It's amazing how much stronger a fish can pull when it is hooked in the back or tail fin. I bet that was some heart pounding action even if it was only for a few seconds.

Can you share a little piece of the pattern puzzle with us? What did you hear at the weigh in or was everyone tight lipped?

Everyone that actually said anything said crankbaits from grass beds. I heard a couple say plastics in and around grass.
My few fish came from the same place I caught the 2 0ver 7 from tuesday, which it will surprise you to hear was a grassbed up off of the a boat row near bird Island. I was swimming a big storm swimbait just over the top of the grass. I really got fooled I thought they would move to the edge of the hump in a little deeper water or down in the grass, but I could not find them or they would not bite, although I did catch the 5.7 and 4.9 on back to back casts.

Where do the fish spawn on this lake?  I've heard that they spawn on Cypress Trees, but how do you know which ones?  On lakes like Grand Bayou and Cypress, it is easy to find spaning areas; you just look for shallow flats that are sheltered from the wind.  What kind of areas do you look for on lakes like Caddo and Bisteneau?

I got up this morning KNOWING it was gonna be a fantastic day on the lake.   ~sun

Six hours of fishing with one slot and one jack fish later, I was less than elated.  Did anyone else do much better on Caddo today?   :(

Man that sounds like a tough bite, that lake should blow wide open here pretty soon.

Country and I hit the lake this morning with the same expectations as Crustaceous.  It was his first time on the lake driving his boat, so I thought I would show him around a bit.  After fishing our first spot I put him in the lead for a quick trip, thinking that he would get more experiance if he was in front.  Well he took a wrong turn and I stopped, thinking he would turn around but he never even looked back.  We spent the better part of an hour and a half looking fo each other.  He got lost and I left my cell phone in the truck, so it was a comedy of errors this morning.  We finally caught back up around noon and Country had one slot, and one barely over.  We headed up Jeem's but didn't get a bite.  We left around 2.  The good thing is that Country said he is no longer afraid of driving his boat on Caddo anymore since he got so much practice today!

Water temp was 55-57 degrees.

Fished Caddo today in the ABA and finished 5Th (got a nice check) with 63 boats and 71 fishermen. and was 2 one hundredths from 2ND big Bass.
Had one of the 7 college boys with me (CAST) members is what they call them. He placed 1st and had big Bass out of the college boys with a 4.7 and 4.5. In fact he was the only on of them to weigh a fish.
Had a funny thing happen, he actually knocked a 5-6 lb. Bass off of my rattletrap by being over anxious to get her in the net. Good kid and a good fisherman though, so I did not say anything although it probably cost me about 300.00. I had 11.03 with a 6.03 and a 5.00 and second was only 14.28. Caught 7 slot fish between us and no unders. All our fish came on a rattle Trap from a grass bed up around Tuckers, water was stained and about 60 degrees.

Dave I will give you all the info I have on Caddo, but you already know that.
I don't fish the river because I do not like not being able to fish so many places because of the floating crap, and of course the stickups drive me nuts. You can look at my boat and see I go places I should not go but do anyway. I just get frustrated on the river because I stay hung up on stumps all day. :'(

Went and fought hurricane Caddo today from 7-2.  Fished from 1 to 14 ft deep and through just about everything in the pantry at them.  However, I only caught 1 the whole day......a 2-3 lb Goo on a Carolina Rig.  Had fun exploring new territory, ate a good burger at Caddo Grocery, and had good company.  Anyway, talked to 30+ people on the lake.  The most I heard caught was 1 little one right at daylight.  Mainly fished the Texas end of the lake.  Hope that others had better luck than us.

Dusty and i fished Jeems lake today with a little more luck than those on Caddo ;D
We caught about 25-30 small fish, biggest about 3lbs up in wildcat creek on chart. spinnerbaits. Water temp. was 62-66 and it was very off color with just a little current. water in there averages only about 3 ft. and it is real grassy.
Saw several beds with 1 having a male and female on it (well at least there were 2 fish) Went up in Bonharms are and saw several places where bucks were running stuff off but wind was so bad we could not see the beds.

Fished Oddac today with my brother & cousin, only catching one.  It was a nice chunk, probably 4-5 pounds.  My brother caught it off the main river with a Watermelon Lizard.  Beautiful fish, windy day.

Here are a couple of pictures...

Fished Caddo today from 6:15 till 2:30 in our church club tournament.  We caught 3 bass (1 over ~2.5 lbs and 2 13 3/4 inchers) and took first place.  It was a tough bite for us again, as we only got three bass bites.  Caught 3 jacks and 1 4-5 lb grennal.  Pattern seemed to be 4-6 ft by cypress trees.  All three were caught on Texas Rigs.  The over came out of Tar Island Slough area on a 10" Blue Fleck Berkley Power Bait worm.  I also caught one of the unders on this in the Ames Basin area.  Last fish came out of Jeems on a black/blue tail lizard.  All jacks came on spinnerbait fished over grass.  I just can't seem to figure out Caddo this year compared to year's past.

Mike Cork

Hang in there Trey, it really has been fairly tough for eveyone. besides look at you complain and you won ~c~ ~c~ ~c~

Caddo will open wide up here shortly, the trick is to be there when it happens :-*
