did find that there were to distinct grass lines just off the boat-row.  1st one was right at the boat-row about 2 foot deep and then the next was sitting at about 4 to 6 foot.  If I could get the spinner to fall right at the drop off from 2 to the 4 to 6 foot grass I would get bit.

Other then that it was chuck and wind all day.

THANKS FOR THE TRIP MIKE!  Had a blast
