Still telling stories there Railroader ~roflmao ~roflmao Glad to hear you caught some fish though ~c~

RattlinScottie, I haven't got a real good jig bite going yet but I also like the camo this time of year. But the few fish I have caught have all come on black and blue. There are some great jig threads in the Tips and Technique sections, you should check it out. You can get info from many different users there  :-*

Hi Mike...thanks and I'll check out that thread on the jigs...I tried to fish a jig some last few evenings with no luck on them...

I've had a ball the last few nights on Caddo...Big Cypress area....

Really love night fishing and with the near full moon last vew days I just had to go..

Caught many good fish Thursday night, Friday night, and tonight...Lots of slot fish with my best for the 3 nights just shy of 4 lbs.   I was using mostly solid black buzz baits and caught well over the limit each night...culled what I wanted to eat.. :)

Got into a few W. Perch before dark but mostly running under the 10" Texas size limit...I did cacth one good W. Perch on ahd Rapala Shad Rap,

See ya'll on the lake,

Scottie

RattlinScottie Sounds like you are having a blast :toot: Not to many folks night fishing this time of year, it's usually a lot cooler by now ::) I wouldn't worry much about that jig bite if I could catch them on a buzz bait :-* The time of year is right for the white perch to start running, the white bass also but the water temps just haven't dropped enough yet. Come the middle of Novemeber they both will be going strong for sure.

Where abouts in Big Cypress are you fishing? Above or below goverment ditch?

Hi Mike...night fishing is still going strong...not too cool untill the due starts forming...I come off the lake feeling like I've been in a light misty rain...ha....Last few days seem like from dark till about 10:30 is the best time...

I'm fishing below the gov. ditch from Johnsons ranch back toward the lake...Launching at Johnsons ranch...

I'll tell you my "hot" spots...Areas with big breaks in the moss/lilly pads that alow you to fish closer to the bank seem to be the more productive areas....

Right down from Johnsons ranch there is an old boat house on the north side of the channel...and across from there there is a cut that goes to the catfish house or something...goood area..

On down from there there is a big Cypress kinda out from the others on the north of the channel ...good spot...I lost a good one there last night...Couldn't see it but it stripped some line before it broke surface and and thru the bate.. :'(

On down and around the big turn toward the lake there is another channel that crosses Big cypress...good area also...lost two good ones there last night also....and saw about a 7' Gator there Friday night....

There is another gator...about 6' that hangs around Johnsons Ranch at night also.....They don't seem to be overly afraid of folks as many told me it came right up to the piers...lots of folks fish off the docks at Johnsons Ranch at night.....I think there is more partying that fishing...ha..

Heading back wiith my wife this afternoon.(Sunday)... should be on the lake about 3:30....If ya'll are around say howdy...I in a grey 17' Alumaweld with a 70 horse Yamaha..

See you there..

Scottie

BIG PAPA

I ran into two guys at Academy last week that said they have been catching a lot in the same area at night. One of them was named "Sherwin Williams" You have got to love that ~c~

Caddo Lake is my hotspot of choice, and I've worked for Sherwin-Williams for 25 years now.  I need to hook up with this guy.

Well....Back in a little early tonight from Caddo...Don't think my wife appreciated that gator swimming down the middle of the channel about 9:00...ha

Still had a pretty good trip and fished same areas mentioned above..Before dark I fished Slug-o's in the pads, while my wife kicked  my butt with a clear Tiny Torpedo...I think she had a limit before dark and missed a few others.......ha...

Then at night fall started fishing the buzz baits....Seemed to be slow tonight...but left a little earlier too...anyway caught 3 fish on buzzbaits....one 16.5" and 2 under..all the other fish we caught before dark were also all under the slot..

Well....one more day off Monday so I'll be on a lake somewhere... :)

BIG PAPA

Caddo is indeed fishing different in the evening!
Got to the lake about 3:00 and did not catch a fish till almost 5:00, from then till 7:00 I caught 9 Bass and a giant Bowfin, all on a swamp frog fished real slow by trees up in Bonhams arm. ( Jeems ) 5 Louisiana overs (only 1 over 18) but she was a real pretty 19 incher. Most of them came from 2 feet. Saw lots of dinks schooling, actually I caught a few of them on a minus 1 but did not count them as they were about 6-8 inches.

