My friend called me last night around 9:00pm he fished the north caddo football tourny on caddo, and he won it again.. ~c~ i think thats 4 in a row now, its a three fish limit and he weighed in two fish for a total of 11.55.. :o  :o yep he had 1 under and 1 over so you can guess just how big the over was? it was 10.46lb the tourny started at 5pm and he caught it at 5:20 man what a feeling to know you have  a ten pounder in you livewell. i would have just went on back to the launch.. he said 2nd place had just 1 under. it will be in the paper this sunday or the next.. his name is Nick lebrun..so im pumped about this sunday hope we have a good turn out..

A cold front is going to hit Tomorrow that is going to drop the temps 30 degrees overnight, wonder how that is going to effect the bite. :surrender: I suspect the bite is going to be tough.

I fished caddo wednesday up on big cypress just looking for some under keepers and i found a few on a c-rig on a flat. caught one slot and a catfish. so if ya need some under keepers ya might try up there? just a thought.

I was out Yesterday and didn't do very good, fished from daylight till about 1:30 caught two slot fish out in the pads in the texas side of the lake on a horny toad but that was it there. Then went up in the river and caught a dink on the horny toad again. 3 bites three fish that was it for me. The wind dies and the blue bird skies didn't help non.

Tuff bite for me too..

Finally got to go Saturday evening and gave it up about 10:30 PM...

Caught a couple of small ones swimming a tube jig in the pads before dark then that was it..

I fished a buzz bait in the same areas I had been doing well on a few weeks back. Only got a couple of strikes but none took the bait..

Probably should have slowed down and fisn a worm in a couple of holes as I was hearing some activity...

Due to no moon it was difficult to judge where the bank, pads, and moss line was.....so my casting wasn't as accurate as I would have liked..

I was fishing Big Cypress from Johnsons Ranch landing back toward the lake..

Talked to others on the lake and they didn't have reports of many fish either..

I guess the bass will pick up once they get use to all this cold weather...ha

It was a pleasant evening anyway..  :)

Fished the TCTC tournament today and got 3rd place with 2.44 lbs. That should tell you it was pretty slow for most of us. The water was 79 and clear above government ditch where we caught our 2 unders. Tryed about everything but the pattern I found was to swim a white twin tail grub over the grass then drop it right off the front of the grass line. Did catch one on a frog first thing in the pads but that was it for the pads. Had a good time exploring the lake and caught a good size bullfrog on a 10 1/2'' worm.  lo

Take a kid fishing, the smiles are priceless!!!

I fished Caddo in the TCTC and did BETTER than I expected...I had ONE weigh fish, an under, and one slot.  The under came on a chartruese/white spinnerbait near pads and grass, and the slot came on an 11 inch black neon worm on a cypress tree.

I still think that area would be a great golf course.  lo

Trey and I actually had a decent day even though you can't tell by our weight.
We caught 8 Bass early on a spittin image ( 3 slots and 5 dinks) unless you count the 6 Jackfish that Trey caught :( We did not have a keeper till our 9th fish and Trey caught him at 1:00 on a Ribbit and then another at 2:30 so with a total of 11 bass we managed to weigh 2.10lbs  :'(

My partner & I went fishing with the TCTC also...That is about all I can say about it!  lo

We caught 2 slots on a brown/orange spinnerbait. Threw every other color I had with no bites. Tried plastics on trees, ribbits in pads, C-rig by the trestle...every color combo imaginable...NO LUCK!  :-\

BassBUFF

Kingfish and I fished the TCTC yesterday, no weigh fish. We finally caught some slots near the Twin Islands. Kingfish got his on a black/blue fleck Ole Monster, mine came from a black/blue trailer jig and a horny toad. I only got two, missed three. Kingfish got 4 or 5 (lost count, loooong day!)

Mike Cork

Laurie and I fished the same TCTC tournament. Only caught abuot 5, one over that went just over 4 pounds and one 13.5 incher. The bite was very tough. Just couldn't get it going. The fish we did catch were all on spinnerbaits. Tried worms jigs buzz baits top water only other thing we caugh a fish on was a horny toad in the pads. It was fun but it was a single fish, she knocked it off of a pad and then reattacked it. Wish I could have got that pattern going it was fun.