I really don't know, but seems the hydrilla and Lilly Pads seem to be getting much worse each year... I'm sure the  low lake levels aren't helping the situation this year at all.....

Haven't been out in the main lake all that much this year...fishing mostly  Big Cypress area...put looks like most of the west end of the lake is pretty much unfishable..

Just seem like this much hydrilla and pads would not be good for the lake...especially when it starts to rot this winter..

Just wondering ..

Scottie

BIG PAPA

I tend to agree with you Scottie, the ammount of debris left over cannot be a good thing. Caddo is a different lake this year than I have ever seen it. The grass and pads make fishing very hard, I am convinced that the majority of the Bass are in and under the grass making them very hard to get to. I did not spend much time on Caddo this summer like I used to but if the problem is as bad next year I am going to spend a lot of time learning to fish a heavy jig in the grass, there has got to be a way to get to them.
papa

Hawgwild

That may work Papa, but if it is this bad next year you may need one of those air boats to get to them....the boat roads...what is left of them...is only about wide enough for a single boat to get down..ha

A few years back I was fishing in Buzzards Bay and someone had used some sort or defoliate on the pads...there were several acres where all was left was the stems sticking out of the water where the pads were..

I friends son was on Big Cypress on Caddo down from Johnsons Ranch this past Sunday...Didn't have much luck wiith the bass and were heading in around Noon...

They had the fish alarm set on their debth finder and it went off as they motored in...Started chunking chrome/blue rattletraps and got into a mess of white bass and stripers...Brought home over 40 fish with some over 20 inches..

Sounds like a good time anyway,
Scottie

Mike Cork

Thanks for the update RattlinScottie, I guess it's getting about that time in the river on Caddo. You can have a blast catching those big whites :-*

Mike Cork

Our tournament a couple weeks ago is the latest I have, it was a very tough day. Lots of fish caught on frogs over the grass. My fish came slow rolling a spinner bait on the edges of it on the main lake

Railroader

will see, guess i will be going tomorrow. not sure where?

mmberry72

Hey Railroader...

Can you put in at Johnson's Ranch or Caddo Lake state park?   I had heard that
with the lake being so low...you could not put your boat in at Shady Glade...which
is where I normally put in to fish the river.

Ranger Boats aren't Skeeter-ed, Nitro-ed or
                       Triton-ed!!!

Hawgwild

mmberry72....I was putting in at Johnsons Ranch with no problems last time I went there a little over 2 weeks ago......Some frends put in at Johnsons Ranch this past Sunday and didn't mention any problems either....

The White bass are running pretty good now also..

Scottie

Hawgwild

I stopped by Bacon's Tackle after work today and got to talking about the white bass some friends caught....Anyway.....He was getting many reports of good catches using anywhere from minnows, jigging spoons, and rooster tails....

I'd keep a chrome/blue rattletrap handy too..

I was planning on hitting the Red this Saturday but may have to re-think that..  :)

Scottie

Railroader

did you happen to here if they are being caught around johnsons? cause  if so i have a spot further up river,i might have to go check it tomorrow..

Hawgwild

Railroader....The guy at bacons didn't mention exact locations other than the fact it was on Big Cypress..

My other friends that caught the fish Sunday launched out of Johnsons and were going in when they got on the fish but no exact locations given...I'll try to get more detail at to location at work tomorrow...

BTW: The guy at Bacon's also sends in some of the fishing reports that come out in the Times sports section on Friday.....I got to read his report yesterday.....so you may want to have some watermellow-red Baby Brush Hogs if your going to the Red anytime soon..  :)

Scottie

Hawgwild

Didn't get an exact location on where the White Bass were bitting other than somewhere on Big Cypress and not too far from Johnsons...This co-workers son actually was the one that caught the fish along with others in the boat, and was in the woods all day today so couldn't contact him..

So...finally the weekend is here and got a Saturday off...

Probably see ya'll at the lake (or river),,
Scottie