Bass Buff, what are you calling twin islands? I am not familar with that name on Caddo :-\

Hi everybody!  This is my first post here but I am glad to see such an active board.  I recently moved from Ferriday, LA (where I fished lakes Concordia and St. John) to Vivian, LA.  I would like to know where I can launch my boat.  I have a 14 foot jon boat with a 9.5 horsepower outboard so my range is limited and I would like to avoid large open water landings where the wind could be a problem, especially on a big lake like Caddo. I a a little leary of launching at Earl Williamson park for that reason.  I would especially like to know where to launch into Jeems Bayou, though I would not be opposed to driving into Texas to launch.   As always, I am on a budget, so less expensive or public launches would be helpful.  Any help for a newbie to the area would be appreciated!

I would also appreciate any tips, or help you could give me about Caddo.  I have read through the old reports and was excited to hear about so many large bass that have been caught  by some very good fishermen.  I have already bought a map because I have heard horror stories about folks who have gotten lost on the lake.  I fish for bass some, but also enjoy fly fishing for bass, white perch (what I grew up calling sac-a-lait) and bream when the wind permits.  I tie my own flies and have built a couple of my own rods so I might be able to help with those rods that have lost an eye.  Thanks in advance for your warm welcome and help.  And I look forward to seeing you on Caddo!

Welcome Kevin.  I know some folks that fish Caddo a lot more than me will give you some good information.  Shady Acres is a boat ramp that is not on open water, but he charges $5 to launch.  There are more, I am just not aware of them.  You might PM "Papa" and get some info from him.  Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to this  super board...I'm fairly new to this board myself,  but not to Caddo....super lake for Bass, bream, and catfish..

First off let me warn you about the lake...There are old oil well pillings all over the lake, so if you are running stay on the channels..and not to far off either..It may look open on spots but the pillings are everywhere...

Also, your Louisiana liscense is good on the LA and Texas side of the lake, but the slots and limits are different between the states....so make sure the fish in your boat are legal in the side of the lake you are fishing...daily limits are different also for bass and other fish..

There are a couple of launches in Moringsport...One free between the Highway and the railroad tressel...east side of the lake...There is also a paid launch under the Hwy. 1 bridge..also east end...Think he charges $3...The free launch is not all that far even for you motor.....

I've done quite well from the Hwy. 1 bridge fishing the east bank back toward the dam and a couple of islands in the area also...Water is pretty low right now so not sure how the fishing may be on that end right now though..

You will have to check thiis, but there use to be a launch in the Jeems Bayou area you are speaking of but will be a paid launch if still there.....Just ask directions to the old "Cool Point" marina but keep on going to the end of that road...This is off the end of Ferry Lake Road in Oil City...

I guess everyone has their favorite baits, but one of my favorite go to baits on Caddo is a crawfish colored rattletrap..1/4 oz....

Best of luck.
Scottie

Thanks to all who have responded to my post!  I appreciate your help!  Learning a new lake is almost as tough as moving to a new community!

Railroader,
After you suggested Potter's point  I googled it and found this link http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/caddo/access.phtml
which lists access points to Caddo on the Texas side.  I will definently try potter's point especially since it's free!  Thanks for that suggestion!

rattlinscottie,
I put in at mooringsport once by hwy 538.  I caught a few bream but didn't do very well.  It looked like the lake is really low right now and maybe that is why I didn't catch much.  The wind came up on me and was blowing hard at the launch and it was very difficult to laed my boat up.  Thanks for sharing a spot to try with me, I'll give it a shot next time.

I really appreciate you're warm welcome and help!  Tight lines to everyone!

God Bless,
Kevin Smith

You are welcome Kevin.....

I mostly fish that end of the lake early in the year when the water is deeper...Last time I was in that area back in August I was plowing mud in the areas I normally catch fish due to very low lake levels.....and yep...had a time getting my boat loaded back up also..

I fish mostly in the Big Cypress area on Caddo now... I launch at Johnsons Ranch landing on the Texas side at Uncertain, Texas..$4 launch fee...You got deep water...about 11' or so right now ...and plenty of grass, pads, and shoreline along with some other bayou's coming into the lake in that area also...Only down side to fishing there is a larger slot and smaller daily  limit..

I have a 4 day weekend and will be there starting Thursday afternoon and several day after that, so if you happen to be in the area I'd be in a 17' Alumaweld (grey) with a 70 horse Yamaha...just say howdy..ha

Good luck,
Scottie

Flippin jigs for bass is probably my favorite method of bass fishing.....and with the cooler waters i fish that a little more...

Just wondering what colors others are using this time of year...I mostly use black/blue with Berkley power craw throughout most of the year but start going to other mixed colors in the fall...

In fall I do ok using a camo color or a sort of mixed black, pumpkin, amber with red flakes...trailed with Uncle Josh pork frog or craw in kind of a rusty red color..

Just wondering what colors others like using now..
